“See, the funny thing about being successful and someone who doesn’t submit to those who want to just push everyone around, you end up getting a lot of targets on your back. It’s fine. I’ve come to expect it these days. I can’t do a whole lot without my name being in someone’s mouth, but it comes with the territory. And you know, I’d rather have people tweeting that they want to kick me in the face because I’m winning matches and being a thorn in their side rather than be a nobody that wasn’t on any radar whatsoever.”
Adrien Cochrane stands in front of the now empty stage that hosted the charity event that had taken place earlier in the evening, featuring appearances from Josh Kennedy, Alechs Aurelio, and Honey Smith...all while being hosted by his girlfriend, Stacy Sterling.
“So the fact that someone along the lines of Becky Balfour wants to harass me constantly on social media with streams and tweets that I don’t have the nerve to show up to an event of hers, it’s something that happened because of what I’ve done in this industry. Success can do that to you. When two former friends of mine want to subtweet me, usually parodying my trademark almost nightly, it’s because they want to make sure they get my attention, even if I miss them half the time. Success can do that too.
“When Kayla Richards has to mention in several tweets that she wants to kick me in the face...sorta like I did to her when we were in the ring two weeks ago...it’s because it is eating her up on the inside that the Destroyers were bested by me and Honey. Success can do that as well.
“And when Matthew Shields wants to make comments about how I decided to help out Honey on a show where he didn’t even show up, it makes me realize that I’ve agitated him to a point where he just HAS to make sure he twists around events to make sure he tries to throw some dirt on my name. Because my name scares the living hell out of him, something he will never admit to. Because of the success that I have had...
“I’m not asking anyone to feel sorry for me. Like I said, I’d rather be in this situation than the other way around. Sure, it’s great to have allies and all. I appreciate the hell out of people like Yujiro Fujiwara, Josh Kennedy, Jew Blazer, the Young Cubs, and of course, Stacy Sterling. It’s great having friends like Blair and Aurora in that locker room. But I know that if I’m going to do anything worthwhile in this industry, I’m going to get some guns pointed at me. So bring on the hate, Shieldsy. Bring on the Twitter threats, Kayla. Tell me how you will beat me, Coda. I’m prepared for EVERYTHING YOU GOT!!”
The three-time World Heavyweight Champion smiles once more as he looks back into the camera, looking particularly excited about the match coming up tomorrow night.
“We are literally twenty-four hours away from the Destroyers getting their, pun totally intended, Redemption from their loss last show. They take on me and Yujiro Fujiwara, the man who ended Matthew Shields’s reign atop the championship picture. With all due respect to Honey, this is an upgrade to last show. So if Kayla and Coda couldn’t defeat the team I was on last time, how in the blue hell do they expect to win this time around?
“I mean, yeah, any given Sunday and all of that mess. But Kayla’s point of view is that she is flat out better than me in every sense of the word. But she lost. She believes I am nothing more than a fly for the most part. And you know what? It doesn’t matter. All the words the Destroyers can throw at me means literally nothing because they don’t match up with their actions. So until one of them pin me or make me submit, I will laugh every time any of them stating that I’m not worth the hype. If you want to do something about it, try actually beating me.
“Coda, thankfully, doesn’t have that attitude about her. She is willing to see that I’m not some sort of pushover. She thinks I’m fighting the wrong fight and am wasting my energy, but we can agree to disagree. My goal might be to silence Kayla Richards, but my goal with Coda is more of a test of strength. I want to show her what I can do. She wants to show me what she can do. I love a good test of strength with a clearly talented individual. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Coda’s loyalty to Shields and Richards, she’d probably be an ally I’d be trying to make. But we don’t live in such a world so I will just have to settle for proving myself to her in the squared circle and hoping that I can, at the very least, earn her respect.
“Coda asked something in her last video. She asked me to not have Stacy Sterling on standby in case of the event of an attack or interference. Coda, I respect you a whole lot so I’m going to be completely honest and completely blunt with you. No. I’m not an idiot. Asking such a request of me, in all honesty, suggests that I am an idiot, which I’m pretty sure your partners are snickering somewhere stating they believe that I am one. They can think what they want; it doesn’t matter to me. You’ve told me once before that your partners don’t always do what you want them. You have told me you have no control over them. I’m sorry, but I do not trust your friends. So yes, I will have a backup plan once again. If nothing happens, Stacy will stay put and do nothing. You have nothing to worry about if we end up having nothing to worry about.
“I don’t want you worrying about what happens in the event of interference though, Coda. What I want from you is the absolute best that you can give me. I am too old for the Young Lions division but I want to see EVERYTHING that Coda, the future of this entire company, has to offer. Show me your strength. Show me your skill. Show me your talent. And most of all, Coda, show me that you BELIEVE in your abilities and make me BELIEVE that you are the woman everyone should be scared to be in the ring with. People like your partner, people will write songs about girls like her that fizz out after the anger suffices. But you, Coda, have the ability to be greater than that. You can be a legend if you play your cards right. Think you can? Show me.”
