The current reigning South Bay Champion is at it again in the West Coast Performance Center available to all WCG talent looking to step up their game even more. Perhaps no one needs it more than the South Bay Champion that was just recently promoted to the New Generation Wrestling roster just over a week ago. Yet to make her in-ring debut there, she has a roadblock on her path to a debut match against Jazmyn Rain as she defends her South Bay Championship against Izzy Roxx.
Ruby Lance finishes up her reps with the free weights, watching herself in the mirror as she lifts them up and slowly lowers them back down to her sides. She lets out a deep breath before placing them gently on the weight rack. She dabs her towel across her forehead and catches a glimpse of the camera through the mirror.
"I was wondering how long it'd be before you guys came around."
She flashes a smile into the mirror, reflecting it back into the camera for us.
"This is a huge match. I figured you guys would be poking around trying to get something from me or Izzy on it. Especially given the fact that she and I have had very little contact up until this point. It's definitely something new and exciting."
Ruby shrugs her shoulders and makes her way over to have a seat on the bench. She pulls out a water bottle and takes a sip before replacing the cap.
"At least I hope it'll be exciting. You know, I'm kind of worried about Izzy. She's almost written herself off from the word go. Maybe that's her strategy to make me think that she doesn't believe in herself and then when I lower my guard she'll take me out. Who knows?"
Shrugging her shoulders, she takes another sip from her water and sets it aside on the bench.
"All I know is, that I've tried to reach out to Izzy and help ease her mind about this opportunity. You know, twice now she's referenced mean girls when it comes to me. It's fine. She's entitled to her opinions. She's young and I get that this business can be rough when you're young. I'm only a couple years older than her, but I get it. It was rough for me when I started. It's still rough for me. Especially when things aren't exactly going the way you envisioned in the beginning."
She takes a deep breath and thinks back to the start of her career. A battle royal loss. Her tag team partner disappearing on her just days before their match. Not to mention all the problems she had with Aaynet.
"Like I said, I know it's rough. It's tough to just put a smile on your face and keep trying, but I am living proof that it can turn around. Like I said, I had a rough start here in West Coast Genesis, but I didn't let it get me down or keep me down. In fact, you and I have a lot more in common than you think, Izzy."
Even Ruby seems a little surprised by that when she comes to this realization.
"We're both young and new to this business. We both had a bit of a rough start here in West Coast Genesis. Neither of us started off here the way we would have liked, I can tell. Also, my first title opportunity came out of nowhere. I had yet to win a match when I was put up against a lot of incredible talent that made me doubt myself. But I still left that match as the first-ever South Bay Champion. So, see? There's nothing that says you can't leave this match as the champion."
Ruby shrugs her shoulders.
"I mean, there's me that says you can't leave this match as the champion, but I have just as much control over this as you do. So, it's up to you if you want to bring a fight to this match or if you want to come in defeated. Because I can assure you that I bring a fight every time my title is on the line. It doesn't matter if my opponent is one of my best friends, if my opponent wants to make some lame excuse to duck me, or if my opponent is Some Kid that I can relate to. All that matters to me is proving to everyone that I deserve to be the South Bay Champion. So that's what I'm going to do out there."
She collects her towel, throwing it over her shoulder, and then she picks up her water bottle before standing.
"Good luck, Izzy. Because you've got everything else you need."
Ruby flashes a friendly and encouraging smile before walking off camera and bringing the scene to an end.
