Redemption’s camera crew caught up with Gaia Galanos just after a hard workout. As she stalked away from the battling ropes, they rushed to catch up with her. Gaia, uninterested in being interrogated by the press, attempted to evade them, but couldn’t. With her hoodie pulled over her head, Gaia’s steely blue eyes glared out at Richard Kelly. “Let’s get this over with,” she muttered with her ever-present Mediterranean accent. Her now-raven locks hung like black drapes around her sweaty chest where a curious little key hung.
Richard Kelly’s mouth twisted into a smile. “Gaia, thank you for giving us a moment of your time. I know you’re a busy wrestler. In fact, you looked great out there tonight. You are clearly in your prime, but,” —Richard seemed to hesitate momentarily before daring to utter his next words— ” are you ready for your match at Convergence in the Redemption AFI Finals against Karari Mekelah?”
Unexpectedly, Gaia actually seemed amused with the question. A small smile graced her lips as her eyes returned to Richard. “Am I ready for my match against Karari?” The question almost angered her, but —for whatever reason— there was a smile on Galanos’ face. “Before I answer that question, I want everyone in Redemption to listen closely,” she demanded calmly. “If you learn only one thing about me during the time I have spent in front of all of you, learn that this is what I do,” Gaia stated while pointing a finger at the gym, and most importantly, the 16x16 wrestling ring. “I know every last one of you is thinking well ‘so do I’!” Gaia shook her head, denying them that claim with pursed lips. “While all of you are out with your significant others, spending time with your children, or out getting hammered with your buddies, I am right here training my ass off.” Her glare became more intense. “You can call it sad, crazy, or whatever you want. I literally live, eat, sleep, and breathe this sport.” A sudden coherence returned to Gaia’s face as she suddenly smiled once more. Despite this, Richard Kelly seemed rather figgity under Gaia’s gaze. “Does that answer your question?”
Having taken a second to think about it, Richard Kelly nodded, confirming that it had. “Any strategies headed into your match against Makelah?”
“Yes,” Gaia said simply. For a moment, it seemed as if she was just going to leave everyone hanging. “I have been wrestling almost all my life, and I learned how to be a professional wrestler from Pat Gordon, Senior.” For a split second, a pained glare shone in Gaia’s eyes. “I perfected my submissions and ground game with Eddie Ramirez.” Gaia’s jawline visibly tightened as her brows dipped. “Word is Karari boasts a good technical game. I say she doesn’t even know the meaning of the word: technical.” A twisted smirk graced Galanos’ features. “I am going to out-wrestle Karari. Then, when she least expects it, my knee is meeting her jaw. I’ll cover any dental work. It’s the least I can do.”
Gaia seemed primed to walk away to the locker room, but Richard Kelly halted her with one last question. “Oh, uh, Gaia, during a recent video, Kayla Richards went on record as saying: ‘Gaia is touting her lucky win over me,’ and that you were just sitting on your hands while she was pulling double-duty.” Before Richard could continue a small smirk on Gaia’s face told him that she probably had been expecting this come up.
“Richard,” she began, “Kayla can walk around telling anyone she wants these fairy tales, but we all know that if she truly believes I beat her by mere chance, then all of those punches I was raining down on her must have caused brain damage. Because if no one out there remembers a referee had to step in because she couldn’t protect herself.” Gaia suddenly clutched the camera lens and pulled it close to her smooth yet angular features. “Sound familiar, Kayla? I am not here for petty bullshit. I am here to win the AFI then win the Redemption Heavyweight Championship. Honestly, I don't care who I have to beat for it, but do you want my most honest opinion, Kayla? I would rather fight Mr. Fujiwara because a referee hasn't had to step in on his behalf yet. Calamity is here.” The camera abruptly shook thanks to a shove from Gaia. As she walked off, Richard Kelly thanked her for her time before the feed came to an end.
