“Number one contender match. Winner gets Kayla “over-rated” Richards”
Alex chuckles to himself his arms f losing over his chest.
“Everyone believes her to be some kid me of bad ass, the second coming of Matt Shields, starting an epic title run right? I mean what everyone wants is to be champion, if you don't you're in the wrong business. See being the top champion in a company means you're one of the best in the world and a representative of that company…”
“Kayla Richards is not the top representative of NGW. Kayla Richards is a sneaky, lying, sociopath who doesn't care about anyone but herself.”
“It's probably why she fits so well with Matt Shields. Hell Johnny Maverick said it best. Shields gets all fidgety around me. And it's for good reason. See the Destroyers need one another to stay at the top. They need each other to be relevant. The only one of them that has any type of honor and conviction is Coda and she's blinded by misplaced loyalty to Matt, Tillman and especially Kayla…”
“But one thing that does intrigue me, what exactly will Matty boy do? Will he want to win this match to secure a title shot for himself or will he just try and do damage for her? And if he does win, what then?”
“Will he lay down for her? Will he crush her dreams? Will she lay down for him?”
Alex scoffs and rolls his bright blue eyes.
“So many questions. But the truth of it all, the feeling I have deep down in my gut is that Matt wants that title. Deep down he hates it's not around his waist, he hates that he isn't in the bright spotlight. He hates that his girlfriend did what he couldn't, took back what he failed to win. A guy like shields is all about himself, all about his legacy. Other people be damned. The entire company and the championship is there to serve him right?”
“He has no idea what it means to be a real champion, and neither does his beanheaded girlfriend. They're two peas in an arrogant self serving pod…”
“They are about themselves. And this match could break all that. This match could change the complexion of NGW.”
Alex shrugs and sighs deeply.
“But while Matt Shields is a delusional child Johnny Maverick is an X-Factor, Adrien Cochrane is the smiling shining beacon of good. We all make up different questions for Kayla to find answers for. But I have to question, is Adrien bloodthirsty enough to end Kayla?. I've seen people like the Destroyers my whole career, in fact I was like them and Adrien is a strong one man army but can he really be expected to pull the trigger and overcome the group? One on one Cochrane is ore than a match for most people including me….”
“I just question if he can stand up to all of them even with his guardians behind him. See I like Adrien, he's a respectful competitor who busts his ass and stands up for what he believes in. He's probably the best of us in that regard. And if I'm being honest Adrien deserves a shot at Kayla, they've been at each other's throats for awhile now…”
“Johnny Maverick on the other hand is, as I said the x-Factor. Before his shot at Yujiro everyone questioned if Johnny belonged in the main event. If he was championship material. And then he stepped in the ring and went toe to toe with the champ and proved alot of people wrong. He showed just how good he is and he shouldn't be underestimated.”
“Then again...neither should I,..”
“Maverick said he didn't know alot about me. Both Shields and Cochrane definitely do. But let me educate you Maverick. I'm an eight time world champion. Maybe nine time soon. I was the first Honor Wrestling champion, I'm the current WWH world champion and I'm someone that makes Matt Shields asshole pucker up and become water tight….”
“Then again there's one thing that stuck out to me. Mavericks comments about me and keeping my ego happy. Truth is if Devlin didn't want me going after the NGW title cause others deserved the opportunities more I'd agree and accept it. I'm not someone who trades on my name but people know it, as a comparison look at Matt. Who was he before the Redemption title helped him become a star?. Who cared about Matt before he proclaimed himself King? I mean don’t get me wrong Matt did a great job of making the belt mean something but it did attract guys like me and Adrien, and unlike Gavin Grimes we didn’t tuck tail and run. We have stayed and other like Johnny Maverick and Aurora Graves have stepped up to become contenders. And of course Avery Miles has returned and reminded everyone just how good he really is….”
“But back to my point. Adrien and I made our names elsewhere, we have been champions. Outside this company no one cares about Matt Shields. No one cares about Kayla and her threats. They want to own this company like others owned FSociety. But Maverick, the guardians, myself we refuse to let them rule with an iron fist, refuse to be held down. That’s why I’ll be putting my all into this match. While I love being a champion and holding titles when it comes to NGW I just want to do what is best for the company. To stand up and be the face and beacon of hope. To be a fighting champion and to do that I have to step up and win come Sunday night.”
“I have to beat a few great athletes….and Matt Shields. I have to show the world I’m one of the best of the best, one of the greatest competitors in the current landscape of not only NGW but all of wrestling. But when it’s all settled and a new contender is crowned one of us will face Kayla….and I can tell you now if it’s me, she can bring Matt, Coda, Tillman….anyone and it won’t stop me…”
