Scene 001
Off Camera
Not too long after his recording, Alechs heads down the sidewalk heading towards the spot where Arturo was shot. Alechs can remember it like it happened yesterday.
Pop. Pop. Pop. Pop.
Four gunshots, and the screech of tires as the car drove away.
Scene 002
FLASHBACK - Off Camera
Alechs hears a commotion outside, and a series of gunshots. It was not uncommon to hear gunshots, but he checked around the apartment and Antonio and Alerie were home. Arturo was not. Alechs decided to check to Juarez family next door; Arturo was over there a lot. He knocked on the door and Miss Juarez answered. Arturo was not there. Alechs decided to head downstairs and see if Arturo was hanging with buddies or goofing off. No rush at all, Alechs rode the elevator down from the 27th floor. Once downstairs, he saw a commotion and a bunch of people freaking out. He walked up to a couple of the bangers that were friends with the Aurelio boys.
Alechs: Hey man, what’s poppin’?
Luis: Alechs… man… I am so sorry… I sent Carmen up to get your mom. Those 7-9 fuckers rolled up on us, and they popped him.
Confused, Alechs steps forward. It was Arturo. He was shot.
Alechs: Arturo! Man, just relax.
He yells.
Alechs: Someone call 911! Hurry!
Older Man: You know they will take forever. They don’t care about us, here.
Alechs grabs and lifts Arturo up.
Alechs: Can someone drive me, please? He is bleeding out!
Alechs puts pressure on the wound.
Luis: Come on man, I’ll drive. Get in back.
They hurry over to Luis’ car and Alechs gets into the back. Alechs yells to the crowd.
Alechs: Tell my ma we are going to the hospital!
Luis takes off, nearly crashing the car into a series of parked cars along the way.
Scene 003
Off Camera
Alechs walks to the very spot where he held Arturo. He can picture it all. Seeing his brother alive in his last moments. The toll that can take on a person. This is a part of his life that Honey never needed to see. She was too fragile. Too pure. Too… Honey. He never wanted to break her spirit. He had to leave this left behind. Leave a part of himself behind. It was for the best. She was more than worth it. She made him better. And he needed her to save him.
She would never know it, but if it weren’t for her who knows where Alechs would be right now.
She was there to push him to join Redemption. He had become more separated from society after having his heart broken before by a friend, but Honey was always honest to a fault with him. She would let him know exactly how he felt, and he loved that. She was real. She might not be the same sort of realism he was used to, but she was never someone that pretended to be someone or something else.
They were a team. She was the Ying to his Yang. They balanced each other.
It was in his best interest to put this life behind him.
Closing his eyes and saying a silent word to Arturo, Alechs vowed to do right by his family and not return to this place again. He was better off now, and should act like it.
