“I wonder if anyone questions my heart now?”
Alex sits indian style in the center of the ring. An old beaten up on in a warehouse in upstate New York. The Wolfslair training facility he co-owns. A small smirk comes across his lips.
“Two weeks ago, as we led up to the One night only event in memphis I had to listen to Jack Tillman, a very talented young man take the respect I had given him, throw it on the ground, cock his leg...and piss on it. He questioned my heart and if I was still worthy of being called a professional wrestler. See if there’s one thing I have discovered about Jack Tillman it’s that he’s obsessed with labels and names. He walks around with his chest puffed out calling people “sports entertainers”. He passes judgement on others because he believes himself to be one of the best in the world and after getting in the ring with him I can’t disagree that he has talent…”
“But his greatest talent isn’t even his own or anything of his own doing. His manager is an asset. See I took my eye off the ball and I should know better. But that split second where I turned to go after Chris Constantine was just enough for Tillman to take advantage and hit me with the Martyr. Then three seconds later it was over. I was out like a light and Tillman gets to raise his hand in victory. But what did you really win Jack?....you say you’re professional wrestler but truth be told I don’t think you know the meaning behind the label….”
“But Jack is in my rearview right now cause at Glory I get to go to war against three of the biggest names in this company. The Current Redemption Heavyweight Champion Yujiro Fujiwara, the young lions champion CODA and of course the arrogant, self righteous, loudmouth former champion Matt Shields. First off let me say that getting in the ring with a guy like Yujiro is always going to be a great honor. Yujiro is the kind of guy that you get in the ring with and you know it’s going to be a war….”
“And Yujiro has held that championship with respect and has shown himself to be a worthy champion. And a fighting champion already as he took down Johnny Maverick at one night only and personally, Yujiro I really hope you beat that little skank Kayla Richards. See if she wins and gets to hold that championship, she’ll be loud, obnoxious and insufferable….”
“Well...even more insufferable….”
“Now even though it is every competitor for themselves out there I will be kind of watching your back. I don’t want CODA or Shields thinking they can sneak up on you and take you out before Kayla gets her hands on you. I want that Main event to be an equal contest, not one that has been corrupted cause CODA and Shields were able to injure you in some way. But at the same time if I have a chance to get a pin over you or get you to tap, you better damn well believe I’ll take it….”
Alex shoots an arrogant little grin before stands up and walking around the ring in workout gear. His long hair out and loose as he leans across the top rope.
“Just like I would on little miss strong style. Coda. You know you have been one of the most impressive parts of my time in redemption and even before that. See I watched this company closely as all the contract stuff was ironed out and I couldn’t believe what I saw when you got in the ring with Mason Moore. I mean Mason is this huge muscle bound monster and you went to war with him. You and he beat the living hell out of one another and week in week out you go about your business. You step between those ropes and you go about your business, you’re a little ball of violence and I kind of dig it….”
“But what I can’t understand is why you threw your hat in with the likes of Kayla and Shields. Coda I’m not here to be your conscience or tell you what to do but trust me on this. The second you become an inconvenience or question things they will get rid of you, and that family you thought you had will disappear and you’ll be alone...the only question is how much damage will they do before that happens?....”
Alex shrugs and shakes his head.
“And of course that brings me to the head of the snake. The leader of “the destroyers” Matthew Shields. The Monarch of the mat the blah blah blah I don’t have time to recite all fifty of your little game of thrones rip off nicknames. This will be the second time you and I step in the ring together. The first time it was pretty clear what was going to happen wasn’t it Matt?. See you and I got between those ropes and you, well, you thought that you were going to steamroll over me. You made it a point to say you weren’t going to overlook me or underestimate me but I know that is exactly what you did…..”
“It’s why you needed Kayla and Coda to interfere on your behalf cause you saw it and felt it. I was better. And that’s the thing Matthew, as good as you’ve been as great as your title reign was you brought all these eyes onto Redemption and made people want to work here. Guys like me and Cochrane. Real threats who are better than you. Hell even your little girlfriend sat by and waited till her contract was approved then she came in and could in theory eclipse you by beating the guy you FAILED to beat. I mean Yujiro is a great champion and who knows he could walk out of convergence with that championship but at the same time you know how vicious Kayla can be….”
“So tell me Matt how are you going to take it if Kayla wins that title?. Will you smile and be happy for her?. Or will you immediately ask her for a shot?. And what if Kayla should fail?. Will you be disappointed or secretly happy that you didn’t get upstaged by her?....”
“Who knows with you right?. All I do know is that Sunday night I’m going to be in the ring with three other people but the one person I am going to be looking for is you….cause I really really want to take your goddamn head off….”
