Scene 001
Off Camera
Things are much of the same between Alechs and Honey. She wants to live life by relying on her dads, while Alechs rebels against the notion. Add that to the friction already between them, and things have been touch and go for weeks now. It was time for Alechs to head to the dealership to get his truck fixed. A headlight. A fender. Some paint. He is lucky is was not more, and that no one was hurt… well, except for his black eye.
Alechs backs out of his driveway as he turns some music up loud. He didn’t care for what song it was, he just needed something to get the thoughts out of his head. Passing her dads house as he pulled out, a scowl came across his face. He heads down the road and towards the dealership.
Scene 002
Off Camera
Alechs is parked in the back of a shopping center. He just stares at his phone.
UNKNOWN: I want to see you.
This was not a good text. It was something Alechs already dreaded. What did they want? Why now? Why couldn’t they leave him alone?
Scene 003
Off Camera
Alechs pulls up towards the dealership and finds a spot. A man comes out.
Man: Wow. That sure is a doozy of fender bender.
Alechs gets out of the car.
Alechs: Yeah, I have an appointment. Aurelio.
Man: Gotcha.
Alechs tosses him the keys.
Alechs: How long?
Man: Well…
He looks around the light and fender.
Man: Probably two or three days. Paint and prep, and all.
Alechs: Okay. Thanks.
Alechs heads inside to sign the paperwork for the repairs.
Scene 004
Off Camera
Alechs’ phone rings. It is his mother.
Alerie: Did… you get the text?
Alechs: Yeah. How?
Alerie: I don’t know, Alechs. But it’s true.
Alechs: Dad? He is out? But he was in for life?
Alerie: I guess some evidence came up with an issue during the time the lawyers were trying for a retrial. And it looks like they were able to grant him parole.
Alech: Just like that?
Alerie: Yes,
Alechs says nothing for a minute.
Alechs:
Alerie: Alechs?
Alechs: I love you. I gotta do some errands ma.
Alerie: I love you too. Please Alechs, be safe.
They hang up the phone as Alechs is overcome with emotions. The father he never got to meet is out of jail. The father that he hated just because. The father he figured that he would never see ever. It only further added to what was going on in Alechs’ life. This was the last thing that he needed. Alechs grabs his phone and texts back.
Alechs: You are no different than a stranger. Just because you are biologically my father does not make you a dad. You decided to sell drugs and earn yourself a place in lockup. I don’t care what the courts say, I know the kind of guy you are. There is no way you will weasel your way into my life. I don’t need you. I’ve never needed you. And my mother taught me to rely only on myself. So goodbye.
