Believe me 'cause now's the time to try
Don't wait, the chance will pass you by
Time's up to figure it out
You can't say it's too late
Seems like everything we knew
Turned out were never even true
Don't trust, things will never change
You must be dreaming

“Alrighty! Time to get this kid a hotel room and an Uber ride to it!”
Eddie Walker’s voice sounded joyous as he closes his back door to his Slidell, Louisiana home. The kid he was referring to was about to announced member of the West Coast Genesis roster, Adam Sanders, who was looking up his manager, then back at his mentor.
Adrien: “He doesn’t need a hotel or a ride. He can crash at my place for the night. He hasn’t wrestled in months. Let’s not drain the kid’s bank account. Go get in my car, Adam. I’ll meet you there.”
Sanders nods his head without saying a word. He went around the Walker residence and approaches Adrien’s Mercedes-Benz. As soon as he hears the door unlock, he pulls the handle of the passenger seat of the vehicle. He sits for a moment as he watches Adrien exit the Walkers’ front door, carrying the folder Eddie gave him hours ago. The Dropkick King jumps into the driver’s seat of his car and twists the key.
Adam: “I appreciate the ride and letting me spend the night.”
Adrien: “Yeah, don’t mention it.”
Sanders is quiet for a few minutes as Adrien navigates his way out of the neighborhood and onto Highway 190. Once Adrien set his car on cruise control, Sanders opens his mouth again.
Adam: “Can I ask you a question?”
He catches himself before Adrien gives the cliche responses he is known to give.
Adam: “I mean more than just that one.”
Adrien: “Sure.”
Adrien turns on his bright headlights as the last car within sight passes by Adrien.
Adam: “I’ve been thinking about you and your career and your life with Stacy…”
Adrien: “Before you get too ahead of yourself, you’re aware of the events before I got to where I am today, right?”
Sanders is quiet for a few minutes, pondering Adrien’s past.
Adrien: “I know you want a life like mine. I know you want the championships and the fancy house and the love of your life and everything. But you aren’t any worse off than I was when I was at your point in your career. I was told I was never going to win a championship as I was being fired. I was told I was an overrated flash in the pan that would never amount to anything.”
Sanders tries to process the words Adrien was saying.
Adrien: “It’s something that happens at different speeds for everyone. Yeah, you see people take off and win big championships at young ages. Some of them never make it past age twenty-seven in this industry after that. Some people, like me and maybe you, don’t win a big one until we are already old enough to rent a car. It happens. There isn’t an exact science to it.”
Adam: “Yeah, I see what you’re saying.”
Adrien: “Are you sure you’re ready to do this, Adam?”
Adam nods his head but then remembers Adrien can’t see him nodding his head.
Adam: “Yeah, I am. I am worried I won’t get to the point you get to.”
Adrien: “You can’t think like that. You can’t look that far ahead. Just worry about that first match, okay? And even if you win or lose, at least you can make some progress. I lost a lot early in my career. I still lose matches on occasion.”
Adam chuckles, knowing Adrien hasn’t lost since last year.
Adrien: “Just do me a favor, remember what’s important when you get back in there. Getting better, and making sure you make a statement. Whoever your first opponent is...you gotta focus on that match, okay?”
Adam: “About you and Stacy though…”
Adrien: “What are you going on about that whole thing for? You and Kenzie have been together a LOT longer than me and Stacy have. Hell, by our industry’s standards, you and Kenzie have been together FOREVER.”
Adam nervously looks at his own hands for a few minutes. He silently takes a deep breath before wiping his eyes. There was something he wasn’t telling Adrien, but Adrien was too focused on the road to notice it.
Adrien: “Just make sure you make it clear to Kenzie that she is the top priority in your life, even more than wrestling. Okay?”
Adam: “Yeah. Sure.”
Adrien: “You’re gonna be okay, Adam. I have a lot of faith in you. Even if it’s patient faith in you. You’re gonna do great things. Just you see. And I’m always going to be here if you need anything, okay?”
Adam: “Yeah. I appreciate that, Adrien. I really do.”
Some say we're better off without
Knowing what life is all about
I'm sure they'll never realize the way
It's too late
Somehow it's different everyday
In some ways it never fades away
Seems like it's never gonna change
I must be dreaming

“Well, my opponent decided to keep things a bit brief. So I won’t take too much of your time. He also didn’t seem like his heart is in this match. Which disappoints me. It really does. I don’t want an opponent who isn’t really trying. I want Johnny Maverick, the man who has won more World Titles than me! I want the man who is capable of beating ANYONE AND EVERYONE in any given match.
“Johnny, you are a talented individual. I hope to make sure you walk away from this match with a brand new perspective of that. Because that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to make you fight. I’m not just going to let you roll over and lose this match without getting the absolute best you can. You’re capable. You were in that match for a reason, Johnny. You are the man who brought us all the Jew Blazer. You’ve taught him how to be the champion he is.
“You’ve succeeded in this industry and should know better than to let a few losses get between you and the ultimate goal. You said it yourself, you SAW yourself winning that championship. Doesn’t mean you won’t. Just means it wasn’t time yet. You gotta get back up. You gotta keep fighting so that when that opportunity comes around again, you holding that championship will be more than just something you see...it will be something everyone who pays attention to Redemption Wrestling will see with their very own eyes.
“I know you’re better than this. And I will prove it. Once we step into the ring, I’m going to bring out the best Johnny Maverick you can be. Don’t worry about losing to Yujiro Fujiwara. He’s not your opponent anymore. Adrien Cochrane is. You’re facing the Dropkick King. And when this match is over, my goal isn’t to break you. My goal is to make sure you #Believe in not just my abilities, but yours as well. So let’s go out there and give them one hell of a match. Give ME one hell of a match, Johnny. I’ll see you soon.”
Think before you make up your mind
You don't seem to realize
I can do this on my own
Think before you make up your mind
You don't seem to realize
I can do this on my own
And if I fall I'll take it all
It's so easy after all
Believe me, it's alright
It's so easy after all
Believe me, it's alright
It's so easy after all
Believe me 'cause now's the time to try
Don't wait, the chance will pass you by
Time's up to figure it out
You can't say it's too late
