Aurora stood at the top of a short flight of stadium stairs, looking out over the arena. She was wearing a pair of black jeans and a tight-fitting red top, her hair tied back into a low ponytail. Down at ground level, the crew had just finished securing the apron to the ring, and others were beginning to set up chairs. Aurora turned around, heading into the skybox to take a seat behind the counter that separated the seats from the lounge area.
Aurora: Where is he?
There was a slight hiss in her voice as she looked at her watch. The time read 10 am. She impatiently drummed her fingers on the counter as her eyes narrowed, her gaze fixed on the door.
Aurora: I made the effort to get here early; the least he could do is show up on time....
The hydraulic door closer hissed as the door that led out into the hallway opened. Clad in a cheap-looking grey suit and a blue striped tie, Richard Kelly walked into the skybox with a cheesy, plastic smile on his face. Aurora looked at him with disdain, groaning as she turned her back to him.
Aurora: You’re late, Kelly.
Richard: Sorry, but I couldn’t find a place to park.
Aurora: I don’t have time for excuses. You were the one that requested this interview; the least you could do is actually show up on time.
Kelly scoffed, pulling up a chair beside the tattooed vixen, clearing his throat as he tried to put on a suave façade. Aurora was having none of it, sneering in disgust as she leaned against the counter, her elbow propping up her head as it rested against her hand to show that she was already bored out of her mind, and that he shouldn’t expect much in the way of patience.
Richard: I guess we should get down to business, then.
Aurora: About time....
She rolled her eyes as he smiled awkwardly.
Richard: Well, it certainly hasn’t been the best couple of weeks for Rebel Ink; what with the controversy involving the Tag Team Championships, which are currently in the hands of the Young Cubs. Now, I know you’ve already spoken on the matter; I was just wondering if you could elaborate on...
Aurora put her hand up in front of Richard Kelly’s face, immediately silencing him.
Aurora: Let me stop you right there. I’ve already said that I’m not going to discuss that matter anymore; not until tomorrow. Until then, you’re just going to have to wait like everyone else.
Richard: Alright, spoilsport...
The last word left his mouth in a barely-audible whisper, but Aurora could hear it as plain as day.
Aurora: Excuse me?
She glared hard at him, causing him to lean back slightly in his chair.
Richard: N-nothing... I didn’t say anything at all.
She narrowed her eyes, fully aware that he had just backpedaled.
Aurora: Right....
Richard cleared his throat, looking to get the interview back on the right track.
Richard: Anyway, we are a few hours away from Glory, where you’ll be taking on Kayla Richards. Nothing’s on the line tonight, but with you both having huge matches coming up at Convergence, whichever one of you that wins tonight could gain some much-needed momentum.
Aurora: Tell me something I don’t already know, Kelly. And yeah, for the time being, my primary focus is on the Tag Team Championships, but if that little skeezer Kayla thinks I’m stupid enough to look past her, then I guess tonight I’ll just have to remind her of who she’s dealing with. Despite what people may think, I’m definitely not opposed to a singles career. Hell, that’s what I was looking for when I first signed my contract with NGW. Fate had other ideas, but I’ve proven time and time again that I’m just as dangerous as a singles competitor as I am in tag team competition.
She turned away from him, looking out over the empty seats of the arena.
Richard: Do you think that – should you do decide to shoot for a singles career – your husband might become jealous?
Aurora’s ocean blue eyes turned back to focus on the interviewer’s face, staring at him through narrowed eyelids. Her upper lip curled up into a sneer, baring her teeth.
Aurora: You seem to be ignorant of history, Richard. Damon and I didn’t start out as a tag team. Our manager just thought it would be a good idea to throw us together. And yeah, she was right. Look at what we’ve accomplished over the last year and a half.
Richard: Four Tag Team Championships is rather impressive, but it’s a far cry from being on the level of say – the World Championship.
Aurora: And in every company I’ve wrestled for, I’ve pushed my way toward the top of the contenders’ rankings as well. But to answer your question – on second thought, I’m not going to answer that. Frankly, that’s something for my husband and I to discuss, not something for your gossip-hungry ass to pass around over social media.
Richard: Let me ask you this question, then. Which do you prefer? Tag team or singles competition?
Aurora: You seriously need to quit asking me these stupid questions. Of course I love teaming with my husband. But do I expect to do it until it’s time for me to retire? No. I want what every self-respecting wrestler worth the ink on their contract wants – to be a World Champion. I want to be recognized as the best that this company has to offer the sport of professional wrestling.
Richard: One would argue that Kayla Richards wants the same thing.
She scoffed.
Aurora: Well then good for her. It’s just too bad that this is one of those things where you don’t always get what you want. Say – for argument’s sake – that she actually does snag the Heavyweight Championship from Fujiwara at Convergence. Does she think her boy-toy will be content to stand back and let her sit on the top of the heap until she gets bored? I certainly don’t think so. Given the opportunity, he’d throw her under the bus quicker than you can blink. After all, he can’t legitimately call himself the “King of the Heavyweights” so long as someone ELSE has that title, even if it is his little sewer twat of a girlfriend.
Richard fought off a laugh, nearly choking on his own saliva to keep it from getting out. He quickly composed himself and moved onto his next question.
Richard: Which brings me to my next point. Why is it that you’re so quick to jump down Kayla Richards’ throat, but you’re so close with her sister Amber? Why embrace one, but despise the other?
Aurora: It’s simple, really. Amber and I have been through a similar kind of hell over the last few years, and we both did what we had to do to come out on the other side. To see her married to a man that legit loves her and doesn’t use her as a human punching bag, to see her about to welcome her third child into the world – I’m beyond proud of how far she’s come. Meanwhile, Kayla stands off on the sidelines and shits on her, saying it’s just an act. The way I see it, deep down, and as much as she refuses to admit it, she’s jealous of her sister. Amber was always the better wrestler, and now Amber has a better life than she does, and Kayla can’t fucking stand it. Hell, I’m far better off than Kayla will ever hope to be, for that matter. I own a successful business that will keep me going long after my wrestling career is over, I’ve got a beautiful new custom built home, and I’ve got an amazing, loving husband to share it with. As far as I’m concerned, my life is perfect!
Richard: So what do you think are your chances tonight at Glory?
Aurora: There are no guarantees in life, Richard. If you want something, you have to work for it. Kayla may have convinced herself that this is going to be an easy fight, but she’s about to be in for one hell of a rude awakening. I don’t bow down to anyone, least of all to nasty, self-serving cunts like her.
I’m sick and fucking tired of spoiled, entitled little skanks like her that think it’s all about them when all they’ve done is sleep their way into the spotlight. I don’t play that game. I may be more well-known as being a tag team wrestler, but unlike Kayla, I always fight my own battles.
Richard: Are you implying that Kayla Richards is going to need outside help?
Aurora: You can take that however you want, Richard. The fact is, I wouldn’t put it past her to have her cronies come out and try to pull their shit. After all, you know what she likes to say... “whatever Kayla wants, Kayla gets.” So why shouldn’t I put it past her to pull some sort of shenanigans? Now, do you actually have any DECENT questions to ask, or are you finally finished wasting my time?
Richard: I do have one final question. It’s actually in regards to the Steel Chain Match contract signing tonight....
Aurora: Look at me, Kelly. Do I look like I’m 6’7”, black hair, and a face that says “I’d just as soon put you through a wall as look at you”?
Richard shook his head.
Aurora: Yeah, I thought not. So if you want to hear any more about that, you should go ask Jason Perry. Although, because of the aforementioned face, it might just be better for your health if you didn’t.
Richard: I... I think I’ll just take your word for it.
Aurora: Hmph.
Aurora rolled her eyes as she got up to leave the room. As she reached the doorway, she paused, looking over her shoulder.
Aurora: Here’s a word of advice. The next time you’re going to interview me... make sure your ass is on time.
With that, Aurora pulled the door open, walking out into the hallway. Richard watched as the skybox door slowly shut behind her, the heels of her boots echoing in the hallway until they faded off into silence.
