“Ugh… I can’t believe I let that happen.”
Jason Hunter sighed once more as he hung his head low and let the water of the warm shower rush over his head. He slowly turned it off, and stayed still as the water dripped from his long hair. After a few seconds, he grabbed a towel and dried his hair, then wrapped it around his waist. He headed out to the locker room he shared with his girlfriend and most recent opponent, Tasmin Richards. She was still beaming from her victory, which only served to bring his mood down.
“Hey you did great babe...I got lucky is all…”
She smiled and gave a shrug walking up to Jason putting a hand on his shoulder carefully stepping on her tip toes to kiss his lips not wanting to get wet pressing herself against him.
“Nine times out of ten you’d beat me, we both know that. Tonight was just my night, you’re amazing babe….”
Jason pulled back a bit and shook his head.
“You didn’t just get lucky. You took advantage. I wasn’t focused, I didn’t have my head in there. You did what Matt and Kayla, and I have been telling you to do. You found an opening, showed the killer instinct and took the win. I, let my emotions get the better of me and made an absolutely awful first impression out there. I went out there, pussy footed around and ended up looking like a little bitch.”
Jason smacks his hand against the wall, letting out a bit of his frustration. He gives his bag a kick and sits down in front of it, his head once again hanging low.
“If there’s one thing I’ve already learned is that this business is fickle….”
Tasmin sits down next to Jason resting her head on his shoulder, sliding her arms around his waist not caring about getting her clothes wet.
“I lost my first match, the next two I’ve won and that’s what people remember. You’ll bounce back. I’m sorry if me winning has somehow hurt you. I guess it just shows how much you care about me. It’s sweet really. And believe me it’s ok to be sweet and kind to me...but everyone else...you’ll destroy….”
Jason doesn’t even look at her, he just grabs a pair of black boxers from his bag, slides them on, then pulls away from her.
“I looked like a god damn joke out there.”
He stands up and tosses his towel across the room.
“That was my chance to prove what I could do, and all I proved is that I can be easily distracted and taken advantage of. Matt would have never let Kayla do anything like that. He would have gone out there and fought like it was anyone else. I couldn’t do that though. I was so worried about hurting you. I was so worried about breaking you. I was so worried about you.”
Jason turns his back to her, and just sighs.
“First off, we are not like Matt and Kayla….”
She steps forward and grabs his arm tight spinning him around. She shakes her head with a sigh and calms herself.
“You did let your emotions get the best of you. I didn’t. But I switch off, every loss is a lesson. That’s what my older sister says, not Kayla, Amber. She says you take a loss and use it to get better. You won’t make that mistake again. I love you Jason...and I know you do me and you didn’t want to hurt me…..there’s nothing wrong with that….”
He still can’t quite look at her, turning his head to the side as he takes a deep breath.
“But that’s what people are gonna be expecting from me. I have to be as good as Matt was during his title run. Hell, I have to be even better than that. If he didn’t vouch for me, I might not have this job. I burned a lot of bridges, and ended up hurting a lot of people. I’m supposed to be ruthless. I’m supposed to be violent. I’m supposed to be a killer. Instead, I was hesitant. I was weak, I was unfocused, I was a loser.”
“You’re not am loser to me.”
She sighs and folds her arms over her chest.
“I’m expected to live up to my sisters. I’m expected to be mean and ruthless and out there, I saw it in your eyes. I saw the doubt and the hesitation and this fear that you’d hurt me and yeah, I exploited it. And even though I’m happy I got a win. I’m not going to lie to you, it felt wrong. You’re better than me Jason, you know you are. And you’ll prove how good you are to everyone…..but please don’t hate me…”
He takes another deep breath and finally looks at her.
“I could never hate you. I just… I’m mad at myself. I’m a little mad at you too, but mostly mad at myself. I was the one who was supposed to take advantage of you not wanting to fight me.”
She shakes her head and sighs.
“You had chances, but you couldn’t pull the trigger. I guess I’m your kryptonite baby...but trust me...you’re my superman”
She winks and bites her bottom lip. A small smile crosses his face for the first time, and he gives her a quick kiss.
“You’re still not completely off the hook though.”
Jason winks and lightly spanks her, causing her to jump
“Oh?. is there someway I’m going to be able to make it up to you?. Some special treat?. I could bake you cookies….or..make you pancakes…”
She giggles and shrugs
“Cookies huh? I could definitely eat some cookies.”
Jason winks and gives her another kiss, then throws on some clothes so they can head back to their hotel.
