(OOC: Huge shoutout to the handlers of Blair and Stacy for pretty much being the stars of this piece. Writing this with them was a lot of fun.)

Mandalay Bay Event Center’s shadow casts itself upon the view standing before Adrien Cochrane. A majority of the lights were around the structure. It was peaceful in the mind of the Dropkick King. Well, it would be more peaceful if it wasn’t for the company he was keeping on this cool Las Vegas night.
“You’re aware someone is going to spot you. You were on camera at the show stating, ‘HEY! I’M GOING TO BE THE SUSPICIOUS GUY IN THE HOODIE!’”
Eddie Walker was as he always was in the grand scheme of things. Snark and sarcasm were commonplace for the forty-one-year-old at this point. Adrien is usually thrown off when he isn’t being a bit of a smart ass and usually raises an eyebrow to see if things are okay. Things are definitely not okay when Eddie is being soft-spoken or short on words.
But today was not that day. Instead, he was just making quirks about what the duo was doing on this particular Thursday evening.
Eddie: “You’re aware that Kenzie isn’t the only person that is at this place that we know, right?”
Adrien was aware of this. He simply nodded his head. He was still wearing the dark gray hoodie that he put on shortly to cover his blonde hair after the cameras were away from him in the parking lot a mere two hours ago. Also trying to throw off anyone trying to play ‘spot the celebrity’ is a pair of fake eyeglasses covering the blue eyes of the Dropkick King. Walker, on the other hand, was going to make Adrien’s inconspicuous appearance a bit harder to pass as he may have covered up his commonly worn octopus logo t-shirt with a jacket himself, his glasses and hat don’t exactly hide his identity as well since he is often wearing his glasses around the wrestling media.
Eddie: “I’m technically the manager of more than one competitor inside of there. I actually could go inside and actually bring her out here. They’d probably let me in. Maybe even you if you weren’t trying to be all incognito.”
Adrien: “That would defeat the purpose of me showing up to try to be supportive of someone I trained and didn’t want to take the attention away from. It’s bad enough that camera crew caught me snooping around the parking lot during the show.”
Eddie: “Ah, I think it helps Kenzie’s profile having her relationship with you firmly established since she is still fairly unknown to some of the Proving Grounds people.”
Adrien disagreed and voiced it immediately.
Adrien: “She’s not an unknown in Vegas at this point, Eddie. Not after Inferno and #FSociety. And you’re thinking too much like a manager and not like a friend. This is her moment, not mine.”
Eddie: “Adrien, she lost her match.”
Adrien: “She had a heavily favored opponent. I’m proud of her for fighting as hard as she did.”
Eddie: “That isn’t what shows up in the win-loss column.”
Adrien: “And when have I given two shits about that? Once again, you’re thinking too facts and figures, Eddie. There’s a human element to all of this and the day you see both sides of that coin, you’re going to be even scarier at your job.”
Walker shrugs his shoulders at Adrien’s quip. They were leaning against the side of the building. The moon was almost full in the distance. There was zero cloud coverage, which is a welcome change to the straight week of rain two have endured in their home state of Louisiana. A door opens once more, which causes both men to stand a bit more straight momentarily, but it’s nothing more than a crew member.
Eddie: “What did you think of my other client that competed tonight? What were you joking that you were calling yourselves if you got into a tag team with one another?”
Cochrane chuckles a little bit as he thinks about the joke he’s been making on Twitter.
Adrien: “The Power of Friendship.”
Eddie: “Such an awful name. She agrees with me on that, by the way.”
Adrien: “It’s not like we’re teaming, Eddie.”
At this point, both men are laughing.
Eddie: “You know, they did open up the invitations for a scramble for those tag titles. It would be…”
Adrien: “Unless you can get Stacy under contract right now, that’s not happening.”
The face of the manager is a bit stunned.
Eddie: “Didn’t you just…?”
Adrien: “Don’t get me wrong, looking at this roster, Blair would be the most likely for me to team with. But I’d rather abstain and worry about my current goals while Blair focuses on retaining that championship of hers. We both have bigger fish to fry.”
The door opens again and out walks Blair Kivisto, a cigarette already between her lips. About to light that cancer stick she happens to glance over where the two men are. They start conversing slightly lower in volume to keep Blair from hearing them.
Adrien: “Well that’s not Kenzie.”
Eddie: “That would be my other client. I’d think she’d be home by this time. She actually lives out here.”
Adrien: “Always about what you do, huh, Eddie?”
Eddie: “Oh hush.”
Adrien: “Think she knows it’s us?”
Eddie Walker, with his glasses, was able to read the expression on Blair’s face, that expression being one of slight curiosity as to what those two were doing there.
Eddie: “Oh yeah, she knows it’s us.”
Blair: “You two look like a bunch of creepers over there. Just to let you know.”
Adrien throws out one last ditch effort to remain anonymous.
Adrien: “Je ne comprends pas.”
Eddie: “Oh yeah, that will work. Absolutely no one knows that you speak French…”
Blair shakes her head and laughs slightly as she walks closer to the pair.
Blair: “Is this the part where I shout it from the rooftops that The Dropkick King is in Vegas?”
Eddie: “He hasn’t exactly tweeted about this little trip of his.”
Adrien steps on Eddie’s foot.
Eddie: “OW!! Dude, the jig is up! She knows it’s you. You can remove the hood and the glasses.”
Adrien rolls his eyes as he does remove the two biggest parts of his disguise.
Adrien: “Hi, Blair. Congratulations on your match.”
Eddie: “I’m very proud of you, Miss Kiv...I mean, Blair.”
Adrien almost wanted to see Blair step on Eddie’s foot for almost calling her ‘Miss Kivisto’ against her instructions, but Walker was able to catch himself before making the error.
Blair: “Thanks, I'm actually pretty damn shocked myself considering everything I've been through the last week.”
Clear signs of exhaustion were written all over The Number One Bitch’s face.
Blair: “Don't worry, Adrien. I'm not going to tell the world you're here.”
A bit of a smile comes across the face of the Dropkick King. He knew there was something about her that seemed trustworthy.
Adrien: “If it’s any consolation, I’m not preparing to debut here.”
Eddie: “He never outright said he wasn’t going to Redemption. He just avoided the question really well. You can trust him there.”
Adrien: “Gee, thanks for giving away my tell, Eddie.”
Eddie: “What?! I’m helping your point!”
Adrien: “Anyway, the young lady that wrestled Lennox Daniels tonight is someone I trained. I was waiting for her to come out at some point tonight. Since I don’t have backstage access, I thought the best course of action was staking out the door. But I guess at some point, we are supposed to get a much better cup of coffee-slash-tea at some point, right?”
Blair: “Well you know we are in my neck of the woods. Dutch Brothers is out here and you’d probably enjoy the tea they have. I can’t say for sure considering my tea of choice is usually green tea but I’ve never heard anyone complain about them before. Truthfully speaking though I’m just waiting for Isaac to catch up so I can go home and get some much-needed sleep.”
Eddie: “True. Most people aren’t exactly wanting coffee at this hour. Maybe we can do it before we fly back out to New Orleans in the morning.”
Adrien: “If she wants to sleep, I highly doubt she will want to wake up really early before we leave at seven in the morning.”
Eddie: “Well it’s the thought that counts!”
Blair chuckles at the bantering between Eddie and Adrien.
Blair: “I want to sleep but as a mother, doubt I’ll get to sleep past six.”
Eddie: “In that case, my idea still beats Adrien’s. I love it when this happens. Which one of these are the specific locations most ideal for you to visit?”
Walker quickly takes out his phone for Blair to help him find a Dutch Brother’s location on his phone. While Blair scoffs at the presence of all these Apple devices between the men, she finds one that she frequents.
Blair: “This one, right here, knows my order just by seeing me walk up. Makes things a lot easier.”
She looks down feeling her cell phone buzz in her pocket and pulls the S7 out, looking at the text she received.
Blair: “And that’s a change of plans on meeting him, I have to get going.”
Eddie: “No worries, Blair. We will see you bright and early in the morning. And once again congratulations on the victory.”
Blair smiles before turning around in the direction opposite of the building, possibly to a vehicle. It’s always good that the people in Adrien’s new company have become people Adrien is positive he will be able to coexist with. After all, Adrien was about to start a war in Redemption Wrestling. His intention to dethrone the self-appointed king was not going to come without resistance. The fewer enemies he makes on this mission of his, the better off he will be in the grand scheme of things.
Adrien: “Oh crap.”
A light bulb lights up above Adrien’s head.
Eddie: “What? What’s wrong, Adrien?”
Adrien presses both of his hands into his face, his fingertips rubbing his eyes a little bit.
Adrien: “We could have gotten her to fetch Kenzie for us.”
Eddie pauses as he pieces together that information.
Eddie: “Shit.”

“Yeah, I’m pulling up now. I’ll talk to you soon, Eddie. Have a safe trip back when you get back home.”
Adrien Cochrane presses the security code on the keypad to open the gate to his home just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. The first thing he notices is that the other car in the household, a bright red Dodge Dart, owned by his girlfriend and life partner, Stacy Sterling.
Well, Stacy’s home. It’ll be good to be greeted by her smiling face.
He throws his Mercedes in park next to Stacy’s Dart. Adrien looks up at the house and is fairly sure he sees a set of blue eyes peeking through some window blinds. Adrien knows those eyes no matter where he sees them.
What is she up to?
Adrien shakes his head, wondering what his girlfriend could possibly be doing inside their home. His hand grabs the doorknob and turns it, swinging the big white door that bears the number 293 in gold. As soon as the door is fully open and Adrien sees the interior of his living room, there she is. His girlfriend, but she’s not dressed in her normal pajamas that she would be in at this hour of the morning.
Stacy: “Hiya! I just want to shower you with hugs, it feels like it’s been forever!”
Before Adrien can agree or protest, he’s nearly ‘hug tackled’ by Stacy, who wraps both arms around him tightly, rubbing her fingers deep into the back of her boyfriend. Suddenly, she lets him go and pulls away, pointing to her pajama pants proudly. Normally she wears a pair of pajama pants sporting the Superman logo, but this time, the logo adorning her pants is one that reads ‘The Dropkick King’ and is a logo that Stacy personally had designed.
Stacy: “I wanted to ask if you like these? I thought, since I couldn’t sleep with you for the last few nights, I could at least sleep wearing your nickname all over my pants. Is that super cheesy or just kinda cheesy?”
The question was more rhetorical as Stacy’s mouth moved quickly, still firing off questions.
Stacy: “How was your trip!?”
The Dropkick King finally is able to get a word in after Stacy’s latest question.
Adrien: “It was fine. I watched Kenzie wrestle at Proving Grounds. She didn’t win but she held her own against a very tough opponent. Eddie stuck around in Vegas to watch Adam wrestle over at FAW so he’s going to be out of town a few days longer.”
Cochrane looks back down at the pajama pants once more.
Adrien: “How did you make this happen? I was only gone two days?!”
Stacy: “Well this crazy thing hit me when you debuted at WrestleForce. I loved it, the crowd loved it, but I felt like...you needed your own logo. Call me crazy but you’re my superhero and ALL superheroes need a fancy schmancy logo. Now you can have your ring gear people put it on your wrestling trunks. Maybe? Maybe.”
Sterling laughs, but everything she said was true. Since the two met in December, they have been inseparable and have both been there for each other through the amazing and rough times. If there was such a thing as real life superheroes, Adrien fit the description perfectly for the blonde with icy blue eyes.
Stacy: “I would have come to support Kenzie if I didn’t have this planned. Do you like it? You never answered!”
Adrien laughs along with Sterling as she keeps spouting off rapid fire questions at him.
Adrien: “I love it. And you would have had a much harder time trying to be incognito in that big crowd of people. I wore a hoodie over my head and glasses over my face literally the entire show.”
This time, it’s Adrien’s turn to wrap his arms around Stacy, gently squeezing her and lifting her off the ground a bit.
Adrien: “I did miss you though. It’s always a brighter day when I wake up next to you in the morning instead of hearing Eddie’s snoring in the next room.”
Stacy: “Oh gosh his snoring is legendary! I’m pretty sure I could hear him all the way from here while you guys were gone!”
The two share a laugh, as Stacy kicks her legs a little prompting Adrien to place her back on the floor. She takes his hand.
Stacy: “That wasn’t my only surprise. I have something else to show you. We have to go to your office room. Don’t worry, I didn’t mess with any of your guitars or anything. Maybe.”
The maybe again was this time drizzled with a hint of sarcasm, but Adrien again wouldn’t have time to get a word in as he was being dragged in the direction of the office he hadn’t seen for a few days.
Stacy: “So before we go in, I just want to let you know how proud I am of you and if all of this freaks you out we can totally get rid of it. Okay?”
Adrien’s cool blue eyes get very large. Stacy can feel Adrien’s apprehension from the expression on his face. A few blinks later Adrien finally lets out a very hesitant response.
Adrien: “...okay.”
He takes a deep breath as Stacy opens the door. The couple step in and the room is untouched with the exception of a very obvious addition to the walls. In an elegant gold trimmed frame was a photo of Adrien’s Redemption Wrestling debut.
Stacy: “I know you probably don’t like looking at yourself as much as I like looking at you but hear me out!”
Stacy puts a hand on his chest as her voice is just above a hushed whisper. At the moment she can’t tell what Adrien is thinking.
Stacy: “This was a HUGE career move for you. EXODUS, #FSociety and everywhere else you wrestled were big time deals, but Redemption is on another level right now and you had what most people will probably call the most memorable debut in the company’s existence. I wanted something to commemorate it. And I wanted you to know that I plan on being in this office with you regularly because that picture is so hot! Are the kids still saying hot or no?”
Adrien: “I have no idea what the kids are saying these days.”
Adrien places his fingertips along the trim of the picture. The picture is immediately after he slid into the ring, which caused Matthew Shields and Kayla Richards to retreat from their double team attack on newly crowned Yujiro Fujiwara. Of course, the photo was cropped to only show Cochrane, wearing his #Believe shirt, leather jacket, and jeans.
Adrien: “I ask again, how the heck did you make all of this happen in literally forty-eight hours?”
Stacy: “I’ll never give away my secrets!”
With a playful laugh, Stacy joins him, gazing up at the picture. The #Believe shirt caught her attention. She ran her finger just under the hashtagged phrase on the photo.
Stacy: “It’s amazing to me, that one word is so powerful. When I was younger, I would go to bed every night kind of hoping things would be different. The whole bullying thing you know? It really bothered me, but I never stopped believing. I knew one day things would change. Then fast forward so many years later, we meet, and #Believe is your thing. It’s just...something to me. I don’t even have the words.”
As her finger came off of the framed photo, she inhaled a deep breath before turning to face Adrien.
Stacy: “I hope you aren’t expecting any more surprises though, I’m all surprised out...for now!”
Stacy grinned mischievously and tapped her fingers together.
Adrien: “I wasn’t expecting the two that you gave me. I guess if I was actually expecting them, they wouldn’t be surprises now, would they?”
Both of them share a chuckle. Adrien presses his lips against the forehead of Stacy and smiles back at her.
Adrien: “You’re the greatest. You really are. I never know what to expect with you every day. It’s like a little adventure you take me on every single day we’ve been together. From the little fun house trip to the bass guitar that you got made from my specifications and even that time that you showed up at my hotel early in our relationship with all those fans downstairs. It’s never a dull moment around you and I love it.”
Stacy: “Don’t be so humble! You have made my heart burst how many times? The time you sang Elvis to me at the airport because you know I LOVE me some Elvis!”
Her nose crinkles as she smiles at the memory.
Stacy: “Or the whole playing 'Stacy's Mom' by Fountains of Wayne? That one was a little embarrassing but I loved it! Or Mini-Golf where you let me tie you even though you could have beaten me. Not to mention all of the other little things you have done that I could go on for days about. That’s what I love about us, we both put so much effort in, and I truly believe...wait, I did that wrong.”
Stacy clears her throat.
Stacy: “I...hashtag...Believe...that our future together is going to be perfect. Super perfect even.”
Adrien: “I totally don’t remember letting you tie me. I could have sworn you totally earned that tie fair and square.”
Stacy playfully swings at Adrien, both of them laughing as she does.
Adrien: “I don’t see any other way...my future has to have Stacy Sterling in it. You are everything to me.”
The two give goofy smiles at one another as soon as Adrien says those words to her.
Stacy: “And my future isn’t complete unless it has The Dropkick King, my superhero in it.”
Stacy grabs his hand and gives it a gentle squeeze before leaning in close to Adrien, placing a kiss on his chest.
Stacy: “And by the way now that you’re home, you totally need to get us a new toaster. I may have broken it while you were gone.”
Adrien’s eyebrows raise a little upon the latest revelation from his girlfriend.
Adrien: “I thought you said you were out of surprises?!”
Stacy shakes her head laughing.
Adrien: “I’m not sure I understand though. Like...how did you break a toaster?!”
Stacy: “It’s a long story that involves me, a strawberry Pop Tart, and leaving it in there way too long and...yeah...let’s not go there!”
Adrien wipes both of his eyes a little bit, but still laughing a little bit at the whole situation.
Adrien: “It’s no big deal. I’ll just swing over by Best Buy and pick up a new one. No worries. Maybe one that can turn off automatically after a certain amount of time.”
Adrien winks as Stacy shakes her head. He pulls her close and wraps his arms around her once more, embracing her tight. With her face buried in his shoulder, he can still tell she’s smiling. Every day was an adventure with Stacy, but in the end, he was positive his love for her and her love for him would stand the test of time.
