Breakaway
Date: October 7, 2017
It would be an understatement of the year to suggest that WCG West Coast Champion Julianna DiMaria has been in quite a foul mood lately. One would think that she’d be happy, considering that she finally got that championship that she coveted so much, but in the early stages of her reign, things haven’t gone according to plan in some aspects of the big picture. Whether it’s having to constantly wrestle the Messiahs or her parents deciding to expect more out of her, the young upstart from San Diego is certainly not enjoying her reign at this point as much as she was hoping she would. For now, she’s hanging out with Ally and Christy from her parents’ wrestling academy in a meager effort to have “friends” in her life. As they sit in front of a television set watching a movie, Julianna has an annoyed look on her face, zoning out and not even paying attention to the screen or to the two young ladies sitting near her. One of them finally breaks the ice while Julianna merely messes around with her cell phone.
Ally: Having fun, Julianna?
Julianna doesn’t respond, being so tied up with her phone.
Christy: Jules!
Julianna sighs.
Julianna: What?
Christy: Ally just wanted to know if you’re having fun.
Julianna: Oh. Yeah. Sure. Whatever…
Ally: Are you even watching the movie?
Julianna: It’s okay I guess…
Christy suddenly pauses the movie and shakes her head, clearly knowing that Julianna hasn’t even bothered.
Christy: You haven’t even said a word to us since you came over.
Ally: Yeah! We invited you over to TRY to be friends with you, but you’re being completely uncooperative about this.
Julianna: You guys don’t even care, let’s be really honest here. You both want to ride my coattails just to know what it’s like to be side by side with someone successful.
Christy: Great, still stubborn.
Christy and Ally look at each other and shake their heads while Julianna puts her phone away.
Julianna: Why do you both even care anyway?
Ally: We’ve been noticing…. Um…
Ally pauses, feeling quite nervous knowing that what she’s about to say to Julianna might end up setting her off. The West Coast champion rolls her eyes, giving off a sigh of her own. Julianna looks into Ally’s eyes, detecting a hint of fear in her.
Christy: What Ally is trying to say is that we’re concerned about you.
Julianna smiles before breaking out in laughter, resulting in her two “friends” being slightly rattled by this. Julianna stops laughing when she sees the concerns on the faces of both of them.
Julianna: Okay, I can’t believe that I am even entertaining this at all. But what in god’s name are you both concerned about? Everything’s fine. I’m the WCG West Coast Champion, I rule my own world now in this business and I am doing it all without the influence or interference of my parents because fuck them both! They aren’t going to bask in MY glow anymore and try to tell ME what to do.
Ally: Right, we get that and we support that.
Christy: Because fuck your parents, that’s why!
Ally: But… well…
Christy: It’s just that…
Julianna: Listen ladies, I’d respect you both a hell of a lot more if you were both blunt and honest with me instead of just sitting there looking like a couple of scared children wondering how to sugar coat whatever in God’s name these senseless concerns are all about. So, do me and yourselves, a favor and just get to the fucking point already.
Christy: Okay… if that’s what you really want. Ally? Since you were the one that was saying it?
Ally: You are REALLY behaving like an ass on social media!
Julianna’s eyes widen in surprise, hearing that from Ally.
Ally: You are making SO many enemies and not just in WCG, but in NGW too.
Christy: If you ever try to talk to your parents anytime soon, they are REALLY going to be pissed off.
Ally: Not that we’re trying to be your parents or anything of course. It’s just… well… you’re burning your bridges in record time. You are completely alienating yourself from all of your peers in WCG, even the ones that remotely supported you. Wrestling is a business that you would never want to be alone in because that’s one scary world out there. Oh my god, I’m so sorry… I sounded just like your mom….
Ally’s face turns slightly red with embarrassment while Julianna soaks in what she just heard. There’s no question that Julianna’s demeanor as of late has been incredibly controversial with the aforementioned alienation of her peers. Julianna doesn’t respond as she is contemplating everything Ally just told her. She remembers how much the Messiahs have been an annoyance to her almost from day one, how Scotty Latimer was someone that she had once respected, but now couldn’t because of certain choices that he made with his life and career, how Mason Moore of the NGW roster had respected her, but suddenly decided to want nothing to do with her in light of her recent attitude issues. She recalls how Jess Hardy and Rachel Redding reached out to her and wanted to be best of friends with her only for neither of them to pull their actual weight before departing. Lastly, she remembers the crew that she calls the “Glee Club”... a collection of enemies (in her own mind) that clique up to want to diminish and shadow her out of sheer jealousy. Finally, she thinks about the very concept of friendship and the West Coast Champion lets out a sigh before pouting a bit as she looks at her two acquaintances with an annoyed look on her face.
Julianna: I want nothing to do with them. I won my championship without any friends. I did it all on my own. I don’t know if you two are trying to include some dumbass Glee club with me in it or anything, but I’ll tell you this much. Neither of you have done much of anything for me and we probably shouldn’t do this again.
Christy rolls her eyes, once again annoyed by Julianna’s stubbornness.
Julianna: Seriously, friendship is SO overrated.
Christy: Why would you even THINK that? Listen Jules, unlike those idiots that you work with, we’re not going to chalk it up to some non-existent jealousy of Ruby Lance.
Ally: SO overrated!
Julianna: Welcome to THAT club!
Ally: In order for us to BE friends, we need to understand why you think friendship is such a cancer.
Christy: Yeah! We care for you!
Julianna: You two care for me?
Julianna scoffs, obviously not believing what she just heard.
Julianna: So what? You care about the fact that when WCG first started, I got on with Rachel Redding and Jess Hardy almost from day one? You want to know how utterly embarrassed I was that my dream was to face the two in the triple threat ladder match for the West Coast title only to find out that I was the only one that actually WON her battle royal?
Christy: That’s a great start1
Julianna: Trust me, it was NAUSEATING! The fact that I had to carry such dead weight? Rachel turned out to be quite an enigma, and I don’t mean that in a good way. She up and left, but not before she forgot I existed.
Julianna sighs with anger, reflecting on the non-existent friendship that she had with Rachel Redding.
Julianna: And then you have Jess Hardy. Stupid, moronic, Jess Hardy. Couldn’t buy a win to save her life! But the thing that bothered me the most about her was how she was so cool and respectful to Ryan Keys even though he beat one of her so-called friends and thus, jumped on that stupid Ryan Keys bandwagon so many were on at the start of his reign. Then, she fucked off before that bandwagon broke the fuck down. Why would I want friends, when someone is sleeping with my worst enemy?
Ally: Wait, you mean Ryan and Jess…
Julianna: No Ally, they didn’t fuck. It was a figure of speech. For fuck’s sake, what is it with people taking everything I say completely literally?
Christy: We were actually going to mention the whole “inferno match” thing too…
Julianna: I’d rather not talk about it. We’re having such a good talk about “friendship” as is. But do you understand what I mean?
Ally and Christy nod.
Julianna: Why would either of you want to care about the fact that Scotty Latimer was trying to be all cool with me starting from the moment we dealt with the Messiahs, then he decides to fuck off and join the even-worse Ruby Rose bandwagon even deciding to FUCK THE STUPID BITCH knowing fucking well that I HATE HER? Did he ever care for my feelings there? Nooo… well, you two don’t either, but that’s besides the point. Why would you care about Mason Moore and how suddenly, I’m hated by him just because of my outspoken nature? HELLO? I’m the fucking West Coast champion. I’ve EARNED that outspoken nature. Why should I be so sorry about the fact that I didn’t jump on the bandwagon? Why should I be like everyone else that is leeching off of Ruby’s ass like a school of barracudas, huh? I’ve never been one to follow the crowd and I am not about to start now. The way they gang up on me, the way they try to pass HER off as something special… when she’s NOT… fucking vanilla sundae snow cone bitch… at MY expense… What’s even the point of trying to be friends with anyone when they’re all the same old, same old? They’re either going to stab you in the back, or abandon you. No two ways around it!
Ally: I have to admit, those are some good points. But that’s WCG. You shouldn’t be punishing us for what happens there.
Christy: Yeah, we’re actually TRYING to be your friends and TRYING to understand your feelings. Jess, Rachel, Scotty and so forth never bothered because they were all using you. None of them were ever your friends.
Julianna: You both make strong points…
Ally: We’re with you, Jules. This collective Ruby Rose orgasm is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. She’s not even special at ALL! I can’t blame you for lashing out at that.
Christy: Yeah, all those morons that put her on a pedestal for no reason at all are merely trying to reduce you to second rate.
Julianna: Bottom line, I get no respect from anyone in WCG. Friendship is stupid. I’m tired of fighting the same idiots over and over, Devlin’s overreaction to my “Honey can die in a fire” comment is RIDICULOUS… well, that’s the whole shebang in a nutshell….
Ally and Christy chortle and laugh.
Julianna: What’s so funny?
Christy: You said shebang....
Ally: The WCG Collective Ruby Lance SHEBANG…
Christy and Ally laugh some more while Julianna rolls her eyes.
Julianna: Overall, I CHOOSE to be alone. I HAD friends and they all ditched me and tormented me in high school when they found out that I wanted to be a wrestler…
Julianna pauses and sighs, reflecting on that hurtful moment. Ally’s and Christy’s eyes light up, knowing that a “Eureka moment” just occurred.
Ally: Well DAMN, there’s our answer…
Julianna: girls, it’s not a big deal!
Christy: Yes it is! It all makes sense now. You can’t trust anyone.
Ally: Trust issues! Make us understand, Jules. How did that all affect you?
Tears start to well up in Julianna’s eyes and as a result, she abruptly stands up and walks to the back door.
Christy: Wait, Jules.
Julianna: Leave me alone!
Ally: But…
Julianna: NO! That’s something I’d rather not talk about. Friendships are BULLSHIT! End of story! Right now, I just want to step outside for a little. Okay? It’d be nice if someone respected my wishes for a change.
Christy and Ally spot Julianna’s tear filled eyes and they give an understanding nod.
Christy: Okay, no worries. Clear your head if that’s what you need to do.
Julianna: Thanks…
Julianna turns back around and opens the back living room door, into the backyard. She sighs, wiping her eyes as she copes with her “friendship issues”. She reflects on the “Glee club” in WCG that she despises so much, but she barely gets a chance upon the sound of her phone ringing. Julianna groans in annoyance as she pulls her phone out of her pocket.
Julianna: Who the fuck is bothering me?
Julianna looks at her phone and her eyes widen, though it’s unknown whether it’s shock, fear or both. The West Coast Champion realizes that she has a text message:
“CALL ME…. NOW!!!!!! You are in SERIOUS trouble! Don’t make us call the police to get you back home- DAD”
Julianna: Oh no...
With Julianna having a tough night as is, her father texting her demanding she call him just made it worse. Now? The young champion is at a serious crossroads on what to do. Does she continue to pretend her parents don’t exist? Or does she deal with the current conflict and bitterness at hand with them head on? For Julianna, growing up has definitely never come easy!
