***** OFF CAMERA *****
“Hmmm, not a bad set up”
Matt Shields looked around at the modest sized arena. He figured the place could probably hold about a thousand people with the set up they had. Simple metal rails were set up all around between the fans and the ringside area. The ring itself was a simple sixteen by sixteen, plain light grey canvas, black ring aprons with a few sponsor logos on either side of the company logo. Ropes were a nice red, white, and blue color scheme. He nodded as he found the three VIP seats right in the front row. The first three rows were nice padded black folding chairs, with the rest being basic black folding chairs. He took the middle seat as kayla sat to the right of head him, while Tasmin sat to the left. After the national anthem played, an older man in a simple navy suit and white shirt got inside the ring with a microphone.
“Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to Southern Star Wrestling. It is great to be here tonight in our home, Fort Worth Texas.”
The crowd roars their approval as Matt looks around at them and shakes his head a bit.
“Now, we have got one hell of a show for you tonight. In our main event, the Southern Heavyweight champion, Hank The Tank Murdoch, will defend against Kyle Kross. We also have the Southern Star Tag team champions, The Texas Troopers in action, as well as Jason Hunter, Kevin Storm, and the one and only Texas Legend The Lone Rider.”
The crowd cheers once more and a few signs are held up for a few of the wrestlers mentioned.
“First up though, we Rising Star title action. Introducing first, he weighs in at three hundred pounds, hailing from The nearest Taco Bell, he is, El Nacho Grande”
‘Sexy and I Know It’ begins to play as everyone gets up to their feet and starts cheering. After a few seconds, a very large man in a black singlet dotted with bright yellow spots that look like cheese, walks out. He high fives some fans as he struts down to the ring.
“Oh dear God, this can’t be happening right now.”
Matt shakes his head, then looks over at Tasmin who seems to be enjoying the antics of the large man. She bops her head to the song and hums smiling at Matt.
“Why are you such a stick in the mud!...this is awesome!....he has charisma!”
“He’s a big fat guy, dancing around and calling himself Nacho.”
“His opponent, the Rising Star champion, weighing in at two hundred and seventeen pounds, From Detroit Michigan, Derek Gunn.”
‘Unforgettable’ starts to play as a fairly tall well built young black man bursts through the curtain. He raises the title high as he messes with a few fans on his way down to the ring. He goes to get in the ring, then stops, looks at his opponent and just laughs for a little bit.
“See, I’m not the only one who can’t take this guy seriously.”
“I thought all this was supposed to be fun Matty….”
Tasmin pauses and leans over.
“Besides we can’t all hit our heads while violently humping our fiance’s and think we’re kings can we?”
She winks sarcastically and sits back to watch the action.
“I’m here to see if there’s anyone worthy of my time. Maybe find a… protege if you will.”
Matt looks over at Tasmin as the bell rings. Nacho gets the upper hand early with his size and some comedic antics, but a well placed thumb to the eye and a chop block puts him down. Gunn works over the legs of the big man for a bit, showing some decent skills, but Matt doesn’t seem incredibly impressed.Nacho has a few moments and looks like he could come back after a massive lariat that actually draws attention from Matt. Unfortunately he misses a second rope frog splash after playing to the crowd to much, Gunn hits an impaler DDT and gets the three.
“Being fun and having a bit of charisma don’t mean anything if you’re stupid. Take note of that Tasmin.”
“Yes sir”
She takes out her phone and goes about playing around on it before looking up occasionally to see the action wincing at some of the moves and hits as they echoed out causing the rest of the crowd to make noises. Tasmin looked over at Matt and sighed.
“You really think you’re going to find someone here?. Besides you already have a protege….me….”
“That’s not set in stone.”
Matt watches the end of the third match and still doesn’t look to impressed.
“Ladies and Gentleman, it’s time for our next match. Introducing first, he weighs in at two hundred and five pounds, from Forth Worth Texas, He is Jason Hunter!”
For the first time in the night, the lights dim slightly. Dark green lights aim at the curtain as ‘Like A Nightmare’ begins to play. Out walks a lean long haired young man with an incredibly determined look on his face. He sports a black sleeve on his right arm, black trunks with simple dark green stripes on each side. On the back HUNTER is printed in army style lettering with the same coloring. Black knee pads and boots complete it, and he notices a deer skull with what looks like two arrows behind it.
“Nice take on the skull and crossbones, play up the last name. Smart kid.”
Matt doesn’t even notice the name of his opponent as he watches Hunter. As soon as the bell rings, Hunter attacks driving a knee into the gut of his opponent.
“Very smart kid.”
Tasmin looks up from her phone, her eyes catching Jason as she sits up and puts it down, her eyes locked on him as he moves around the ring controlling his opponent, she smiles happily as her cheeks turn red clearing her throat to speak.
“Um, Matt don’t you think he’d be a good addition?. He seems tough and smart and...um...I...he…”
She trails off tilting her head before snapping out of it.
“He seems like he has potential...which is what you want right?”
”He does. I want to see if he can get the job done though.”
Matt leans in to watch closer. A neckbreaker attempt is countered, and Hunter’s opponent hits a big boot that takes him down. There’s the cover, but Hunter kicks out at 2. His opponent sets him up for something, but Hunter counters out, delivers a hard kick to the leg and hits a perfect shining wizard. Hunter looks down, then scales the top rope and flies off with a corkscrew senton. He lands and hooks the leg right into the cover, scoring himself the three count.
“Very Impressive. He does have potential Tasmin. What do you think babe?”
Matt looks over at Kayla who has been surprisingly quiet most of the night.
“He seems to have talent….”
She replied rather flatly instead studying Tasmin who couldn’t take her eyes off him. Kayla rolled her eyes and looked back at Matt.
“Honestly the rest of them that have wasted our time tonight have just been that...wastes. At least this Jason Hunter seems to have something, he can be trained, taught and made into something….but in the end it’s your decision babe….you’re the one who will have to train him…”
“There’s definite potential, and that attack right as the bell rang, shows some intelligence and that killer instinct. That’s not something that can be taught. Brought out, yes, but not taught.”
Matt thinks for a few seconds as he watches the young man have his hand raised in the middle of the ring. His opponent rolls to the outside and suddenly Hunter rips his hand from the ref, jumps outside, pulls him up, slams his head into the ring post, and then right in front of Matt, Kayla and Tasmin, he yanks his opponent up by the hair, then drives him down on to the hard concrete floor with a pumphandle half nelson driver. Hunter gets up, snatches the mic from the announcer and looks out at the booing crowd.
“I warned you what would happen Steve. I told you that if I didn’t get my shot at the Southern Heavyweight title, I would take out yet another member of your roster. This is the third man’s career that is on your heads. Do what is right. Next show, me against Murdoch or Kross, I don’t care who.”
Hunter tosses the mic back in the ring, then walks off to a chorus of boos.
“That’s the guy.”
Matt nods his head as a smirk creeps across his face.
“Yes he is…”
Tasmin purrs under her breath as Kayla shoots an angry look at her younger sister before shaking her head and looking up at Matt.
“Well, give him the offer, if he’s smart he’ll accept and learn under you, if he isn’t no harm no foul and we find someone else...but right now I have to get her out of her...she looks like she’s in bloody heat…”
Kayla stands up grabbing Tasmin by the hand pulling her from her seat and down the stairs. Matt laughs a bit as Kayla pulls Tasmin away, and he heads towards the back to see if he can get a word with the impressive angry young man.
