“20 Questions”
Date: November 18, 2017
GCW Global Champion Jazmyn Rain just got out of her car as she heads toward the entrance of the Sacramento hotel that she’s staying at. Wearing the same purple outfit she was during GCW’s Livewire event that night, Jazmyn is merely looking forward to relaxing and falling asleep after a rather eventful show. Having not wrestled that night, her purse is the only thing she’s carrying as she walks into the hotel. Jazmyn takes a small pause and a deep breath relieving herself a bit of some stress. She’s not paying too much attention to her surroundings considering she just wants to get back to her room, but that’s about to cost her as her best friend from her college days, Camryn Rourke, is about to catch up to her.
Camryn: Jaz!!!
Jazmyn nearly looked like she was going to jump, as she’s obviously startled by her sudden presence.
Jazmyn: Oh! Hey! Um… you have a camera…
Camryn doesn’t react to Jazmyn’s revelation.
Camryn: I do…
Jazmyn: Is it on?
Camryn: Maybe…
Jazmyn: Cammie…
Camryn: Jaz, I just want to have fun. I mean, the last time you were Global Champion, we were estranged and all and we haven’t had any fun together in years. Remember how back in college we’d document our lives with “20 Questions” every now and then? Come on Jaz… throwback? Just because you’re Global Champion again doesn’t mean you have to change and be all moody and everything. Remember, you define that title. The title doesn’t define you.
Jazmyn: Okay, fine…
Jazmyn takes a brief pause to laugh.
Jazmyn: But I do want to get to my room as soon as possible so you don’t mind doing this on the run, do you?
Camryn: Not at all!
Jazmyn smiles as the two of them begin to walk through the lobby.
Camryn: So, first thing’s first… how does it feel to finally be GCW Global Champion again?
Jazmyn: Honestly? It’s the greatest feeling in the world. How could it not be when you consider that when it got taken from me in St. Louis 20 months ago, it was, as far as my professional wrestling career is concerned, one of the worst feelings in the world I’ve ever had? But, I’m not going to focus on that so much. What’s important is that through hell and high water, I grew and prospered as a person and a wrestler for those twenty months to become as strong as I am today to make this all possible and the journey was by far one of the most insane roller coasters I’ve ever been on. I’m not rambling too much am I?
Jazmyn looks toward the camera, understandably looking a little nervous.
Camryn: Don’t worry. You’re fine. Those were indeed a crazy twenty months. I admit, watching it all unfold and then in the last few months, being a little more directly involved was something else. Do you wish it took you sooner than it did for you to get the title back?
Jazmyn: It wouldn’t be fair to me, my family, my friends or my fans, to wish for such a thing. Things went the way they were meant to be all along. It was meant for this journey to be 20 months. If it was meant to last five, or 10, then I would have won it back within five or ten. I wouldn’t trade anything about the journey.
Camryn: You’re clearly popular with the fans, and quite a selection of people in both companies that you work for. But, you’ve had your critics too, past and present. One of them was your direct predecessor as the Global Champion in Aphrodite Noel. She just left GCW, any thoughts on that?
The two pause their walk in the vicinity of a long hallway. Jazmyn turns toward the camera again trying to figure out how to answer the question before she smiles and does so.
Jazmyn: I wish her the best.
She turns around again and the pair make their way down the hallway.
Camryn: It must be very difficult for you sometimes to deal with such harsh words like you’ve heard throughout your career, right?
Jazmyn: Oh definitely, especially at the start but I’ve learned how to deal with it better. Granted, enemies trying to make every excuse possible to turn you into the bad guy is pretty darn grating, but knowing I have the power to prove them wrong makes dealing with such criticisms and harsh words much easier to deal with.
Camryn: Who in GCW and NGW do you NOT have a one on one win against but you wish you did?
Jazmyn: In GCW, that would be Timothy Myers who I have rarely ever faced in the ring, and in NGW that would clearly be Trixie who I didn’t get a chance to face at Convergence a while back.
Camryn: Funny you mention that. That’s next right? Trixie? NGW Resurgence?
Jazmyn: Yep! Eight days from now in Atlanta to determine a number one contender for the Five Lakes Championship and I know this time around, there’s nothing that is going to prevent our match from happening just the way it should be.
Camryn: Do you see her as a friend or a foe?
Jazmyn is heard chuckling a bit as they both get to an elevator. She presses the button and the two wait for it. In the meantime, Jazmyn responds to the question, again, turning toward the camera.
Jazmyn: Hmm… that’s kind of tough. I don’t dislike her though her ‘kill or be killed’ attitude isn’t exactly my cup of tea. We teamed well together once, but there’s always some kind of competitive wedge sort of vibe that prevents me from saying we could be friends. In that ring, the answer is definitely “foe”. Of course, I don’t want to say too much. I don’t want to give away what’s on my mind going into that match you know?
Camryn: Which wrestler that you’ve met do you wish you could work with in a greater capacity?
Jazmyn: That’s easy! Xaria Karloff! We only met in passing, but we’re sort of like kindred spirits in a way. It’s no coincidence that both of us have this whole “angel” thing going on and who knows, maybe we could be a team some day. Never say never. Though, what would we call our team? The “Rainbow Guardians”? Or how about the “Rainbow Guardian Angels”? “Guardian Rainbow Angels”? I don’t know. What do you think?
Camryn: Hey! I’m the one that’s supposed to be asking the questions.
Jazmyn: But every opinion counts, you know?
Camryn: Fine! Fine! I think “Rainbow Guardians” sounds like the best one.
Jazmyn: Thanks! But yeah, I want to get to know her more. She sounds like an amazing person!
Jazmyn and Camryn are then interrupted by the “ding” of the elevator and the elevator itself opening. Conveniently, the elevator is completely empty. Both of them enter and Jazmyn presses the “4” button to indicate her room being on the fourth floor.
Camryn: And which wrestler that you’ve met and worked with before do you wish to never work with again?
Jazmyn sighs.
Jazmyn: Cammie, really?
Camryn: What?
Jazmyn: You know I’m not all about that.
Camryn: But you’ve dealt with so many morons and critics in your wrestling career.
Jazmyn: Yeah, but I’m not going to answer that question. It’s not right to put down someone, even if I may not like the person that I would probably answer the question with their name. Let’s skip it, okay?
Camryn: Alright, fine.
Jazmyn: I didn’t get through the journey by being so mean-spirited. Otherwise, I’d be no better than a lot of my critics past and present.
Camryn: Speaking of, you had yourself a rough, rock bottom stretch after you had the Global Championship robbed from you in the first place. What was the worst part of that whole stretch?
Jazmyn: That’s dark…
Jazmyn winces a bit, briefly reflecting back to that harsh, albeit brief, stretch of her career.
Camryn: I know.
Jazmyn: Being ambushed and stun gunned on live television was one thing, but Blake Mason, who was a GCW shareholder at the time, publicly going on Twitter and saying “I’m glad Jazmyn Rain is no longer Global Champion” absolutely sucked. My heart was already shattered at that time, but there had to be that ONE extra punch in the gut on top of it. That’s all I’ll say on the matter, it’s long over and I managed to pull through.
Camryn: I’m personally glad that’s all behind you and that you’ve got the championship back. Are there any goals in particular you have in mind for 2018?
Jazmyn: Well, there’s a certain NGW Five Lakes Championship that I want to win, and I’m going to make it a goal to leave the next Resurrection in GCW as the Global Champion one way or another. Ridding NGW of the Destroyers is also on the list. And hey, you never know. Maybe I win another world title down the line in NGW also. It’s going to be one exciting year that we’re never going to forget.
Another ding is heard as the elevator reaches the fourth floor and opens its doors. Jazmyn and Camryn exit the elevator and start walking down the hallway leading toward Jazmyn’s room.
Camryn: You’ve got a loving, passionate fan base behind you. Where’s the most fun crowd you’ve ever competed in?
Jazmyn: Gosh, every crowd I compete in front if is a joy. But I’ll be darned if I didn’t lump in every arena in the South as the most wild and fun of them all. Whether it’s Nashville, Charlotte, New Orleans, Atlanta… everywhere I go in the South, that energy is ramped up another level. The love and reverence is so high that there was one fan that was all “You’re the Shania Twain of professional wrestling” and I’m like “What? I don’t sing!” and the fan responds “Someday you’re gonna be iconic in wrestling the way she is in music” and I’m all “Thanks… um… awkward”.
Camryn: It’s fitting considering Shania is the only country you listen to.
Jazmyn: True but… gosh, I wouldn’t go around calling myself that though it’s flattering. I’d have to win another world title or two to live up to that.
Camryn: Do you think you have another world championship win or two in you?
Jazmyn: Of course! Funny thing, when I had a moment to myself with the title after I won it down in L.A., I had this extremely positive aura letting me know that this isn’t going to be my last World Championship. With the journey I’ve been on, there’s nothing in the world that can tell me otherwise. I can see it, but obviously, I’m going to relish every moment I have with the championship I have now.
Camryn: Is the NGW Championship something you have in mind at some point?
Jazmyn: Definitely. My time is definitely going to come in regards to that and I know I have every ounce of ability in the world to make it all possible. Right now though, I’m taking things one step at a time and I’m focusing on the Five Lakes Championship first. I win that title and I have the best reign I can have with it, then we can talk about that title. For now, I’m keeping my priorities in order as I rise up the ranks to win that title from either Goldstein or Tillman.
Camryn: Are you rooting for Goldstein or Tillman to win that Five Lakes Championship match at Resurgence?
There’s a brief awkward pause, not just because the pair just arrived at the door of her hotel room, but because Camryn hit a touchy point knowing the sensitive history between Jazmyn and Joshua Goldstein as of late.
Jazmyn: Goldstein.
Jazmyn briefly pauses to unlock her room, allowing both of them to walk inside.
Jazmyn: I know Tillman would be more direct revenge considering what he did to me at Convergence, but I don’t want that snivelling scoundrel anywhere near that title. I know I can get my personal revenge on him even without taking the title from him.
Jazmyn sets down her purse in front of the mirror.
Camryn: You’ve been exuding so much confidence in NGW lately. What was it that triggered such a flood of positive energy to have that kind of confidence in yourself?
She turns toward the camera, answering the question with a smile.
Jazmyn: Ironically, it was what happened at Convergence that made the wheels spin. Getting a win over Ruby Lance was my statement that I wasn’t going to have jitters in an NGW ring anymore and I’ve carried over my confidence from GCW to NGW
Camryn: So where’s your next stop going to be when you leave Sacramento?
Jazmyn: St. Louis. I’ve got some old ghosts to finally put to rest with the Global title in my possession again.
Jazmyn takes off her high heels and walks toward the closet area to put them away while she hears the next question.
Camryn: Do you feel like you’re a star in this business now that you have two World championships to your names, in defiance of so many critics who thought you weren’t good enough or that didn’t deserve to even win one?
Jazmyn: That’s something for the fans to decide. My dad and my stepmother taught me better than to go around telling the world such a thing.
Jazmyn walks back toward the camera, sitting on her bed.
Camryn: Still, do you feel like you’re in the prime of your career at this point?
Jazmyn: I’ll say that and on top of that, I’ll even say that the golden years of my career are only just beginning too.
Camryn: One last thing… can I go to St. Louis with you?
Jazmyn smiles and laughs.
Jazmyn: Of course!
Camryn shuts off the camera.
Jazmyn: That was 20, right?
Camryn: Yeah, it was. That was some great stuff though, really. You’re a pretty good sport for dealing with those tougher questions.
Camryn sets the camera down next to Jazmyn’s purse and then walks back to the bed to sit down next to her.
Camryn: You’ve really come a long way and I’m very glad I didn’t miss this moment. Congratulations on all of it!
Jazmyn: Thank you!
The two exchange a quick hug.
Jazmyn: Next stops? St. Louis and Atlanta!
The two continue their conversation and for Jazmyn herself, she finally gets to take a breather from all the buzz surrounding her recent Global Championship victory.
