Ruby Lance is found inside the home she shares with her boyfriend Scotty Latimer. The latter is nowhere to be seen, but the blonde is sat all comfy on the couch in the living room. She has her barefeet tucked under her, dressed in a pair of cute pink donut-themed pajama pants along with a white Midnight Horsemen tank. Her phone is her hand and something on the screen has her full attention. The subject matter probably shouldn't have her attention given the fact that it's causing a look of distress on the usually happy-go-lucky expression that Ruby often exhibits.
Behind the couch Scotty Latimer crawls up to her holding his Cyclops action figure. He slowly raises it up to her shoulder from behind and sits it on her. Ruby turns her head towards the toy.
“Ma'am, may the X-Men and myself be of assistance?”
She smiles at his silliness and shakes her head. It's a short-lived moment before she looks back to the phone and her mood takes another hit. So she hits the button to darken the display and lays her phone on the couch. When she looks back at Scotty, she tries her hardest to look bright and cheery, but it's not there.
"Nothing for the X-Men today, but I appreciate the offer."
Scotty did notice something on her phone she was looking at was troubling her.
“You okay?”
He hops over the back of the couch into the cushion next to her.
"Yeah. I’m good, sweetie. It’s just… silly, really.”
She picks her phone back up and wakes the display up to show him the stuffed unicorn with her name and the Midnight Horsemen logo.
“That is like insanely adorable...who had those made? I wasn't aware that those were in production.”
"I'd like to know that myself."
She sounds less excited about it than Scotty does, though there's no denying how adorable they are. Have you seen that monkey? So cuddly!
"I mean, I guess I don't make it obvious…"
That would be when she glances down at her tank top that happens to bear the same logo as the one her unicorn is wearing. She sighs and shakes her head.
"I'm not a part of the Midnight Horsemen, Scotty. You know that. I'm not… it's not that I'm not flattered by whoever did this or… I'm not mad about it. It's just confusing. For me and other people."
Ruby takes a deep breath and she sets her phone aside again.
"I like everyone in the Midnight Horsemen. Alan, of course. Jacob and I are champions together. I mean, that wasn't my decision or his but we made the best of it. I would have done the same even if he wasn't part of the Horsemen. Billy's been nice enough. Even Coral's made the effort. Obviously Mason and I are friends. Then there's you…"
She looks up at her boyfriend, watching her ramble on with concern for what's bothering her.
"Regardless of all of that, the Horsemen have a reputation. You guys handle things and react to things in a way that I… just don't. And to be lumped in with that kind of mob mentality… I've been questioned more than once as to whether or not I'm in the group. I've made it clear that I'm not. But then this… after Jacob and I win the titles together… with me and you together the way we are… I'm not sure if people even see me anymore."
Scotty listens to her concerns and understands where she is coming from. Ruby Lance is what is pure about pro wrestling. She does things the right way...represents the sport the real way it should. The Midnight Horsemen….eehh...have had their moments of being devious and rule breakers. Talented….yes….but still they have a negative look upon them from many in the community. He touches her chin and gently tilts her face towards him. Her beautiful eyes look into his.
“All I know is this….people still see you. There are as many...hell...more Ruby Lance shirts in that crowd than Horsemen shirts. Everyone in this business thinks the world of you. And you can walk into a room of people and whether you realize it or not you…..
He touches her cheek to help her understand.
“You….become the focal point of everyone. You are that special. So get that out of your head that no one sees you anymore baby. “
Scotty leans back and now he has a concerned look on his face...like some thoughts and feelings that he has been keeping deep inside of himself have came up from the depths of his mind finally….and they weren't going back to the darkness.
"You're being biased again."
Ruby turns sideways on the couch to face him and leans onto the back of the couch. She watches his expression change and after a moment of seeing in his eyes that whatever was troubling him wasn't resolving itself, she reaches out and brushes her fingers through his hair.
"What are you thinking about?"
Scotty looks at her…
“Just….I don't think anyone really respects what I have done because I'm a Horseman. Do people look at me as someone that can't get anything done myself?”
Scotty looks at Ruby. He knew she probably didn't have the answer. But he had to ask someone. She frowns and just continues to run her fingers through his hair. She takes a deep breath but she doesn't have the answer for him, even though she wishes she did.
“Honestly...I think I already know the answer….”
He strokes her cheek and smiles at her. She looks down at him for a long moment and then leans in to press her lips against his forehead.
"You are who you are by virtue of the company you keep. I guess we both need to keep that in mind."
She tries for a smile as she runs her fingers through his hair once more, but the smile never quite becomes ones. Letting out a sigh, she picks up her phone and gets up off the couch to head upstairs, leaving Scotty behind to think on that.
