“Kill It With FIRE”
Date: November 3, 2017
Ally: God, she’s so out of it, isn’t she?
Ally expresses her concerns to Christy inside of their hotel room while WCG West Coast Champion Julianna DiMaria merely sits on the bed staring with an empty glaze across a television set taking in a cheap SyFy movie.
Christy: Yeah…
Christy sighs.
Christy: She’s taking this “six and six” thing pretty hard.
Julianna: You know I can hear you, right?
Ally: Julianna, seriously. It’s not that big of a deal. Come on…
Christy: I know your win loss record isn’t what you want it to be, but that doesn’t mean it’s the worst year of your life. There’s no need to exaggerate.
Ally: Yeah! Maybe it’s a good idea to take in some perspective or something, you know?
Julianna: Perspective? What perspective? The fact that I wrestle with “anger and hatred” in my heart?
Julianna still isn’t looking at the pair as she continues on.
Julianna: I have no idea where in the world my mother would come up with some garbage like that. It’s not even true.
Christy and Ally decide to walk to another side of the bed to the point where they are standing in front of her and blocking her view of the television screen.
Julianna: Really…
Ally: We do need to talk…
Julianna: It’s not true… it CAN’T be true. I can’t be losing because of some imaginary “hatred and anger” that my mother described. Like I needed anything else to get to me, right? Seriously girls, tell me that it’s not true.
Christy turns to grab what looks like an envelope behind her.
Julianna: Well?
Ally: Um… well…
Christy: See, the thing is…
Christy turns around holding the envelope in her hands.
Ally: We… uh….
Christy: Don’t sugar coat it.
Julianna: ...you agree with my mother, don’t you? DON’T YOU?!?!?!
Christy: Jules… easy now…
Julianna: So much for you two being my friends!
Ally: Hey hey, we are your friends and that’s why we’re trying to snap you out of this because whatever this pity party is, you and I both know that it isn’t you. We remember your graduation speech when you first joined WCG and how brash, how arrogant and how confident you were thinking you were about to take over the world.
Christy: Yeah, we do. Now it’s like… the Julianna now is nothing like the Julianna then. You need to stop being a child about this whole “six and six” thing and you need to snap out of this. You have a huge match tomorrow and if anything, you’ve proven capable of stepping up in a big match situation kind of early in your career.
Julianna: Whatever… you can’t help me.
Christy: Yes we can! Ally and I came up with a game… and a way to help you. You see, we’ve been doing some… research and we’ve decided that with this game… we are going to play a little something called “Over It, Not Over It, or Kill it With FIRE!”
Julianna: How is this supposed to help me?
Christy opens the envelope pulling out nine pictures from it.
Ally: It’s simple. We’ve decided to show you, right to your face…
Christy: Because it’s ALWAYS good to confront your problems head on…
Ally: Every loss you have suffered in your career so far.
Julianna looks confused and perplexed by all of this.
Ally: And what YOU need to do is say whether you’re over that loss, not over it, or to kill it with fire. Simple enough?
Julianna: If it gets both of you off my back, then yes.
Christy: And I’ll be here to provide the silver lining for everything negative you have to say! So, shall we get started?
Julianna rolls her eyes in annoyance.
Julianna: Whatever.
Ally: Cool! Okay, here it is...loss number one!
Ally shows Julianna a picture of the triple threat ladder match at Origins between herself,Trenton Kelvin and Ryan Keys. Julianna sighs before she gives off her answer.
Julianna: Over it… mostly. It would have been nice to be remembered as the first West Coast Champion though…
Christy: Well, it’s not about who’s first, it’s about who’s best and while Ryan was the first, he was obviously the worst. PLUS, it was a ladder match where ANYTHING could have happened. The odds weren’t in your favor that night.
Ally: It all worked out… as we know. Here’s loss number two!
Ally shows Julianna a picture of Ryan Keys pinning her at Hype 2 to retain the West Coast Championship.
Julianna: Over it…
Christy: As you should be. You created your own silver lining when you took the title from him at Rise.
Ally shows Julianna a picture of the Seventh Circle attacking the Messiahs while she was teaming with Scotty Latimer on Hype 3.
Julianna: Not really over that. That was a match that we had won but NO… fucking Seventh Circle…
Christy: Silver lining, Jules. Silver lining. It was a disqualification, it was out of your control. There was nothing you could have done to prevent the Seventh Circle from getting involved. So stop beating yourself up for it, yes?
Ally: I agree. I know it’s hard because you hate the Messiahs and all, but this loss here deserves a big ol’ asterisk! Okay, this next one might be a little tougher on you…
Ally shows Julianna a picture of herself losing to Honey in the semifinals of the GOL Super Falcon Cup tournament. Julianna’s eyes narrow in anger and she groans, clearly wanting nothing to do with that picture.
Julianna: NOT over it…
Christy: Why not? You got farther in the tournament than expected. It’s not like you lost to Alicia Hixx and had a Caroline Burchill-level meltdown or anything. Honey might be annoying, but she’s not a bad wrestler overall.
Ally: You beat a BETTER wrestler in Jack Tillman to get that far in the first place. Can’t you be happy with that alone?
Julianna: Yeah… fair points…
Ally: Okay… next one…
The next picture Julianna sees is the sweet sixteen of the AFI where she lost to Karari Makelah. This doesn’t just cause the West Coast Champion to narrow her eyes in anger, this causes her to take some hyperventilating breaths and to dig her nails into the sheets of the bed she is sitting on.
Julianna: No…
Ally: ...Jules?
Julianna: NO!!!
Christy: Come on Julianna… hold it together….
Julianna: KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!!
Ally: Christy, you owe me five dollars. Called it!
Christy: Julianna, listen…
Julianna: NO! There’s NO excuse for that. How can I LOSE to such a HAPHAZARD WRESTLER like HER? HOW?!?!?!? WHY?!?!??!?! UGH!!!!! You know something, wrestling has been less fun for me ever since. It’s like… I don’t know… I just… I can’t….
Ally: Can’t waht?
Julianna: I can’t get that one out of my head… losing to Ryan Keys… hell even Melina… that is what it is and all...but losing to HER??? How and why did that happen? I don’t understand… when my hopes and dreams for the AFI went… I think a lot of my confidence went with it!
Ally: Don’t say that. You DID win the West Coast title after all…
Christy: Yeah, you were able to bounce back and she’s on the WCG roster now and you have a chance to get that one back and then some at some point.
Ally: For her sake, I hope she gets that chance to avenge that because yeah… it’s… it’s still shaking her up a little.
Christy: Well this explains why you wrestle with such anger and hatred in your heart. It’s not even directed at anyone. It’s directed toward YOURSELF. You’re beating yourself down after every loss, because you’re beating yourself down over AFI. Maybe you’ll get the chance to face her again, but for now… you’ve got to stay focused.
Julianna: It haunts me… kill it with fire! Burn that photo! I can’t deal with it right now!
Christy: We’re dealing with it now, Julianna. Yes, your mother is right. You DO wrestle with anger and hatred in your heart, but that anger and hatred wasn’t with you until THAT loss happened because for months, you’ve been angry to the point of hating yourself for losing to someone that you feel is substandard compared to you.
Ally: Yeah, she’s right. Plus, she got all the way to the finals beating wrestlers that, with all due respect, are better than you. It happens, Jules. Sometimes the most mediocre of wrestlers happen to get hot at the right time, even for a brief moment, or a brief phase. Right place, right time. Plus, Merlot Ayano and Amy Jo Smyth, with the reputations THEY have, should be FAR more embarrased over losing to someone like THAT, than you should be. Since you’re a rookie, 7 times out of 10, you’d beat her.
Christy: Yeah, I mean, it just happened to be one of the other 3 times out of ten. If you were a sophomore in the business, you’d beat her 8 times out of 10, and if you were a third year veteran and above, it’s 9 times. Needless to say, we should probably cut the game short since we found the “disease” more or less.
Julianna: Yeah, let’s cover the other four. Eternal Lucha… over it. That ridiculous tag match with Donovan… annoyed as fuck, but over it. The most recent two losses… not over either of them…
Christy: Well, last time I checked, an errant kick, a distraction and a dead weight tag partner aren’t your fault.
Julianna: Okay, yeah, fair… but I was still the one that made the rookie mistake of getting distracted to begin with.
Ally: Jules… really? Why do you have to be so hard on myself?
Julianna: Ask my parents. I’m sure they could tell you everything that you would need to know.
Christy: ...touche. But still… what’s done is done. Some of the losses, you’re over. And the ones you’re not over? There’s a silver lining to most of them.
Julianna: Not Karari…
Ally: Uh yeah, even her. Like we JUST got through telling you, any wrestler can go on some miracle hot streak at the right time, which is precisely what her case is. If someone like Amy Jo Smyth wasn’t going to beat her, neither were you. The only thing you can do about that one is hope you get a rematch with her and THEN prove it was little more than a mere fluke.
Christy: Just because you don’t have the record you want, doesn’t mean those critics are right about you. Focus on Alechs and go from there, that’s all you need to do. If you beat him tomorrow, I am SURE that is going to boost your confidence right back to where it was before the AFI.
Ally: Plus, think of it this way. If you weren’t at your full confidence when you won the West Coast title to begin with, imagine what you’re capable of when you ARE. And hey, I think we just explained why you got distracted by Alechs: a lack of full confidence.
Julianna: Right. I suppose this helps. But right now? I want to be alone!
Ally and Christy sigh, not offering a response as they nod and oblige with just that. The WCG West Coast champion ruminates over a predicament that she can’t stand, as her brain tingles with numbness while she reflects upon her “horrible” (in her own mind) loss to Karari Makelah in the AFI tournament.
Julianna: I HAVE to win tomorrow… that’s all there is to it…
Julianna sighs, still struggling to get her confidence back as she reverts to staring at the TV screen again...
