I had just finished packing up my suitcase for the few days I was planning on going away for. After all the work I had been doing lately I needed some kind of vacation to balance everything out, but before I went I wanted to check in on my kids. Little did I know, Joey and Angel had taken Elijah and Sarah to the park. So instead of walking into a noisy house, I walked into complete silence.
My eyes scanned the living room, a few toys and Barbie's laying on the floor. The walls were lined with pictures of all the little ones, some showing me and Joey, some of Joey and Angel. I couldn't help but shift slightly, this was after all my first home but now it seemed so foreign to me. Even with my name still on the deed, it didn't feel like mine… No, it was where Joey and Angel were building their life now. It's the place my kids stayed at most of the time.
“Mom?”
I was pulled out of my thoughts when that young males voice rung out, my gaze shifting toward the staircase where my oldest son was standing on the bottom step. A warm smile came to my lips as I looked on at him, he was growing up so fast.
“Hey sweetie, why aren't you with the family?”
“I think I grew out of taking trips to the park mom.”
I shrugged, a slight laugh slipping out as Jase walked over to me and embraced me in a tight hug that I gladly returned.
“I missed you.”
“It's only been a couple days Jase.”
“I know but I haven't seen you work this hard in forever so it's just weird to me. Plus, the last time you were doing this much you were taking me with you.”
Hearing him say that I sighed softly. There was a reason I wasn't taking him along on these trips. What kind of life is it for a child to constantly be out on the road?
“Well, you just got off for the summer. Maybe I'll bring you to this show coming up. Washington D.C. is a pretty educational place so maybe we can go a bit early and explore some.”
“I'd like that… As long as it doesn't interfere with anything.”
Jase moved away from me as I glanced at him curiously. Wondering what he meant by that comment and he seemed to pick up on my thoughts.
“I do still go on twitter sometimes, mom. I know you have something going on…”
“Oh…”
“Don't worry, I'm not going to be negative about it. I want you to be happy, between seeing you with Dad… And the ending to you and Joey… The mess you became after the last one. I just want you to be happy, are you?”
I'll admit, this threw me off a good bit. My son, the one that was always so against most of my relationships is telling me he's okay with this… When did he grow up so much? Sometimes it's hard for me to remember how old he is considering every time I look at him I still see my baby boy but this was definitely a reminder that he was getting older.
“I really am…”
“So why not bring him over or something?”
“I… I didn't know how everyone would react. Mostly you.”
“As long as it's not Xavier I'm okay.”
I reached up and ran my hand over my face, a bit of a laugh slipping free.
“You really didn't like him did you?”
“Oh no, I loved him oh so much. Thought he was just the greatest guy ever.”
“And there's that award-winning Kivistö sarcasm.”
I laughed out, patting Jase on the head which caused him to growl slightly.
“Don't mess with the hair!”
“Oh, my bad little man.”
“Yeah, I'm sure you mean that. Don't be afraid to introduce him to us. I won't be rude or anything like that.”
I smiled softly at my oldest son, pulling him in for another hug.
“In time, I'll do just that.”
Hearing the front door open up behind me I moved away from Jase and turned around to see Joey and Angel walk in. Joey was holding Elijah in his arms and Sarah was following behind them looking absolutely exhausted.
“Hey, Blair.”
As soon as those words left Joey's lips I saw my little girl perk up almost instantly, pushing between Angel and Joey she came running at me full force and clung onto my legs.
“Mommy!”
“Hey, babygirl.”
I reached down and ruffled the hair on top of Sarah's head before looking over to Joey and Angel. My sister kind of just shrugged and turned toward the kitchen. I didn't expect much more from her really. In fact, I think out of everyone in our family she's the one I'm the furthest from… Maybe it's because of Joey… Maybe it's because of how she's wired. Who knows really.
“Hey Joey, actually wanted to talk to you. Do you maybe wanna take the kids to get some dinner or something?”
“Sure, sounds good.”
“Can we has pissa mommy?”
I smiled down at Sarah, reaching down and lifting her up in my arms as I nodded my head.
“Whatever you want babygirl. Everyone else good with pizza?”
Joey and Jase both nodded their heads.
“Angel! We're going to go get some pizza, want to come?”
Joey shouted out toward the kitchen.
“No, I'll be okay here. Enjoy yourselves.”
Angel's voice responded back, causing me to shrug slightly. My view turned to the little girl I held in my arms, she flashed me a bright smile before making a weird face at me, causing me to mimic her face which sent her into a fit of giggles.
“Come on you silly girl, let's go get some pissa.”
I mocked the way she said it as I carried her out the door, the other boys following close behind me.
