-A few days before Thanksgiving-
Joshua Goldstein sits in his office and sighs to himself as he looks at the costume design he had sketched. He sighs and throws it away. He was doing his best to get his head together before Thanksgiving when the Goldstein and Kassie families would be under one roof for the first time but he was having trouble bringing the two seemingly disparate halves of himself together. His desk was littered with comic books. Looking for answers in the ink and paper Gods that had saved him before and finding nothing. He didn't even know his fiancé was home. Kaylee had just returned from some early morning shopping. Fresh Apple Pie was her family's favorite, and Kaylee was determined to make it from scratch. Fresh apples, and all. She sets the groceries on the counter as she yells out.
Kaylee; Joshie? You home?
Josh makes a grunting noise as he realizes Kaylee is home before he looks at his watch. He'd stayed up all night and well into morning. He exits his office and goes to the kitchen in his pajamas with bags under his eyes.
Josh: Good morning, Kaykay.
A small dog yaps.
Josh: And good morning to you too Phorry, sorry I fell asleep in my office last night.
Phorry growls. Both of the women in Josh's life could tell when he was lying.
Kaylee: Josh. You are the worst liar. You know that? As bad as Ronnie trying to work a normal nine to five.
Phorry barks in agreement.
Kaylee: Still fighting this whole superhero thing again?
She reaches out for his arms to wrap around her. Josh leans in and hugs Kaylee tightly like he always does.
Josh: I cheated, Kaylee. I cheated in a match against someone I've been friendly with in the past and I don't even know why I did it. I look in the mirror and I don't even know who I am anymore.
Josh had been hiding the truth behind dropping the superhero thing for a while. Finally it just fell out of him.
Josh: Mort is claiming the Jew Blazer was his creation and was threatening to sue me.
Mort Goldstein. His estranged father who reappeared back in his life a few months ago who Josh was trying to make amends with despite the warnings of his mother Martha and Kaylee. Kaylee looked concerned.
Kaylee: You know that you, Joshua, are what makes the Blazer a Superhero. Right? It does not make you anything.
She points to his heart.
Kaylee: That. That is why everyone loves Blazer. Not some cape. Or nut hugging spandex.
She smiles.
Kaylee: But who you are on the inside.
Josh sighs and buries his face in Kaylee's neck.
Josh: The Spandex and the cape sell more merchandise though.
Josh chuckles at his own joke before pulling away. He kisses Kaylee on the forehead.
Josh: So your family and mine AND Ronnie under one roof. Nervous yet?
Kaylee: You are not getting away with that, mister. If there were no Josh, than no Blazer. And then no merch. So no, YOU sell the merchandise. And I can pull a few strings with Devlin if you really want to push the merch button.
Josh: No I uh... I made a decision last night. I'm gonna... I think I'm gonna fight Mort.
Josh thinks over his words.
Josh: In court, I mean. I'm not gonna like...literally try and beat up my Dad. That's more of a Johnny thing.
Kaylee laughs.
Kaylee: Is that... what you want? I support you fully, you know that.
She looks into his eyes.
Kaylee: And the whole cheating thing. That is more my style anyways. You should apologize to that anime nerd probably.
Kaylee rolls her eyes. She and Jessica both wrestled in Indy Pro together.
Josh: I don't think being Josh or The Blazer is what I need right now. I think...I can be both.
Josh looks back into her eyes and smiles.
Josh: Also, If you're gonna diss someone for being a nerd I have some terrible news about the skinny dude you're engaged to...
She nods, knowing he would pick up on that one.
Kaylee: Both? The Jew Joshie? The Goldstein Blazer?
Josh: I uh...was thinking something more like 'The Jew Blazer' Josh Goldstein. But I think I can be sold on 'The Goldstein Blazer.'
Phorry growls at the suggestion of 'The Goldstein Blazer'
Kaylee: Combining the hero and the man. I love it.
She leans into him and kisses him.
Kaylee: And I love you.
Phorry barks.
Kaylee: I love you too, Phorry!
Josh: I love you too... but seriously, how bad are you freaking out about Thanksgiving? If you have any hot sisters or cousins coming with Ronnie here this could be a fiasco and I'm so excited.
Josh tauntingly and teasingly pokes her in the ribs.
She smiles.
Kaylee: Just mom and dad. Ronnie will have to try to keep his eyes off of my mom. But oh my god is she going to love the attention from him.
Josh laughs.
Josh: He's at the very least learned his lesson with my sister Meryl... oh man if she's here we could have a REAL fiasco on our hands.
Hooking up with Josh's sister is how Ronnie hurt his back.
Kaylee: I am just going to go ahead and move further. You know... we have not officially set a date yet...
Josh: You're right. All our family is coming. Let's do it tomorrow.
Josh was only half joking.
Kaylee: No, Joshie. I want a real wedding. I mean... I could stop.. you know... if I had to...
Josh: Stop what? Cooking? Trying to start a mariachi band? What would Miguel think? Poor Miguel. Slaving away to be the best vihuela player in all of Madrid and for what? For you to back out? POR QUE, KAYLEE? POR QUE?
There is a pause.
Josh: Sorry. I did that crazy tangent thing again. I'm really sleep-deprived.
She leans forward and kisses his neck softly.
Kaylee: You better get yourself together or that? And what else comes with that.... well..
Josh audibly whimpers.
Josh: I need you to trust that I have something in mind. Okay? I don't take US lightly.
Josh strokes Kaylee's cheek.
Kaylee: Good. And whatever you do I have your back. I just want you to be happy.
Josh: Same to you, Kay Kay. But I have an important question first.
Josh runs to his office and runs back out in a sparkly jacket with a 'JG' logo on the front. He turns around to show the huge glittery menorah on the back.
Josh: Is this too much?
Kaylee: In life? Yes. For you? No. It's perfect.
She loved it, and was glad he was feeling more himself.
Kaylee: You are going to get some sleep now, right?
She starts to push him backwards towards the bedroom.
Josh: Okay but wake me up by noon so I can help you cook, promise?
Josh fights the pushing to pout, not wanting her to over work herself getting ready for Thanksgiving.
Kaylee: One o clock. No earlier. Bed!
Phorry barks as if she is backing him up as well.
Josh: Mkay. Love you, Kay-Kay.
She leans into him and kisses him, before shoving him back through the doorway.
Kaylee: Love you too, Joshie.
Within moments she hears snoring. Kaylee returns back to the kitchen as she puts on some music, dancing to it as she begins to get a plan of attack for the cooking.
