(OOC: This is a crossover with Jazmyn's other fed as this features a segment I wrote with her in GCW's most recent show.)
Adversity: Part 2
Jazmyn Rain: Sometimes, we lose ourselves in our adversity. It overwhelms us to the point where on occasion, we act out of character and do things that we will regret later. I wholeheartedly admit that I have fallen into this trap many times. I used to be one of those people that would react with rage, sometimes a violent rage, to adversity that went against me. Fortunately, I have healed past the point where I do such a thing and over the last year, there have been quite a few times where I could have fallen back into old habits but was ultimately able to have the best resolve you can have in the situation. I know I am beating the GCW horse to death a little. Don’t worry, the longer I stay in Redemption the less I’ll need to, but thinking about the last year and all the adversity I’ve overcome? I’d be lying to you guys if I said that I overcome it before it brought me down.
Hell, I was once in a feud with someone who originally didn’t want me in GCW at all because of my prior issues. We’re on great terms now after we settled our differences, but boy did she really try to get to me by using my past to mock me and ridicule me while stating that I didn’t belong in GCW and I would never gain her respect. She beat me up pretty damn good a few times, but when it was all said and done, I managed to beat her and gain her respect and she gained mine as well. We’ve been on solid terms ever since. Up next came, for lack of a better term, a sociopathic monster that had wanted to bring the worst back out of me. She did everything and anything she could to torture me. She reopened old wounds, hell she even assaulted my boyfriend. She had tried so hard to get me to buckle and fall off the wagon so to speak, but I didn’t and I overcame her torture.
Could I have snapped and played into her nonsense? Of course I could have.
Hell, could I have given up on my own mission after falling short twice to get a world title shot earlier this year? No! I kept at it and I managed to gain my opportunity that I had in Montreal last weekend. I fell short due to circumstances that many fans were upset with and I was at a crossroads with adversity again. I knew that at one point or another, I would have to be face to face with the referee who missed my foot being on the rope, resulting in my loss. I could have snapped. I could have thrown a tantrum. Hell, I could have even beat up the referee.
But no…
In Houston on Saturday… I decided to handle this latest episode of adversity in a way that many would define a champion…
Date: August 19, 2017
Event: During GCW Livewire
[Livewire fades to ringside where the ring announcer is standing by. There’s an object nearby on a stand that has a black cover draped over it. Some fans are cheering in anticipation of what’s to come next.]
Ring Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome at this time…. The Guardian Angel… JAZMYN RAIN!
[The crowd erupts with deafening cheers as “Unstoppable” by Fireflight hits. These cheers grow louder still as Jazmyn appears through the curtains with a microphone already in her hand. Wearing a small, long-sleeved black dress with a pair of matching casual, knee-high boots, the Charlotte native walks down the ramp with a smile on her face as she greets some of the crowd along the way. She enters the ring with her microphone, but requests the one the ring announcer has. He gives it to her before leaving the ring and Jazmyn sets the microphone down by her feet. Once her song fades, the crowd just loses their minds. Her promo is delayed for a bit with the loud chants for her name and once they finally quiet down, she begins to speak.]
Jazmyn: Well, I’m sure quite popular tonight. I guess that means only one thing: I’m in front of a Southern crowd tonight!
[The crowd erupts with cheers as Jazmyn laughs and smiles.]
Jazmyn: But seriously, thank you to all of you for your undying support over the last week and I truly wish I could be standing in front of you with the Global Championship, but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be due to an unfortunate referee error.
Crowd: NOT OUR CHAMPION! NOT OUR CHAMPION!
[Jazmyn pauses, soaking in the obvious derogatory chants for Aphrodite Noel.]
Jazmyn: Now, I know most of you, if not all of you, aren’t fans of her and nor am I, but let’s be positive and let’s focus on the future! After all, I WILL have another chance at Survival of the Fittest, albeit in an elimination chamber with Vessey, Aphrodite and three others yet to be determined. Five obstacles along the way? Well, six if you include the chamber, but that’s fine. This will not deter me. Whether I am the first entry or the last entry, I am going to pull through. I am going to find a way to finally regain that Global Championship and complete that same journey that began on a cold, cruel night in St. Louis 17 months ago. But, I have to focus on tonight. I have a match later, but first, I would like to invite the referee from our match last week down to the ring.
[Jazmyn pauses and waits for a few moments before the referee, dressed in street clothes, comes out. The crowd promptly greets him with boos.]
Jazmyn: Guys, let’s not give him such a hard time. Please?
[The referee has a very guilty and remorseful look on his face as he enters the ring. Jazmyn picks up the microphone that she set by her feet and she hands it to him as he approaches her.]
Referee: Jazmyn… I blew it. I’m sincerely sorry for costing you the Global Championship last week. It was an honest mistake and I certainly had no intention of doing that to you, especially considering that journey you’ve been on since that title was stolen from you to begin with.
Jazmyn: Don’t be so hard on yourself! You didn’t cost me anything. Even if you saw my foot on the rope, it’s no guarantee I would have won anyway. Maybe the outcome remains the same, we will never know. But, I just wanted you to know that I hold no ill will toward you for making that mistake. If there is ANYONE on this roster that knows what it’s like to make mistakes, it’s me because holy crap, I made so many of them during my Global Championship run.
Referee: I didn’t make it any better when I was telling you that you were wrong after the fact.
Jazmyn: It’s fine! Nobody’s perfect. We all make mistakes. I forgive you for it and I know deep down in their hearts, these people are going to forgive you for it if they haven’t already, am I right, Houston?
[The crowd erupts with huge cheers.]
Referee: Thanks… but damn… that was my last night in GCW too! I’m starting a new career on Monday and For Glory and Gold was my last working event. Last night, last match… and I blew it. I’ve been involved with the business doing what I do in this ring as a referee for 10 years! I was just a 21 year old kid when I started doing it and never, not once, did I make such a terrible mistake. That is not the way I wanted my career as a referee, and this business, to end.
[The guilt on his face continues to be prevalent as Jazmyn is definitely looking sympathetic.]
Jazmyn: What if I told you that it doesn’t have to end like that?
Referee: Unless I referee another match before I go, that’s it. But, I’ve used up all my dates. I’m finished. I wasn’t even supposed to be here tonight before Francis called me here.
Jazmyn: That’s because I wanted you to be here. I know that For Glory and Gold was your last night and I don’t want you to leave this business with such a sour taste in your mouth. Here, I want to show you something…
[Jazmyn walks toward the mystery case that’s covered by the black cloth.]
Jazmyn: From what I’ve heard, your little girl… how old is she? Seven? Eight?
Referee: She’s eight, and she’s a HUGE fan of yours. She’s been wanting me to buy your merchandise for an eternity but as a working referee, I couldn’t. Conflict of interest, you know?
Jazmyn: I’m aware. But listen, I wanted you out here tonight to tell you not only that I have no ill will toward you for what happened, but to wish you the best of luck with everything now that you’re going to be leaving the wrestling business so as a token of my gratitude for all you’ve given to this business, and as a token of forgiveness, I want to present you with this…
[Jazmyn pulls off the black cover, revealing a brand new Jazmyn Rain action figure with her autograph right on the box.]
Jazmyn: You take that home to your daughter and watch her eyes light up with joy and you knock your new career right out of the ballpark!
[The fans cheer Jazmyn’s gracious gesture of sportsmanship as Jazmyn and the referee shake hands and give each other a quick hug.]
Referee: Thank you, Jazmyn and best of luck to you!
Jazmyn: Likewise!
[Jazmyn hands the referee the action figure and with a bright memory to close things out for his career, he walks out of the ring and walks up the ramp with it, leaving Jazmyn alone to celebrate with the fans.]
Jazmyn: You see? You can take a negative situation like what happened last week and you can turn it into a positive! I promise you all, I am going to keep growing from this and at Survival of the Fittest, somehow… someway… I will become Global Champion again!
[Jazmyn drops the microphone and her music hits again as the fans erupt in deafening cheers again. She acknowledges the crowd for a bit before she leaves the ring and heads up the ramp. She draws nothing but praise from the commentary team for her incredible display of sportsmanship and poise throughout what would have been a heartbreaking situation for any other wrestler. They note that Jazmyn has shown incredible growth and maturity since she lost the Global Championship to begin with and speculate on how much it could help her in the elimination chamber as she walks through the curtains, the crowd cheering her all the way.]
Closing Thoughts
Jazmyn Rain: As the night wore on, I realized, and my father would later remind me of this, how much I have grown in the last year. In fact, this very day marks one exact year since I faced a big trial in my life and career when I fell short in a seven stages of hell match after coming back from a three falls to none deficit to close the gap only to lose that seventh fall in heartbreaking fashion. It was an instance of adversity I DIDN’T react so well to and it ultimately led to my health cratering and having a brief scrape with death for a couple of minutes. Still, what I just described was just the beginning of what I’ve become now. I don’t know for sure what’s in store for me when I face Caroline O’Hara Burchill. As I’ve stated before, she’s going to be very tough. But as we get closer to match time, my nervousness dissipates. What’s the worst that can happen? She beats me? If that’s how the dominoes fall, based on how I’ve handled adversity in the past year, I know I’ll be able to work through it just like I have before. But tonight, I’m focused on overcoming said adversity by beating her. Easier said than done, but I know deep in my heart how capable I am of doing so!
