The scene opens as Austen and Jack are heading out of Austen's SUV.
Austen: Yeah man, this is my go to spot. Brought Mercedes here and she loved it. They have new shit. Vintage. Whatever you want.
Austen was excited to share this gem with a guy that would hopefully become a new friend.
Jack: Nice. That sounds perfect. I'm kind of looking for some stuff I've never gotten my hands on before, you know?
Jack rubbed his hands together, salivating almost as if he and Austen were about to sit down to a delicious meal.
They head inside of the store. There is an older man at the counter.
Man: AB! My man! How's it going? How's that girl of yours?
Austen laughs.
Austen: Mercedes is well. This is Jack.
Man: Hello Jack.
Austen: My boy is looking for some sweet kicks.
Jack extends his hand and shakes the man's hand.
Jack: Yeah, Nike is my thing. But I'm into mostly anything. Austen said you have a nice selection here.
Man: We do. You want current? Vintage? Throwback?
He looks at Jack.
Jack: I'm really looking for a lot of throwback. Space Jam Jordan's for one.
Jack chuckles as he looks at the man.
Jack: Maybe get some of the kicks I didn't get as a kid, you know?
Man: Well, I think I might have a pair. Oooh, what size?
Jack: 13?
Jack looks at the man with all of the hope in the word.
Man: Hold one. Be right back.
The man disappears into the back.
Austen: Look around man. This place is killer.
Jack: Yeah, its amazing.
Jack, of course walks over to the Nike section and spots several pairs of Jordan's he likes. He's probably owned these all at one time but the man loves to buy the same pairs that he's owned each time they get too beat up to use any longer.
Jack: You looking for anything in particular, man?
Jack glances up at Austen while still browsing around himself.
Austen: I like weird, off shoots. Something that just catches my eye. You know?
He looks through some old boxes.
Jack: Yeah I get you. I've been into purple lately. Hence the Space Jam Jordan's.
Jack laughs as he makes his way over to the Adidas.
Austen: I always liked the Pumas. They are out there, some of them.
The man comes back.
Man: Good news and bad news.
Jack walks over the man.
Jack: Bad news first.
Man: I have no size 13.
Jack furrows his brow. What could possibly be the good news if the man doesn't have his size?
Jack: So what's the good news?
Man: I have them in 12?
He held them up.
Jack sucks his teeth.
Jack: Yeah, that probably won't happen. Thanks for looking though. You have an amazing place here.
The man nods. He heads into the back again to put them away.
Austen: Sorry, man.
Austen finds a pair of old school Reebok.
Jack shakes his head but with a smile.
Jack: It's no problem at all. The hunt is half the fun. I'm sure I'll get my hands on them one day.
Jack looks down at the old Reeboks that Austen is currently admiring.
Jack: Those are sweet!
Austen: Classics man. I think I might get them.
Jack turns around spots some Air Jordan's that instantly make his eyes light up. The Jordan 12 "flu game."
Jack: Oh, man...
Jack holds the shoes up to Austen.
Austen: Flu game. Against.. the Cavs?
Austen tries to remember.
Jack: Against the Jazz in the finals.
Austen: Oh yeah, I remem-
Man: Got them. Got them. They were packed away. Size 13. Space Jams.
He puts them on the counter.
Jack's jaw drops as he turns his attention to the counter. He's face to face with the holy grail of shoes that eluded him as a kid.
Jack: Sir...I just may hug you.
Jack goes in and legit hugs this man he's known for just a few minutes with the biggest smile imaginable.
The man laughs.
Austen: See? A pure gem, this place is.
Austen puts his Reebok up on the counter as well.
Austen: Let me get them, Jack. You did me a solid and had by back out there last show. It's the least I could do.
Jack: Dude! Are you sure? You really don't have to.
Jack looks at Austen as he's still about to reach for his wallet.
Austen: Nah. I got it. Seriously.
Austen pulls out his wallet and pays for both pairs.
Austen: Plus. We are friends, right?
Jack: Of course. I'm glad I was able to help the three of you out like that. You guys have all been great to me since I got to WCG.
Jack shoves his wallet back into his pocket.
Jack: Thanks, Austen. I got you next time.
They grabs the shows and thank the man. Heading outside.Austen stops Jack.
Austen: You cool with this whole little South Bay group thing we got going?
Jack: Yeah.
Jack nods his head.
Jack: I mean is there any reason that I shouldn't be cool with it?
Austen: I just want to make sure I wasn't pushing you into anything. Those Messiah guys... they are no joke.
Jack: No. I went out there cause I wanted to.
Jack shrugs his shoulders.
Jack: Besides. I can't stand the Messiahs. Even though I know I put a big target on my back. I'm stick of listening to them run their mouths, you know?
He nods.
Austen: Cool. I just, didn't want to force you. Regardless, you are good peeps and we definitely need to hang more. You got a girl? Cuz if so, we need to double date.
Jack chuckles and shakes his head.
Jack: No. No girl yet. But we definitely need to hang out more. That's for sure.
The two of them head back into the SUV as Jack keeps opening his shoe box admiring his new gems.
