Offices of Walker and Cunningham INC
I sat back in the hardwood chair, the back rubbing against my already sore muscles, I twitched catching the edge of the wood under my shoulder blades, a deep sigh coming from my body as I waited for whatever stuffy old man I’ve be stuck dealing with. I couldn’t help but look around the office, I admired the finer things, the artwork, the decor...even the desk.
I ran my fingers along the wood, the polished grain was smooth and still had a shine to it. It had obviously been retouched and refurbished. I couldn’t help but nod in appreciation and impression. I heard the door behind me open and I got to my feet and turned holding out my hand. “Mr Walk….er….”
My jaw dropped. Instead of a stuffy old man in a suit and tie dripping with age and regret stood a beautiful young women. Her hair flowing down her face and shoulders. She was dressed in a beautiful white dress, classy, fitting and still sexy. My eyes trailed up and down her body and then to her face, my eyes locked onto hers and the entire room seemed to fade away and all that was left was us.
“Mr Jones?” Her voice snapped me out of it and I smiled awkwardly, my usual arrogant smirk and cocky bravado melted away I laughed and gave her a nod “I’m sorry….Mrs Walker?...”
She smiled back politely, her face lighting up as she took my hand and shook it. “Miss Walker...Sonja Walker...please sit…” She walked around the table and sat down putting a few files in front of her humming, her steely blue eyes shining at me as she sat, she grabbed a pair of black rimmed reading glasses popping them on as she looked over a few things.
“Interesting read?” I piped up with a grin, I knew I looked like an idiot and part of me didn’t care. Sonja looked up and then away trying not to laugh. “Well, your finances are a mess, and your investments are all over the place and unmanaged….but...I can help…” She puts down the papers with a grin. Her hands clasping together.
“I’ll work with you and see what we can do Mr Jones.” I gave her a quick grin and leaned forward putting my elbows against my knees. “Please, call me Alex.” She tilts her head for a moment thinking before sighing. “No it’s Mr Jones….for now….come back in a few days and see what I have proposed….”
I smiled politely and got to my feet. “Thanks for your time Miss Walker...I’ll be back soon and I’m excited to see what you have for me…” I grabbed my jacket throwing it on, Sonja got to her feet and followed me to the door as I left, her eyes lingering on me for longer than a moment. I stepped out and sighed again. Her beauty now stuck in my mind.
New York City
2 weeks later
I sat across the table from her with a goofy smile on my face. She glazed over the menu with a small hum as I caught myself and quickly changed my grin to a small smirk, I start to use all my little tricks, looking disinterested and scanning the room. Sonja looked up slowly, her eyes going over me, studying me.
After a few moments she slowly put the menu down and cleared her throat with a smile, her hands slowly clasp together as she licks her lips. “Am I boring you Mr Jones?” Her voice was soft and sweet with a small hint of frustration at the end. I looked her up and down leaning back on the chair with one arm dangled over the back. Sonja seemed unimpressed as I smiled.
“No ma’am, just enjoying the view in this lovely restuarant.” A waitress walked past, my eyes darted to the left catching a glimpse of her in the tight black pants they all wore. I hummed to myself and turned back. Sonja tilted her head and laughed to herself. “What was her name?”
“Who?”
I looked at her with a small hint of confusion as she sighed and rolled her eyes before shaking her head. “The woman who damaged you…” I blinked for a moment and collected myself becoming a little uneasy. “I have no idea what you’re talking about….” I clenched my jaw and shifted in my seat staring down at the table, my fingers tracing around the intricate design. Sonja reached across the table and slid a hand over mine.
I looked up into her eyes, the understanding behind them surprised me as she smiled warmly and laughed to herself. “Was it Ana Valentine?..your ex wife?...” My expression didn’t change, I was surprised she knew until I realised the amount of research she must have done when she took my finances on. She studied me closer and smiled. “No…..the one you called your angel then?”
Again, no change in expression, just a blank stare, she sat back and laughed. “Oh...the one who was your first love little E…” “Stop….” I looked up now, a pain burning right through my chest. Sonja slowly nodded and caressed my hand with her thumb, her long light brown hair flowing down her shoulders and body.
“Alex, you don’t have to play games with me. I’m not here to simply be one of your numbers while you recover from whatever it was…I want to be there for you, I wouldn’t have accepted the date otherwise.” She smiles warmly, I look down at her hand and turn mine taking hers and giving it a small squeeze, my eyes trail back up to hers and I can’t help but smile…."So, this is a date then?"She rolled her beautiful eyes at me and scoffed under her breath. "No dear, I wore a dress where I look amazingly curvy because I like doing business while my client fantazises..."
I was speechless, I looked her up and down against and my heart skipped a beat. The enjoyment was not lost on me....
