Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds
Now sit back and enjoy as the story unfurls
This is a land of nightmares, of spirits unclean
Where the darkest horror is the one yet unseen
-Phoenix Reborn By Tim Vallie
“Do you understand what you’ve done Yujiro?...”
Kayla Richards sits cross legged on the floor of an empty room. The walls are circular, no corners or windows as a single lightbulb swings back and forth above her. Kayla’s head is down, her long black hair flowing down over her face and body as we just see the silhouette of her face. Her nose and forehead in shadow. Her voice is low and measured, her accent shining through a little more as she takes a deep breathe to continue.
“I was supposed to be the champion, I was supposed to stand above all and realise my destiny. I was supposed to be his queen, reclaiming his crown from the man who would be a pretender to the throne. This wasn’t some kind of hype for a match, this was a moment, a conflux in time where I was supposed to realise my life’s goal and prove my work was not in vain. It was supposed to be a validation of sacrifice, a proving point where all I have ever done was not for nothing. The pain I went through….the breaking point…”
The screen crackles and goes to static, in between Kayla in the darkness black and white images of Kayla laughing can be seen, her eyes shining green like emeralds, the only color in the scene. It fizzles back to Kayla who laughs to herself. Her laughter slightly muffled byu something. Her hands drift up to her hair pulling on it as she laughs again, the screen flickers, showing disjointed versions of the end of the match at convergence, Kayla missing the V-trigger, Yujiro hitting the Liger Bomb, the sound of Kayla’s body hitting the mat echoing loud intertwining with her laughter.
“This was supposed to be the moment I surpassed my sister. The moment I proved that I was better than the stupid blonde bitch ex floating around twitter. But you Yujiro, you ruined that. Congratulations. You defended your title, you were able to beat me and take me down. You were able to show me as a fraud, a phony. A pretender. You took my heart, the last shred of humanity I had left and you crushed it in front of the world. You broke me.”
“I stood outside the ring and I watched as Devlin Scott handed you a brand new championship, a title that now has a shared lineage of both the Redemption Heavyweight title and the NGW title. That is what you have now, that is what you hold in your hands Yujiro. And in my hands?. I hold the ashes, the burned dreams of a stupid little girl who dared to want to be something greater than herself. A child whose innocence was taken at a young age, a girl whose soul was stolen as she tried to make her way in this world.”
She slowly looks up, her eyes becoming visible in the light above. A slight hint of green, her nose covered by something as she tilts her head and shows a black mask, leather with studs down the side in the style of the bottom half of a gas mask.
“I’ve fought against what I am, believe it or not the last few months was me trying to be a good person. I was arrogant sure but I tried to show emotion, passion, I tried to show that I cared about people and that I respected what some people could do in the ring. I gave you a small amount of respect and that was too much. See Yujiro the moment that three count happened, the second I couldn’t kick out...your fate was sealed.”
“Devlin then put that nail in the coffin, he put the first strike against you. He should have kept me away from you. I won’t be responsible for my actions Yujiro, I won’t be the one who feels guilt. I mean you got soul man. You got heart. I don’t. You have apathy and sincerity. I have nothing. I have no emotions, no feelings. I am a blank slate, a dark hole where nothing is reflected back. Most people can look inside themselves and see a reflection, a true form of who they are and what they’re about.”
“Me?”
“I see nothing. I don’t see the reflection staring back, I don’t see the soul everyone says they have or the heart I just see death. And pain. And it;s time I stopped ignoring that. I have tried to reclaim humanity, tried to be human. I’m not sure I am. Sure I bleed, I breathe, I can be touched, beaten...but as far as remorse and apathy?. I have none….”
Kayla reaches back and undoes the mask pulling it away from her face, Kayla’s plump lips covered in bright red lipstick as it twists into a wickid, evil grin. Kayla pushes herself up to her feet looking up at the lightbulb as it flickers and makes a buzzing noise, a black leather collar around her neck, Kayla’s eyes seem to roll back in her head as she’s attracted to the light like a moth to a flame. She smiles and rests her forehead against the bulb, the head causing a few sparks as she laughs and stares back forward.
“You seemed to be under some form of idea that this match was about respect. Or lack there of. The truth is I couldn’t give a fuck about respect, I don’t need it, I don’t want it. The match at convergence was about validation and the realisation of a dream and a destiny. But this match at the first ever Dissention?. It’s just going to be about revenge. It’s going to be about taking back my identity. Realising my lack of humanity. It’s going to be about me snapping you like the insignificant little twig that you are and banishing you back to the land of mediocrity. Yujiro….”
“What Kayla Wants...Kayla...FUCKING Gets….”
Kayla takes a step back and hits the lightbulb, it smashes and pops before we go to total darkness.
