The muffled sound of “Call to Arms” by Angels and Airwaves is still audible. He did it. Adrien Cochrane did what no one expected him to do. Well, maybe not no one. The three people standing around him at this very moment lived and breathed the word across Adrien’s chest in big blue letters on his black shirt. He looks around at the three people who’ve supported him through thick and thin in the fight against Allyson Morrow, the undefeated young wrestler who blinded Adrien with sticky mist, and two weeks later, used the same mist to blind his girlfriend, Stacy Sterling. Stacy probably had the widest grin of the group, as everything Adrien did, it was to defend her honor and avenge what had happened to her. The eye contact between the two was immediately interrupted by the manager with dark spiked hair.
Eddie: “Will you hold still, dammit! I’m trying to get this blood off your forehead!”
Adrien didn’t even realize he was bleeding. It must have come from the chair shots while the referee was down. Walker starts wiping off some of the blood off Adrien’s forehead. It wasn’t a whole lot of blood, considering how bloody matches with Morrow can get. The forty-one-year-old examines it for a moment before giving a grin of his own.
Eddie: “I don’t think you’ll need stitches this time around. Not a bad cut. Will probably heal on its own after a few hours. Try not to pick at it when it starts to heal, please, or I’ll make sure Ally gets a chance to actually give you stitches.”
A wink from the sarcastic manager causes an eye roll from the three-time World Heavyweight Champion. The fourth person in the little circle was the woman who Adrien spent so much time and effort making her into the best wrestler she could be, the Paragon herself, Kenzie Rydell. Not even an hour earlier, she took down Chris Night while Adrien was able to seal away the forces going after them. There was some mistrust brewing preceding the final showdowns between the mentor and his protege but they were able to work past it and reach the goal they so desperately reached for. Rydell gives a faint smile, looking back up at her mentor with her large hazel eyes.
Kenzie: “So… We did it, huh? Allyson Morrow, Chris Night...”
Adrien nodded firmly.
Adrien: “Yep. We did.“
Looking down at her shoes, she nervously spoke again with caution in her voice.
Kenzie: “Can we talk for a second? Away from Eddie and Stacy, I mean.”
Adrien glanced curiously at his young trainee then back at his girlfriend and manager. Both of them turned to one another and stepped around the corner for a moment. Adrien then turns back to Kenzie Rydell.
Kenzie: “Back when we were on a collision course, back when Chris Night set us up against each other a few weeks ago, I said some pretty bad things about you. I was so wrapped up with the thought of being the main event, with the thought of fighting a former world champion and proving I could stand toe to toe with a legend like you… I’m sorry. I wasn’t acting like myself. I just had all those emotions, all these opinions that I’ve kept inside for all that time and I just felt like I needed to say something. The last thing I meant to do was hurt you like I did, not over something so stupid and childish…”
Kenzie looked down again. Adrien places a hand on Kenzie’s shoulder in a reassuring manner.
Adrien: “Listen, Kenzie. To me, it’s water under the bridge. Night knew the right buttons to push on you then went ahead and pushed away. You’re self-aware of what happened now. You acknowledged that you let things get carried away. Hopefully, we’ll grow stronger because we had this. In short, you’re forgiven, Kenzie.”
Adrien tries to throw in a smile to make Kenzie feel a bit more comfortable.
Kenzie: “I’m glad.”
With a smile, she nodded in response. Adrien whistles around the corner to signal that Stacy and Eddie can return to the conversation going on. Adrien looks back at them one by one.
Adrien: “So...what now? All three of us no longer have rings to wrestle in.”
The Dropkick King started to put his eggs in the KCW basket, where Stacy Sterling was one of the biggest stars and ownership loved the idea of having her very popular boyfriend draw some fans. It looked promising when Adrien and Stacy won the tag team titles there shortly before the company announced it was closing the next day. Couple that with #FSociety closing, none of them had wrestling contracts anymore.
Eddie: “Well, you let me worry about that. I’ll try to find gainful employment for all of you. This is the whole reason you guys keep me around, isn’t it?"
Kenzie: “Eddie, you’re the best. Did you realize that?”
Eddie gives his trademark smirk as he replies to Kenzie.
Eddie: “Every morning when I wake up, I look in the mirror and tell myself that. But it’s always good to hear it in the tones of another voice. But yeah, all three of you...don’t worry about finding new companies. I’m going to make sure all of you are taken care of and back in the ring in no time.”
The shorter Kenzie smiled.
Stacy, who has remained quiet this entire time, opens up for the first time.
Stacy: “I SUPER appreciate it, Eddie. Thank you so much for helping us all out. You get extra cookies the next time I make them!”
Kenzie: “I should probably head out and leave you guys alone. Adam’s probably wondering what’s taking so long.”
With that, Kenzie waves politely and heads out towards her locker room, where her boyfriend, Adam Sanders, was presumably waiting for her return. As soon as she does, Adrien turns back to Eddie.
Adrien: “Actually, Eddie, can you give me and Stacy a moment?”
Walker rolls his eyes. His face is starting to show signs of some wrinkles below the blue eyes he starts wiping. The trademark sarcasm starts to come out.
Eddie: “Fine. Just keep kicking me out, despite everything I do for all of you. I’ll just get everything ready for us to get out of here...”
Stacy: “I promise I won’t let him keep kicking you to the curb, well, not for long at least.”
Stacy grins as Walker threw a hand up with the peace sign. The manager shakes his head as he heads back to Adrien’s locker room to start gathering belongings for the group.
Stacy: “Hey, is everything okay?”
Stacy’s blue eyes wander back and forth over the face of Adrien. The previously bleeding cut was now under control, but still visible.
Stacy: “Did you need me to get something for you?”
The Dropkick King gives a big smile.
Adrien: “You worry too much. No, I’ve got a surprise for you, actually.”
Stacy: “Oh? A surprise? I actually had one for you too. You have no idea how proud I am of you...BUT….I can wait to give you my surprise!”
Stacy excitedly grabbed Adrien’s hand, giving it a squeeze. Her infectious smile spread across her entire face with anticipation of the surprise Adrien had in store for her.
Stacy: “What is it!? I can’t wait any longer even though I JUST found out about it like fifteen seconds ago!”
Adrien: “I know we talked about our vacation after this show, and I know it was something that you were really excited about doing. So I went ahead and found us a nice little vacation destination for us to go to.”
Adrien watches as Stacy’s grin gets bigger and bigger.
Adrien: “So I thought a nice little tropical island would the perfect place for us to go to. So when we get home, we are going to pack our bags and head on over to beautiful Puerto Rico!!”
A loud, excited squeal escapes the body of ‘Superman’s Favorite Civilian’ as Adrien feels her grip on his hand grow tighter. Anyone within five hundred feet of the couple couldn’t miss the sound of excitement from Sterling.
Stacy: “Puerto Rico!? That is amazing! The beaches, the water, the capability of actually getting a tan!”
The couple shares a laugh as Stacy blinks a few times, growing silent for the first time in the last few moments.
Stacy: “Seriously...thank you. These last few months together have been incredible, and I’m pretty sure the last thing most people would do while preparing for a match with Ally Morrow of all people is planning a vacation, but you always put others ahead of yourself. Always. I love your selflessness. And I’m going to love Puerto Rico with you.”
Stacy lets go of Adrien’s hand and instead wraps her arms around the waist of her still sweaty, but victorious boyfriend.
Stacy: “Thank you.”
Looking over her shoulder to make sure Eddie isn’t around the corner spying on them in the playful manner he has before, she leans in, pressing her lips against Adrien’s, but oddly enough, it isn’t Eddie that rounds the corner, instead, it’s an #FSociety crew member. Stacy quickly pulls her face away from Adrien, eyes wide, with an undeniable smirk across her face.
Stacy: “I was...just...just...I was making sure he wasn’t bleeding anymore. Nothing to see here.”
The crew member chuckles as he continues walking, leaving a thoroughly blush-faced Stacy to stare at Adrien.
Stacy: “That wasn’t obvious, was it?”
Adrien: “Just a tad.”
Adrien is doing everything in his power to keep from laughing at Stacy’s embarrassment. Just as soon as he does, this time, Walker turns the corner.
Eddie: “I’m pretty sure I heard some sort of wild animal squealing over here. It didn’t go on a rampage and injure my prized clients, did they?”
Stacy: “The wild animal was actually me.”
Stacy let her hands fall free from Adrien and sheepishly raises her right hand, her eyes trained on the ground.
Stacy: “Adrien is giving me a surprise…”
Without waiting for Walker, who probably was already in the know anyways Stacy thought, to take a guess, Stacy shouts the news almost as loud as her previous squeal.
Stacy: “WE’RE GOING TO PUERTO RICO!!!!”
Walker looks unamused and rolls his eyes again.
Eddie: “And who is the guy who books all of Adrien’s travel arrangements again? Is it Adam? Does Kenzie do it? Oh wait, I did! I do think I recall booking a flight to Puerto Rico for two people. Was it Adrien and Stacy? I think it was Adrien and Stacy…”
Eddie chuckles a bit.
Eddie: “Yes, I know, Stacy. And I hope you two crazy kids have a great time in Puerto Rico! It’s quite lovely down there, especially in the warm months. And by the way, I actually just received a phone call a few moments ago. There’s a company that’s already making a huge push for a member of this little circle of ours.”
Adrien and Stacy: “There is!?”
The couple looks at each other with matching grins. They couldn’t have planned to respond the exact same way if they tried. Stacy though, knowing how big of a star Adrien is, turns her head to him.
Stacy: “Just...do not rush to sign anything, okay? Make sure everything is perfect. The scheduling, the place, the timing...you deserve the best.”
Sterling turns to Walker.
Stacy: “Who is trying to sign, Adrien? Don’t keep secrets like this!”
Walker shakes his head once more.
Eddie: “Who said it was Adrien?”
After a brief pause, Walker chuckles and keeps speaking.
Eddie: “Okay, it’s Adrien. Redemption Wrestling is making a huge push to sign Adrien. They want him to officially become a member of their roster at their biggest event of the year, WrestleForce. The only problem is...it’s in June…”
Adrien: “I can wait that long. That’s no big deal.”
Eddie: “And you can’t tell anyone about it. Devlin Scott wants to make a huge splash on his show to make it as memorable as possible. A big star like Adrien announcing he is now in Redemption will make his show huge.”
Stacy: “You know I can’t hold water with stuff like this, right?”
Quickly putting the ambitious manager at ease, Stacy walks over to him and rests her hand on his shoulder.
Stacy: “But I guess since you helped book the vacation of a lifetime, I can make an exception.”
Sterling turns back to Adrien but keeps her distance.
Stacy: “I’m so proud of you. You beat the unbeatable, helped me win tag titles, and are going to be the biggest surprise of the summer to an amazing company. You’re a real-life Superman.”
Eddie: “They are also going to be hosting an All-Female Invitational tournament as well. If it’s okay with you, I thought it would be a good idea to make sure you got involved in that as well. Maybe after they see you wrestle for a little bit, they will want both members of this power couple.”
Cochrane quickly turns to Sterling.
Adrien: “What do you say, babe? Maybe we can hang out before both of our matches if you join the tournament?”
Stacy: “I don’t even need to think twice about it, yes! I mean I’m guessing there will be some of the best talents from around the world in this thing, and even being a rookie, I think I can compete. Eddie if you could make that happen, I would so owe you!”
Eddie: “It shall be done. This will also give me the entire month of May to make sure Adrien’s contract is perfect and bringing in the big dollars as well. This isn’t KCW where they put you in cheap little trailers in the back that don’t even have running water. This is a big damn company. And they are going to make sure we can live quite comfortable as long as this guy here keeps dropkicking whoever they line up across from him in that Redemption ring.”
Adrien: “I’ll let you worry about that. We have a beach calling our name.”
Stacy: “I can’t wait for the beaches and the water, I love water which you already know given my obsession of swimming in your pool pretty much all last month! But guys...come closer, please?”
The two men look at each other with raised eyebrows and walk towards the blonde who is shaking her fingers out down at her sides.
Stacy: “This calls for a SUPER group hug!”
Without warning, Stacy wraps an arm around both and pulls them in as tightly as she can. As soon as Eddie is able to wiggle free from his best friend’s girlfriend, he does.
Eddie: “Well, everything is prepared for our departure. Be sure to take in this moment. It’s the last time we leave an #FSociety event.”
A simple fact that hadn’t quite hit Adrien yet. This would be the last time he is in an arena as a member of #FSociety, a company he called home for nine months, main evented three of their four supercards, and winning their last ever match against Morrow. At this point, the lights were off in the arena outside the curtains. The crew was working on dissembling the entrance ramp.
Adrien: “You two go on ahead. I’ll catch up with you in a moment.”
Stacy knew this was a sentimental moment for Adrien. He won a championship and went his entire run with only being pinned one time. In her opinion, if there was anyone who could rightfully claim to be one of the faces of the company, it was him.
Stacy: “We’ll be in the car. If you need me, just call. Okay?”
Adrien nods. He steps from behind the curtain one last time. The fans were gone. The commentators, road agents, everyone had already left. But across where the ramp previously stood, the ring still stood tall. The crew members, obviously recognizing who he was, let him pass as he started to walk towards the ring. He gently places his hand on the apron. He climbs into the ring.
Adrien: “I got to wrestle the very last match here. It was an honor.”
Adrien sees where a little bit of his O-negative blood from the match still remained on the mat. He smiles as he looks at the very corner where the climax of the match took place. Ally Morrow throwing strike after strike while telling him he would never be anything and would never beat her. He laughs as not even five seconds after she told him that he was nothing and always would be nothing, he landed his finishing move, the Adrien Cutter, and got the victory. He grabs the top rope and pulls on it a little bit before hopping over the ropes and back to ringside.
Adrien: “Alright guys. Take it down.”
The crew nods as they start to take apart the ring for the final time in #FSociety history. But to Adrien, it was only the end of a chapter. Next stop: June 4th, Redemption Wrestling’s WrestleForce.

A tiny ray of sunshine was able to slip past the curtains of the hotel room window into the face of the Dropkick King himself. Though his eyelids feel a bit heavy, Adrien Cochrane opens them. The first thing he does is look on the other end of the bed at the person sleeping beside him. And there she was, still sound asleep after enjoying everything Puerto Rico had to offer the night before. Stacy Sterling was on her side, facing her boyfriend and wearing her white pajamas with the blue and red Superman logo all over them. Her cheeks were still a bit red as she clutches the pillow, possibly still thinking it was Adrien himself throughout the night of tossing and turning. Her blonde hair as all over the place, even a little on Adrien’s pillow. But most of all, the shape of her mouth formed a happy grin.
The New Orleans native gently pulls Sterling’s hair back to a less scattered position before giving the two-time KCW Showcase Champion a soft kiss on her forehead. He rises to a seated position on the edge of his bed. He looks at the alarm clock reading that it was three minutes til eight in the morning. He unplugs his iPhone 7 Plus from its charger and sees an unread text message from his manager to call him when he wakes up. He grabs a nearby gray All-American Rejects t-shirt and throws it on. He adjusts the curtain so the sunlight won’t bother Stacy’s slumber then steps onto the balcony, calling up Eddie on his phone as he does.
Eddie: “Good morning, bossman. How’s the tropical island getaway going?”
Walker sounds alert and awake on the phone as Adrien is still wiping his eyes, removing any crust that gathered around them as he slept the previous night.
Adrien: “Well, we’ve been doing a lot of swimming off the beach. Stacy is starting to get tanner than I’ve ever seen her while I’m throwing as much sunscreen to prevent from becoming a lobster as much as I can. I think we’re going to go horseback riding in what is apparently the only rainforest protected by the United States federal government at some point today. Carabali Rainforest, it’s apparently beautiful.”
Eddie: “I’ve seen the pictures. You’re going to enjoy it. So I’ve been doing some digging into Redemption since there is like a ninety-nine percent chance that’s where you’re wrestling. I came across something you might find interesting. Got your computer near you?”
Adrien quietly slides open the balcony door and tiptoes past the snoozing Stacy Sterling. He grabs his MacBook Pro off the hotel room desk and slips back outside. Once he shuts the sliding glass door to the balcony, he sets the computer on the little table outside.
Adrien: “Alright. I’m on the computer. What am I about to look at?”
There was something in Eddie’s tone over the phone. Eddie is the kind of guy who usually doesn’t take a whole lot of things seriously...until there is something going on where he needs to. Adrien felt like what Eddie was about to show him was pretty important. The joyous, snarky sarcasm wasn’t there. It was a tone that demanded Adrien’s attention.
Eddie: “Are you familiar with a grappler by the name Matthew Shields?”
The name definitely registers with Adrien. He’s positive he follows the man on Twitter.
Eddie: “You two shared an exchange back in November. He talked about torturing people who kept jumping him. Quite disturbing. Well, he’s champion over in Redemption, and let’s just say his ego calls for him to be a bit more than just champion...it’s easier to show you. Open the link in the message I just sent you. This is from the show they just had four days ago.”
Adrien watches the video segment titled “The King’s Bounty” as the trumpeters announce the arrival of Shields to the ring, preceded by Coda and Kayla Richards. The New Orleans native rolls his eyes as he watches Kayla Richards demand everyone rise to pay respect to Shields. It was when Shields himself started speaking. The way he spoke to Yujiro Fujiwara made Adrien’s fist clench. His blood started boiling. The fact saying anything negative about the man was being called treason was absolutely absurd to Adrien.
Adrien: “I’m guessing you’re already devising a plan about this. What are we doing about this?”
Eddie: “Well, you enjoy your vacation for the time being. We’re not supposed to reveal we are coming to Redemption until WrestleForce. But the good news is, Mr. Scott is allowing us some liberties in the interest of adding more hype. We’re going to start simple. A few graphics here and there, maybe even one during this so-called King’s next match.”
Adrien: “Sounds like a plan. I’m guessing we can eventually get into recorded messages.”
Eddie: “Yeah, once you’re back on the mainland, we can worry about that. Today is about you, Stacy, the Carabali Rainforest, and some horse with a name like Bambina or something. I’ll take care of the whole graphics thing while you have fun with your beloved paramour.”
Adrien glances back at the sleeping Stacy Sterling. Eddie was right. This vacation was about Stacy and making sure she was capturing memories.
Eddie: “Shields isn’t going to have a clue you’re coming til June. You, go have fun with your superhero. I got it from here. Call me if you need anything, sir.”
Adrien: “Alright, Eddie. Thanks. You’re the best.”
Eddie: “It’s why you pay me the big bucks.”
Click.
Adrien stretches his arms a little bit before shutting the MacBook Pro. He opens the door to see a stirring Stacy Sterling. Her eyes eventually dart up towards Adrien, who is setting his laptop back on the desk.
Adrien: “Good morning, sleepyhead. Did you sleep well?”
Still tucked underneath the hotel blankets and head on the pillow, Stacy Sterling nods her head. Adrien smiles as he steps over to Stacy’s side of the bed and helps pull her up from the bed.
Adrien: “You look beautiful.”
Stacy shakes her head in disagreement. There wasn’t an ounce of makeup on her face, and her hair was still all over the place. Her blue eyes were still droopy and not quite alert yet, and her pajamas were still wrinkled from being slept in. Despite all of that, she was perfect to Adrien. Anyone could be beautiful when dressed up. The fact she makes Adrien’s heart pound a little harder even when she is just getting out of bed, that’s true beauty.
Adrien: “Need me to start running water for your shower and start getting a nice cup of coffee for you?”
Stacy sleepily nods again. Adrien chuckles a little bit as she does.
Adrien: “I love you.”
Stacy smiles as she rolls her eyes a bit. She wraps her arms around his neck and gives him a good morning kiss. While she wasn’t quite awake enough to say anything, he knew it was her way of saying that she loved him too.
Adrien: “Let me get that water running for you.”
Stacy gives a happy sigh. Her grin was from ear to ear. For the second time in the past minute, only one thing was on his mind: how perfect Stacy Sterling was to him.

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
