Ruby Lance is in the West Coast Performance Center busting her ass. Or at least, that's how it appears given the flushed face, the sweat covering her body, and her hair that she takes down to re-do her ponytail for a more composed look. She takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly.
"So, I survived Austen…"
Apparently, she's aware that the cameras are watching her, unless she just loves talking to herself. Honestly, she could love talking to herself. She's got a lot of thoughts going on in her head. That's another thing we can sort of decipher just from looking at her.
"And no rest for the weary, I suppose."
It's hard to get a read on how she feels about that, exactly. Maybe she's a little overwhelmed by it. Maybe she's slightly annoyed by it. Maybe it's pushing her to be better. It's a bit conflicting from her expression, though that could be from the obvious high intensity she's apparently kicked her work-outs into.
"At Rise, I had a huge challenge. But at Hype… I had a seemingly impossible challenge. I still don't know how exactly I survived that Ladder Match to become the first-ever South Bay Champion. I mean, I know what happened. I credit Austen for a good portion of my victory, but that doesn't change the fact that I am the South Bay Champion and that I proved I deserve it by beating Austen one-on-one with no questions left behind."
She takes a deep breath and the start of a proud smile tugs at the corners of her lips. It barely lingers a moment before it fades into the conflict written all over her face.
"Danni was taken out of the match by He Who Shall No Longer Be Named."
That was Danni's orders. She got rid of the guy and now it's as if he never existed. Except, he needs to exist in history to properly tell this story.
"There's no question in my mind that Danni deserves this opportunity. The question that is in my mind is… would things have been different if she wasn't taken out of the Ladder Match? What part would she have played otherwise? What part would Donovan had played if he wasn't so concerned for her?"
Those are all good reasons for the champ to look concerned. She takes another deep breath and lets it out with a sigh as she drops down onto the bench for a real breather.
"Austen was a challenge that I needed to prove myself. West Coast fans needed to see who between us would win one-on-one with that title on the line. But I needed to know who would win between us. The same can completely be said for Danni and I."
Ruby grabs her nearby water bottle and brings the straw towards her lips, but thoughts plaguing her mind keep her from taking a drink right away. She stares straight ahead, at nothing in particular, and turns her thoughts over in her mind.
"She's one of the best friends I've made here in West Coast Genesis since I joined. One of the nicest people and the hardest workers that I know. Heck, she asked me to be a bridesmaid at her wedding, for crying out loud! She and Donovan, and Austen and his girlfriend Mercedes. Four of my best friends here in West Coast Genesis and… and what the heck are we doing?"
She seems to come to her senses at the straw at her lips, taking a quick drink before setting the water bottle aside.
"Fighting your friends is never easy, I don't imagine. I haven't had too much experience with it, both fortunately and unfortunately. Fighting Austen was tough. Getting serious but being careful was a hard line to walk. What makes it harder is not knowing for sure what means more to the other person: your friendship or their career."
Ruby closes her eyes and shakes her head as that particular thought seems to be a little heavy for her to process.
"I can't make assumptions about people. You can't say that choosing one over the other makes someone a better or worse person. We're all here for one thing and that's our careers. But after the lights go off and the fans go home, we're still people. We still have lives and nobody wants to live that alone."
Opening her eyes, she lets out a breath that she didn't even realize that she was holding in. She shakes her head again, doing her best to loosen that thought consuming her.
"Austen doesn't live his life alone. Danni doesn't live either life alone."
She purposely ends the thought there, closing her eyes as she takes another breath and lets it out in a bit of a huff.
"So, what's more important to her? That's what I need to find out."
Ruby opens her eyes and frowns before finally glancing in the direction of the camera. Yep, she wasn't just rambling on to herself. Well, not completely. Part of this was intended for the camera's viewing. She takes one last deep breath before standing and getting back to her work-out.
