[Off-Camera]
The scene opens outside the West Coast Genesis training facilities. The sun is high in the sky on this warm afternoon. It was a quiet afternoon as many of the notable talent had come in earlier to train or work out. A few people remained but with the upcoming show many had gotten out of there.
As ordinary as this day seemed it was not to be without its surprises. Newly hired Redemption talent Jonathan Drake has arrived today. He can be seen entering the building and holding the door for one of the West Coast's top talents Ruby Rose.
I cant thank you enough for showing me where this place was. I mean I had the address but I can never find my way around Los Angeles. I always get lost. Its like the city planners decided to work contrary to how my brain works.
"Are you kidding? It's not every day that I get to show the new kid around."
She shoots him a grin and playfully nudges his side with her elbow.
"Seriously, though, this is the greatest facility I've ever seen. It's almost impossible not to stay in shape with access to this place."
He smiles as he flinches as Ruby nudges his ribs.
Yea, yea. I’m the new guy. Still you’ve been a great help. These facilities look amazing. I am so excited to be able to use them when I am in LA.. .
He continues to smile as he steps in fully within the facilities. He looks around and a look of excitement and awe flash across his face. Not quite Disneyland excitement but it can be close.
Wow. You guys train here, much better then the gym I trian in up in Portland. By comparison its more like a glass filled back alley then a real gym like this.
"Yeah. It's a bit of a step-up from where I used to train back home."
Ruby takes a minute to look the place over again. She has been coming here for a few months now and as a result has failed to really appreciate it the way that she did when she started. She could remember her first time in the gym by the look on Jonathan's face as he takes it in for the first time as well.
"Hey, listen. I wanted to thank you for stepping in today on Twitter. It was a stupid argument with some hard-headed people, but Ryan really deserved to be defended. I don't know why he's getting such a bad rep lately. Or why certain people insist on getting involved in that."
She sighs and shakes her head, obviously still upset over something that she referred to as a stupid argument as well as something that doesn't seem anywhere near as big a deal as she appears to have taken it for some reason.
Hey, its no problem. It amazes me how people seem to think that behaving badly or cheating can be justified. Anyways who to say it's dumb to stand up for a friend especially if it affects you so. At the end of the day don't feel bad for supporting your friend but at the same time don’t let jealous people pull you down..
He smiles towards Ruby as they continue walking slowly into the gym together.
Besides any friends of yours is a friend of mine
She offers Jonathan a smile in response to that, but there's something about the word friend that doesn't exactly perk her up the way she typically is.
"Well, Ryan's a great guy. Everyone should want to be his friend."
With a shrug of the shoulders, she takes a deep breath and looks to turn her attention to less mentally tasking thoughts.
"So, what do you usually do in your workouts?"
Jonathan gives her a quizzical look for a brief moment before smiling. He decided now was probably not the time to dig deeper especially since she seemed to want to push past it.
Most of my work out is high reps and low impact type things. I like to keep lean and work on footwork and stamina training. I need to work more on my technical skills to be honest. I tend to make a lot of things up as I go.
Jonathan laughs softly.
Maybe some day you can teach me a thing or two so I can get better..
"Well, I pretty much only do cardio so… I'm thinking you'll have more to teach me than I will have to teach you."
She laughs and gives the facility another quick look around. Honestly, she mostly only does cardio so she's not entirely sure what else there is to do.
"I mean, I use the weights as much as I need to because I don't want to be weak. But really, the most use I got out of those was when Mason came up and trained me a little bit."
Jonathan chuckles as he smiles.
Yea I can imagine that scene. You nearly buried in weights. I am sure he warms up with more weight then both of us would use in a year.
Ruby has a laugh at the mental image. It's clearly not what actually happened because she was there and knows otherwise, but it is a hilarious mental image.
"He's incredibly strong. You know he picked me up over his head with one hand?"
It happened, folks. And she's still in stunned disbelief about it judging by the look on her face.
"I don't know if that's a comment on how strong he is or how small I am."
She laughs as she thinks that over.
I am sure he is very strong. I can believe he could do that, pick you up with one Hand. Heck I am sure he could probably do that to me as long as I would let him. I can honestly say he disappointed me earlier, but we won't dwell.
He gives a thoughtful look towards Ruby. Her mood starts to drop slightly, just before Jonathan changes the topic.
I think I need to check in over there right? You know to get my badges, IDs, or whatever.
"That would be correct. Look at you being the smart new kid.
Again she playfully nudges him with a grin.
"I'll let you get all your business in order. I'll just be over there working up a sweat or something. Let me know if they throw you out and I'll be right out to check on you in like an hour or two."
She laughs and winks at what I'm hoping is a joke.
Jonathan smailes as Ruby nudges him again and he chuckles at her joke.
Don’t worry if they try and kick me off I’ll just flail about so you know where to run from.
Jonathan breaks into an honest laugh as he smiles and takes note of where Ruby pointed.
Sure thing. You working up a sweat and me sitting through paperwork. I think we all know who’s winning here..
Jonathan Smiles and heads to the main offices to finish the paperwork and receive his credentials to use the gym and facilities.
Some Time Later…
Because a time jump is the easiest thing to do! Jonathan and Ruby are both in need of a breather given the fact they've both worked up a sweat at this point and, you guessed it, they're taking a moment to catch their breaths! Ruby takes a seat on the floor and leans back against the wall, taking a long drink from her water bottle.
Jonathan takes a long pull from his water bottle before sitting down next to Ruby.
”Well then. I thought i had a rough daily. I swear after trying to keep up i will never look angrily at my work out plan again.”
Jonathan laughs.
“So Ruby. How are you doing? Not today i know we have had some fun, but over all. How are you handling the career the fame just everything?
"Fame?"
Ruby laughs.
"The career part is… eh, it could be worse. Anxious for this Saturday to see how my first singles match in West Coast Genesis goes. Jack Santore is pretty scary, if I'm being honest."
Jonathan smiles as he nudges her arm with his elbow.
Oh please you are to famous. You have your own fan base for sure.
Jonathan laughs.
As for Jack, what's there to really be scared of. I mean fine he is an accomplished wrestler but Ruby you are one of the most talented wrestlers i've ever known Jonathan takes a sip of his water. Granted i don't know a huge number but you still top the list.
Ruby smiles at his confidence, even if he can be incredibly doofy about it sometimes. She appreciates it a lot, nonetheless.
"Obviously we have to introduce you to some more wrestlers."
Maybe Jonathan smiles softly For now I know the right wrestler. Jonathan pauses a moment as he looks down. He looks up with a softness in his eyes. I want to thank you again Ruby. You’ve really helped me in a lot of ways and well I don’t have the words to express how amazing you’ve been.
With a grin, Ruby pushes at Jonathan sitting next to her.
"Stop it. I haven't really done anything but give you a place to stay. You're the one who has put up with my neurotic mood swings."
Feigns a stronger push by Ruby rocking back a little.
Please you are an angel. I am surprised you have put up with my crazy ass as long as you have. Jonathan chuckles. I’ve been doing some thinking lately. With Redemption and everything else… I’ve been considering moving to LA. Jonathan pauses as he thinks for a moment. He looks up smiling I mean It just seems like the best for … my career. What do you think?
Ruby leans away from Jonathan, giving him a harder look as if she's trying to study that smile he has on his face to decipher if there's something she should be picking up on from it.
"Don't you have, like, a whole career in Portland too?"
Portland Pro was always an entry point. A stepping stone but not where i wanted my career. Redemption was where i wanted to be. Jonathan pauses. with the training facility here and everything. I don’t know maybe I'm overthinking things. It just feels like maybe the right move.
She considers that for a moment and then turns to sit back on her knees and face him more directly.
"Just don't dive too fast and deep into anything. Especially a move. I did that for a company and it was the absolute biggest mistake I made. I mean, thankfully I figured that out before I lost anything here, but… it was scary and one of the hardest mistakes for me to fix and move on from. I just don't want to see you make the same one I did."
Jonathan smiles as he faces Ruby.
I get that. It's just that even though i live in Portland I haven't had a home in years. I literally can fit all my belongings into 2 maybe 3 bags. Not counting the bed I have. So I've almost always been moving somewhere the past 6 years.
Jonathan frowns and looks down. Ruby frowns too and hunches down to look up at his downward gaze.
"What's wrong?
Jonathan sighs.
Yes… no… Sorry. Just sometimes the past comes back when we least expect it.
Ruby sits in silence for a long moment, emoting her sympathy for Jonathan. She places a hand over the back of his and gives in a little squeeze.
"Do you know if trees lose their leaves here in the winter? Or at all?"
Jonathan looks up quizzical.
I would assume it depends on the tree. Jonathan smiles as he reaches and lays a hand on top of Rubys. Thanks I will be ok. I dont think the WCG gym is the best place to go into some stuff. I’ll explain later.
Jonathan smiles warmly.
So where do we go from here?
Ruby stands up and gives Jonathan's hand a tug to help pull him to his feet. Though, I assure you he's big enough that she doesn't do much of that work.
"From here, I hope you got enough rest because it's time for the run home."
Jonathan stands, smiles and gives Rubys hand a light squeeze.
Run home? So what do i get if I win? Jonathan gives a laugh his mood changing back to a brighter state.
"Doesn't matter, cause it's not gonna happen."
She grins at Jonathan and turns to head to the door, only to stop suddenly and turn back around. She points at him warningly.
"No parkour."
After laying out that single rule, she shoots him another grin and a wink before hurrying out the door to get a head start on the longer legged man.
