Aurora and Damon walked through the front door, and were immediately greeted with images of some very familiar faces – that of their manager, Alicia Perry, and their trainer, Jason Perry. Standing between them in the large picture mounted on the wall was an unfamiliar figure – well, unfamiliar to them, at least. The Perrys seemed to be quite well-acquainted with the young, athletic-looking man with a wavy mop of brown hair.
Their workout gear slung in duffel bags over their shoulders, they walked into the gym, looking around for any sign of their management team, but the place was pretty much empty. This didn’t come as a surprise to them – Alicia herself had arranged for them to have the place to themselves. She had also mentioned that they were bringing “an old friend” to join them.
Damon: This is the right place, isn’t it?
Aurora reached into the front pocket of her duffel bag, pulling out her phone. She checked the address in the text message Alicia had sent earlier, and with a nod of her head, confirmed that this was the place.
Aurora: Yup... this is it. I just didn’t think that we’d actually beat them here.
Damon: Well, might as well hit the locker rooms and get suited up. Maybe they’ll get here by the time we come out.
They headed further into the gym, past a row of heavy bags until they came to a wall with two doorways. Between the doorways was yet another framed image of a familiar face, this time, of Alicia’s brother Sergio. They looked at the image, then at each other, chuckling as they nodded their heads.
Damon & Aurora: Yup; we’re in the right place!
A quick peck on the lips was exchanged between the two before they went into the separate locker rooms to change.
A few minutes later, they both emerged from the locker rooms, ready for their latest training session to begin. As Aurora began stretching, Damon scanned the scene for any signs of the Perrys. Finally, he spotted the unmistakable towering figure of their trainer, Jason, standing in all of his 6’7” glory, standing by one of the heavy bags, along with the man from the picture.
Damon: There they are!
Aurora looked over in the direction that Damon was pointing, and narrowed her eyes in an effort to focus. She could see Jason, she could see his companion, but where was Alicia?
Aurora: That’s odd; I thought Alicia would be with them.
The younger man stepped to the side, revealing Alicia standing just on the opposite side of the bag, laughing at what Aurora could only assume was some sort of joke that she couldn’t hear. Seeing her manager laugh like that brought a smile to her face.
Aurora: Hey, Boss! Over here!
Jason and Alicia looked in Aurora’s direction as she waved, then grabbed Damon by the wrist and pulled him over to where the others were standing, smiling as they reached their mentors. The younger man looked at the pair with a cocky half smirk, then turned to Alicia.
Man: So, this is the team you two never seem to shut up about?
He scanned Aurora first, from her feet to her face, raising his eyebrow as he smiled. He then turned to Damon, flashing him a cheesy grin of approval before mouthing the words “you lucky fucker.” Damon returned the grin with a smirk of his own, as if to say “you’re damn right!”
Alicia: Tristan Kruise, I’d like you to meet the Redemption Wrestling Tag Team Champions – Aurora and Damon Graves. Damon and Aurora, this is a long-time friend of the family – and someone I like to think of as my other, more annoying brother – Tristan...
Aurora: Tristan Kruise... trust me. Alicia talked about you non-stop on the flight over here.
She paused, looking around the room with a curious look on her face.
Aurora: No kids?
Tristan shook his head.
Tristan: They’re with my wife Jamie. We’ve got a little girl about a year older than Alleria, so the twins will have someone to play with while Jamie gets to fuss over another infant.
Jason: Careful... Jamie may try and talk you into having another one.
Alicia: That is, if having to chase after a toddler and two preschoolers doesn’t burn her out on the idea of more kids.
Tristan looked at Alicia with his eyes open wide, as if he was shocked at the passage of time.
Tristan: Has it really been that long? How old are they now?
Alicia: The twins will be five in November. Granted, they were SUPPOSED to be born in December....
Alicia feigned a look of disapproval as she stood with one hand on her hip, waggling her finger at Tristan with the other hand. Damon looked on, confused.
Damon: Um... does someone want to clue us in, here?
Tristan grinned sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his head.
Tristan: Long story, but I... may have had a little bit of a hand in speeding up their arrival. But it’s not like I meant to do that...
Alicia: Yeah, yeah... water under the bridge and all that shit. Besides, twins are generally born early anyway. In any event, we brought Aurora and Damon here so that they could get a taste of the in-ring mayhem that you have so often put on display.
Tristan: Alright, but first, I gotta ask. Did you ever get any of those bathrobes back from Gray Malone? Also, do you still keep that boot around... the one with the barbed wire?
Alicia: Are you still buying out every retail outlet’s supply of kiddy pools?
Tristan flashed another cheesy grin.
Tristan: Aww, Ally... you remembered!
Damon: What’s he talking about? Kiddy pools?
Jason: Long story. Perhaps while we’re out here, Tristan will regale you with the tales of the many pranks he used to play on some of the other wrestlers...
Damon: Oh, now this should be interesting...
Tristan: Hey, you took part in some of them, too, Jason!
Jason: It’s true, I did. And so did Alicia.
Aurora: Oh really?
Alicia: Alright, people. Did we come here to shoot the shit about the past, or did we come here to train?
Damon: FINALLY! Time to get down to business!
Tristan turned to Damon as the tattooed superstar groaned impatiently. He let out a quiet chuckle.
Tristan: You remind me of another impatient asshole that I know of...
Jason: HEY! I resemble that remark!
Damon: He’s right, though... you ARE an asshole!
Alicia: Why do you think I married him?
Aurora: Wait a minute, Alicia; I thought it was because he did that thing with his –
Tristan: DUDE! TMI!
He made a gesture as if he was going to vomit, then looked at Aurora and smiled.
Tristan: On second thought, I like you...
He turned to Damon, cocking his head to the side.
Tristan: Jury’s still out on you, though. You remind me too much of THIS big shithead! You sure you’re not related?
He pointed in Jason’s general direction, to which the raven-haired behemoth remarked with a light scoff.
Damon: Positive. Believe me... I WISH my father was one one-hundredth of the man that Jason is.
Jason: Thanks... I think.
Damon and Aurora walked ahead of the group towards a wrestling ring set up on the far end of the room. Jason and Alicia started to follow, but Tristan stood back, reaching out to grab Alicia by the shoulder.
Tristan: That reminds me... Jason, Ally, after we’re done here, there’s something I want to talk with you about.
Jason: Sure thing. But let’s get this out of the way first.
Tristan: Right. Got the ring set up over here. I’m eager to see what these champs of yours can do inside those ropes.
Jason chuckled as the trio of old friends followed Damon and Aurora to the ring. Tristan climbed into the ring to find Damon already standing in the opposite corner, throwing a few practice punches into his wife’s waiting hands.
Tristan: Alright, Damon... you first. Show me what you’ve got....
Damon: I’m gonna enjoy this....
Alicia: Famous...
Jason: Last...
Alicia & Jason: Words.
