The screen comes to life, giving us a glimpse into the private world of Ruby Lance. The newest member of the NGW roster is sitting on her bed Indian-style with her laptop in front of her. You can't see the laptop because it's filming her right now, but there you go. You get the gist of the scene. Ruby smiles into the camera and even waves to anyone bothering to tune in.
"Hey world! Or at least those who are nice enough to waste their time watching me."
She giggles at her own joke.
"Well, I guess I'm about to officially become a member of the NGW roster. I mean, Devlin Scott did officially welcome me already. He announced me as a member of the roster - a surprise to me, to be honest…"
Ruby can't help but smile as she thinks about that moment being sprung in her. As unexpected as it was, it was something she loved being surprised with.
"So, while I'm already a member of the NGW roster, what I'm saying is that once I step in the ring to compete against Jazmyn Rain then I will officially be an NGW competitor. Meanwhile, I'm still a member of the West Coast Genesis roster."
Once again it seems that she can't stop herself from smiling.
"I can't begin to say how proud I am to represent West Coast Genesis as the South Bay Champion while appearing on NGW television. West Coast Genesis gave me my start in this business. I wouldn't even be able to dream of being inside an NGW ring if it wasn't for what West Coast Genesis has given me. However…"
Her smile takes a hit and she glances off-camera before shaking her head, trying to dismiss the troubled expression that fills her eyes.
"West Coast Genesis competitor… NGW competitor… South Bay Champion… those are just a few of the things I've been called lately. Lately, it seems like everyone is calling me something."
She frowns, giving us a good indication that it's not a great thing in her mind that she's been called a lot of things. In fact, you can probably guess the things she's been called haven't been that great in her mind.
"Scotty Latimer says I'm a star. He's called me that long before… well, you guys know about him and I. Anyway, he's got high praise for me at every waking moment - to which that rubs some people the wrong way and they call me arrogant."
Ruby frowns more, glancing down for a moment as she tries to push through the feeling of people thinking that she's arrogant. Or maybe she's disappointed in herself for that one.
"Izzy says I'm one of the mean girls. Austen says I'm different. That he knows who I am and doesn't want me to change. Then there are those who call me things behind my back. Not too bothered by those. I'd drive myself crazy if I cared what those kinds of people think."
Ruby shrugs her shoulders in an effort to show how little she cares, though it's obvious that having anyone talk about her negatively does bother. Poor girl puts on a brave face, though. She musters up a smile despite the obvious struggle in that.
"I'm not here to complain about people who talk about me behind my back. That's always going to happen. Doesn't matter who you are. I'm not even here to complain about Izzy saying I'm part of the mean girls world. Thank you for calling me pretty, by the way."
Silver lining? Ruby doesn't look super thrilled to have been called pretty by Izzy. It beats being called a Mean Girl, but the earlier accusation sort of hurts the compliment that followed.
"I'm also not here to address Austen thinking that I'm different lately. Or his concerns that I'm changing. I'm also not going to address his disappointment in me. Now's not the time."
It may not be the time, but given the heavy breath that Ruby takes and the way she gets distracted from her topic; it's obvious that it's bothering her. She shakes her head lightly and tries to put that smile back on her face.
"I'm here to talk about one person and that's Jazmyn Rain. Everything I said earlier… it's because you don't do that, Jazmyn. You haven't done that to me. I appreciate that. Everyone is calling me something different and you're just welcoming me to the roster in a way that I can respect. You're going to show me what it's like to be part of NGW and you're going to do it in a way that I appreciate so much."
Ruby brings her hands together, almost in a prayer fashion, and nods her head to show that overwhelming appreciation to Jazmyn Rain.
"I know you've got a lot on your plate, Jazmyn. I know you have a lot of reasons to be angry, to be furious - especially knowing that you're going to be the welcoming committee when you should really be the Five Lakes Champion. However, you haven't tore me down. You haven't disrespected me in any way when it would be so easy for you right now. I appreciate that more than I can say. I'm honored to be joining the NGW roster alongside someone like you. I'm grateful that you're my first opponent on the big stage."
She sweeps her hair back out of her face and smiles brightly into the camera lens.
"Win or lose, I'm just thrilled to be here. I'm thrilled to be stepping into the ring with a talent that I look up to and respect. I'm excited for this next step in my career and I just appreciate the elegance and class that you've shown. I know I shouldn't expect that from everyone going forward, so it was a pleasant surprise. It deserves a lot more attention, you deserve a lot more attention."
Ruby shrugs her shoulders and nervously chews on her lip for a moment.
"Far too much attention is given to negativity in this sport. And I get it. Drama fuels matches for ticket sales and ratings and all those things that get us paid. I absolutely understand the necessity of it. But still. I don't think we should forget about positivity at the same time. I just wanted to let you know that someone notices. I know I'm just the girl from West Coast Genesis, but I notice. And I thank you for it. See you Sunday. Good luck!"
She flashes a bright smile into the camera and waves again before ending the video.
