Home.
New Orleans had been home. Much about the city had an air of history and mystery. So here I was on this Thanksgiving, alone and walking the relatively empty streets around my house. I was awaiting someone. He knew not to keep me waiting either. I put my hands in my pockets and started heading back toward my house when I heard the sound of motorbikes.
Perfect, his MO right out in front of me. Lucky I came prepared.
I turned around to see four bikes, two on each side of this black car. He better have her or else. The bikes stopped in front of the car and when the car stopped, the door immediately opened. She ran out and to me fast.
Isabella.
Tiami would be proud. She had a few scrapes, a cut above her eye...but nothing too bad as far as I could tell.
"Auntie Mack!"
"Hey there Red!"
I grabbed her, hugging her tightly. This girl did not need to know what I was about to pay for her freedom. I smiled at her softly, looking her over for any other signs of physical trauma. None that I could tell.
"You know where my house is?"
She nodded quietly.
"You run there. Don't look back Red, you run. Auntie Dazi is there to get you home to your mom. She will be thankful to see you, sweetie."
I kissed the top of her head.
"Will Erik be there?"
"You know it. He and your mom have been wanting to rip people apart to find you. I told them not to worry, that I would get you home safely. Now run, get to Dazi and no looking back promise?"
She nodded and took off. I swear that girl is fast as ever cause it wasn't long before she disappeared and rounded the corner to my house. I then looked at the car as the door opened again. This time, he stood there. I could only think of one word for this bastard.
Fraud.
I grit my teeth at his smug expression. I was told not to kill him, just gain his trust. I drive a hard bargain and I didn't know what the reason behind her capture was. I took a few steps forward, but there they were, blades and barrels pointing directly at my chest. Hard bargain hm?
"You ever think I had no other motives? That what I said back in October changed?"
He looked at me, no words. I grit my teeth one more time.
"If you don't trust me Daniel, I can turn and head back to the house. Your bargain chip is gone now though. Dazi probably is on the way to the airport. You got sloppy son, you never get this sloppy unless you wanted to be found."
He walked up to me, a rather fast pace and stood there staring at me for a moment. He just eyed me up and down. He then raised his hand and I never flinched as it came directly across my face. I never moved, I never budged, fuck I never reached for my own concealed blades. I just stood there. Gain his trust, it was all in my mind at the moment and that is exactly what this was.
A test of my loyalty.
I was willing to walk a mile for that teenage girl I just saved and her mom. I also knew that the price would be hefty, so as I stood there with blood running from my lip I watched the smug smirk on his face grow.
"Weapons down children. Makelah would have already had me dead by the time the first shots were fired."
He took my hand, placing a gentle kiss on it. As much as the inside of me flinched, the outside of me was cold. Ice cold.
"A child. Daniel, you have gotten very sloppy. What were you planning on doing if your sister didn't come home? Kill Isa?"
"You think my thoughts as if you already read the book. Yes, those were my plans. I want my sister feeling anguish and pain."
It took every fibre of my being not to punch him with armed men beside me. However, I did raise a fist and punch him in the arm.
"God damn man, next time think shit through."
It is not my place to become judge, jury and executioner. That would happen soon enough.
"Welcome home my dear. Nice to see that the Black Rose has come to her senses."
"We will be setting a few ground rules right now. First off, you may be the leader of this ragtag misfit band of thugs, but if shit ever gets messy like that again? I will not hesitate to start putting bodies in the ground myself. Second, NEVER get a child involved in your personal affairs like that again. You will be the one with your body in the ground if that happens again. Your personal shit you settle in a ring or however you do, but no innocents."
"The first one will never happen again. The second one? I can not be sure of..."
I never let him finish. I whipped a pocket knife out and held it at his throat as I heard the clicking behind me. I didn't care. I will die a thousand deaths before ever letting harm come to that child again. He smirked again as my look was one of rage.
"Try me boy. I was about to be the leader of the Dealers until Mario stuck you in charge. Now this group that was a fighter for justice has turned into a cult. You wanted my trust, you have it. Betray me a third time? I will see to it that you are the first in a long line to rot in hell with no way out."
His expression changed. He was....scared. Like he knew what I was capable of...and he trained me to be this deadly.
"I am giving the ultimate sacrifice. I am back in your clutches. To do with as you intend to. However, do not make the same mistake of me being a weak fool. For that? IT will be your undoing. Now, take me back to the house and let us get to work."
I then walked over and got in the car. As he was giving orders, I wiped a tear from my face and kissed the necklace on my neck.
"Mom, be with me."
He then got in the car as the bikes took off. For a moment we sat in silence.
"Home."
It was all that was said, and thus my new life began...
