First Flight (FLASHBACK)
Opening Thoughts
Jazmyn: March 24, 2016. St. Louis, Missouri. I’m no longer ashamed of this night, but without question, it was the absolute worst night of my career. It was night one of Resurrection weekend, and Resurrection happens to be GCW’s biggest spectacle of the year. I was front and center in the main event as the GCW Global Champion defending against Trenton Snow, a man that had done nothing but consistently torture me for months upon months and I had yet to beat him in a one on one match. On GCW’s grandest stage, I had one huge opportunity to finally silence him and prove him wrong.
I failed.
It wasn’t for a lack of trying. I was betrayed by Jefferson Bentley, a man that I had romantic feelings for at the time, and Myra Lynwood, the woman that trained me to be a professional wrestler six years prior. Heartbreaking. Just plain heartbreaking. It was rock bottom for me. Something that meant so much to me, robbed by the cruelest of circumstances and my psychological issues reached their worst a short while after that to the point where I was about to lose my job. I had two choices: seek therapy for my issues, or lose my job. And so, I began to rebuild. I defeated Jefferson in a Ring of Fire match with my freedom on the line. I took on Myra Lynwood and her “utopia” week after week while I sought to discover my true potential as a wrestler and a human being. In August, I’d lose to Myra in a seven stages of hell match after rallying from a 3-0 deficit, losing the seventh stage, an I Quit match, without even quitting.
Heartbreak. Again.
But when I woke up in the hospital, it came to me. I realized my destiny and my purpose in this world was to inspire others with everything I had overcome to get to where I am today. On September 2nd, the “Guardian Angel” rose from the ashes of my past. I stood up to Myra and stood up to her like a winner and champion, even though she had beaten me. It would take four more weeks for me to have a clean bill of health to wrestle again. And so, on September 30, I returned to the ring. And my opponent that night in my first match as the Guardian Angel?
Trenton Snow.
Would that night in Albuquerque finally be the night I exorcised my demon?
Prologue
Date: September 30, 2017
A few short hours before the fateful episode of GCW Livewire in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jazmyn is having lunch with her three half-siblings at a Mexican restaurant nearby. With her sister Rebecca sitting next to her, Jazmyn looks across the table at her two brothers: Victor and Hector, and notices that they’re focused on their food more than anything else. Turning to her left, she notices Rebecca doing the same. Jazmyn flips the ponytail she’s sporting off of her shoulder clearing her white, sleeveless top from any hair. There’s some nervous tension in the restaurant and she knows it considering nobody has even said a word in this conversation so far. Nervous, yet confident, Jazmyn breaks the ice.
Jazmyn: So, how about the big match tonight?
Her half-siblings immediately stop what they’re doing and they look at her. Jazmyn can sense the nervous fear in their eyes.
Hector: Yeah… I was hoping we wouldn’t talk about that. It’s not that we don’t believe you can beat Trenton, it’s just…
Victor: He’s the one that put you in rock bottom to begin with…
Rebecca: With help from two others though… to be fair…
Jazmyn smiles for a split second, soaking in the understandable concern from her siblings.
Jazmyn: You guys, that was six months ago. I’m a completely different person now. The situation is different. You all know I HAVE to do this, not just for me, not just for us, but for GCW and all professional wrestling because Trenton is the most ungrateful leech I have ever known in this business. He has no shame in not giving a damn about this. He only cares about the paychecks. He was the Global Champion until just about a month ago and it STILL wasn’t good enough for him because all he did was complain and whine about not getting enough attention when all he ever did was show up whenever he felt like it and put next to no effort in being a champion. He was champion in name and possession only and now he wants to leave GCW because they “never appreciated him”? I’m not going to stand for it. That’s why I made that challenge to him two weeks ago.
Hector: But that’s the thing, it NEVER goes well when you step into the ring with him. Something always goes wrong. Either he cheats or someone interferes to screw you over…
Victor: Or you lose your confidence somewhere along the way and basically hand him a win…
Rebecca: But why do you want to stand up for GCW so much? Aren’t they partially responsible for what happened to you before? Isn’t wrestling what drove you to drugs to begin with?
Jazmyn: It wasn’t wrestling, it was my own demons. GCW has done everything for me. They could have fired me. They could have stripped me of the title while I had it because my psychological demons were overwhelming at times. But they didn’t do any of that! They helped me pull through my demons. They saved my life by mandating therapy. And plus, after two years out of the business recovering from my drug abuse, they were the one company that gave me a chance. They’ve done so many favors for me along the way and it’s time I return some of those favors starting tonight when I overcome the biggest demon of my GCW career and rid the company of one of the biggest cancers it’s ever had. I understand your concern for me but…
Jazmyn pauses to take a deep breath, reflecting on the journey she’s had to go through to get to this point. She maintains a grim determination on her face as she looks at all of her siblings with much passion and fury in her eyes. Her half-brothers raise their eyebrows sensing how serious and determined Jazmyn is about this and Rebecca looks astonished realizing that this isn’t the sister she’s known before.
Jazmyn: ...I’m going to do this. I’m going to give back to GCW, give back to this business. I will do my very best to get that Global Championship back along the way too, but there are far too many tyrants, leeches, demons, and darn near every other evil you can think of in this business that needs someone to fight them. I will take on that mantle in GCW and protect its sanctity from people like Trenton and I’m either going to defeat them all, or I am going to die trying but I’m going into Livewire tonight, facing a very fitting and very tough first test in Trenton and I’m going to be there with my spirit stronger than ever. Being trapped in a straitjacket while being zapped by a taser didn’t kill me. A cardiac arrest shortly afterward didn’t either.
Jazmyn pauses as her siblings flinch at the mention of the cardiac arrest she suffered that would have either killed or disabled her if it wasn’t for what can only be described as a medical miracle.
Jazmyn: I survived everything for a purpose and I know that purpose now.
Hector: But…
Jazmyn: No “but", Hector.
Victor: Trenton has broken your spirit before and he did it six months ago in the worst way.
Jazmyn: He’s not going to do it again. I didn’t overcome so much over the last six months and nourish my spirit as much as I did, I didn’t grow as strong as I am now, to lose to him again.
Rebecca: But what if he....
Jazmyn: Can you three have some faith in me? Please? That’s all I ask from you guys!
Jazmyn’s eyes narrow in annoyance.
Jazmyn: I’m not entertaining the thought of losing to him again because it’s NOT happening! If you three don’t want to believe in your own blood, fine. But I believe in me! I got so many people in GCW that believe in me! This match means the world to me, you know that. It’s six months in the making and I’ve come such a long way. Tonight begins a brand new journey for me and if you haven’t been inspired by my endurance through hard times before, you will be after tonight. That’s not a guarantee, that’s a promise! Rock bottom has come and gone! It’s only getting better from here. So, are you guys going to be with me or not?
Silence reigns in the air for a bit as the tension starts to fizzle. Rebecca wraps her right arm around Jazmyn, locking her in a half-embrace while she takes a deep breath.
Rebecca: I’m with you!
Hector extends his fist toward the middle of the table and Rebecca follows suit instantly.
Hector: I’m with you too.
Victor joins fists with his siblings and nods his head.
Victor: As am I!
Jazmyn smiles again, touched by the support. She puts her fist in the middle joining hands with her three half-siblings.
Jazmyn: Thank you! You have no idea how much that means to me.
Rebecca: Go slay that demon, Guardian Angel!
Hector & Victor: Amen!
The four pull back their fists as the atmosphere has now become lighthearted and happy.
Jazmyn: Destiny is on my side tonight!
With these last words, the four finish their lunch. Jazmyn is both confident and happy knowing that she’s on the same page with her siblings again.
Jazmyn (voice over): As the hours, minutes and seconds ticked away toward Livewire, I knew in my heart, soul and spirit that I was going to beat Trenton. I was determined and I was ready. My nerves were stable and when I arrived in my locker room that night and changed into my wrestling gear, I looked into the mirror and I smiled. I told myself “you are going to win” and when the time came, I stepped through those curtains, I soaked in the deafening cheers of the crowd and I glared at Trenton right in the eye. When that bell rang, the time had come for me to slay my demon and eliminate GCW of a horrendous evil!
The end of the match…
Toward the end of the match, Trenton drops Jazmyn with a downward lariat! Trenton would make the cover, but all he got was two. Trenton slammed the mat in frustration, as he lifted Jazmyn up in a crucifix position. Trenton was about to go for the Winter Solstice… a crucifix cutter.. but she slid out of it. Trenton turned around and Jazmyn jumped and connected with a tilt-o-whirl headscissors! Trenton bounced off the ropes and back toward Jazmyn, who grabbed him by the head, bounced off the ropes and… RAIN DROP!!! The fans went completely insane when Jazmyn hit the springboard bulldog! Jazmyn turned Trenton over for the cover but NO, Trenton kicked out. Jazmyn remained calm though, standing and stepping through the ropes, thinking Rain Splash. But before she can do anything, she noticed Trenton was starting to stir. When Trenton stood, Jazmyn improvised and connected with a springboard cross body. The fans were cheering louder and louder for Jazmyn and the joint was deafening. Jazmyn fed off this crowd’s energy as she stood up. She went for the top rope, and got there. Trenton got up. Jazmyn went for a senton from the top, but no, Trenton caught her in midair! Trenton hit a powerbomb as a sick counter and the crowd hushed for a bit, though they were still loud. Both stood up slowly, and one more back and forth fistfight commenced. The crowd noise for Jazmyn was still deafening. But then, Trenton booted her in the gut and then ran across the ring and nailed her right in the head with a vicious running big boot! Jazmyn went down, but Trenton wouldn’t let her stay down for long as he set her up. The crowd was still making some noise even as Trenton lifted her up in that familiar crucifix position. WINTER SOLSTICE CONNECTS as the crowd instantly died. Trenton smirked at this, knowing he just silenced the crowd and once again, was going to beat Jazmyn with the same move that befell her so many times as he made the academic cover…

...and Jazmyn KICKED OUT!!!
The crowd exploded with cheers! Trenton’s eyes were wide eyed for a bit in stunned disbelief. That expression didn’t last long as he stood up and picked up Jazmyn off the mat. He set her up for another Winter Solstice, but Jazmyn slid out of the move, landing right in front of Trenton before he could get her in the air. Jazmyn gave Trenton a look of determination in her eyes. Trenton went for a lariat in response, but Jazmyn ducked it. Trenton turned around right into a spinning heel kick to the gut. Trenton doubled over as Jazmyn grabbed his head again. Jazmyn connected a second time with the RAIN DROP! Like their last encounter, Jazmyn didn’t cover right away and decided to step through the ropes, with the Rain Splash on her mind. Unlike Resurrection, she managed to slingshot herself into the ring this time… and nailed the springboard 450 splash with perfect precision, right into a cover as she hooked the leg!

Ring Announcer: The winner of this match… Jazmyn Rain!!!
Jazmyn (voice over): When that bell rang, when “Unbreakable” by Fireflight started playing, when my fans started cheering, when I stood up and got my hand raised by the referee, the feeling was amazing! I couldn’t stop smiling. I was overcome with joy that I finally slayed my demon. I celebrated with the people for a bit and then when I went to the back, I soaked it all in. With all the pride and joy in the world, I knew that I not only turned around the rock bottom of my entire wrestling career, but I rid GCW of one of its biggest cancers of the time.
The Guardian Angel has been spreading her wings and flying ever since…
Epilogue
After the show’s conclusion, Jazmyn, still in her wrestling gear, greeted her family in the parking lot. Jazmyn first hugged Victor and she smiled wider than ever!
Victor: That was amazing!
Jazmyn: Thank you!
After a few seconds, she let go of Victor and she exchanged a hug with Hector.
Hector: Congratulations! You finally overcame him! I bet you’re experiencing the greatest feeling in the world right now.
Jazmyn takes a deep happy breath as she and Hector let go of each other.
Jazmyn: Next to winning the Global title, I am.
Victor: You showed such class too, saying good things about him afterward despite the way he treated you.
Hector: Yeah. Apparently it was “all an act” and he’s not that big of a douchebag after all.
Rebecca: Well, I don’t believe it for a second. Come here, Jazmyn…
Jazmyn and Rebecca exchange a passionate hug.
Rebecca: You inspired us all tonight! The best part is that this is only the beginning.
Jazmyn can’t contain her emotion much longer as tears of joy stream down her face as soon as they let each other go, revealing how much that win meant to her when you consider the hell she went through in the six months prior. She smiles and chuckles as she wipes these tears of joy away.
Jazmyn: Thank you all!
Hector: So you really think Trenton is faking the whole “I’m not a bad guy, I just played the part” thing is just nonsense?
Rebecca: *scoffs* Yeah…
Jazmyn: Hey, let’s not worry about that. He’s gone. Let’s all go celebrate!
Jazmyn leads her siblings back inside the arena and lets them celebrate in the catering area while she cleans up and changes out of her wrestling gear. It wouldn’t be too long before she joined them and the celebration that ensued put the icing on the cake for one of the brightest, most incredible nights of Jazmyn’s career.
Closing Thoughts
Jazmyn: Turns out, Rebecca was right. After being humble for a short time, Trenton reverted back to being the asshole he always was. But all in all, it didn’t take away the significance of my win over him on September 30 of last year. That night will always hold true as the first chapter of my career as the “Guardian Angel” and the first chapter of my redemption. Personally?
I couldn’t have written a better first chapter myself!
