*We open as Avery Miles III is working inside of the ring with an unknown sparring partner. Over a week early, Miles seems to be focused on the task at hand. At WrestleForce, he will wrestle his last match in Redemption Wrestling. It will be against the one man that he has considered a rival, and used to consider a friend. That man is Gavin Grimes. Preparing for that match, Avery is putting in extra time and doing all that he can to get in as much work as possible. In just over a week, he faces a man that is not only well decorated in terms of championships, but it a stellar competitor; Johnny Maverick. Maverick has his own dealing with Danny Hall. And last week both men, Avery and Johnny, were forced to team up with their WrestleForce opponent. Avery and Gavin reluctantly worked together and picked up the win. Meanwhile, it was Johnny Maverick that screwed over his tag team partner and cost him the match. Does a loss hurt? Nah. Johnny knew what he was doing and Avery applauds it. Bucking the system. Avery gives him kudos for that. Avery stops his sparring as he leans over the top rope and catches his breath. Pulling out his phone, he decides to record something.*
Another week, and another match. I face a man that has been disrespected in this company. The same man that was disrespected in Indy Pro Wrestling. Yet, he became a champion there. And once he gets a fair fucking shot, will be a champion here too. Devlin Scott is on his high horse and likes to try to play God with his talent. I am far from a cheerleader for Johnny, but I goddamn respect the man and what he’s done. No bullshit. No jokes. Just truth.
I am not looking to become best friends, or find a tag team partner. But game respects game. I still intend on winning our match, and it is nothing personal at all. Just business, Maverick. And I am sure you intend the same thing. I don't feel like underhanded attempts to win this match are needed because the both of us can enter the ring and show the entire roster why the two of us should be wearing gold around our waist. For me, my own Redemption ends at WrestleForce. But for you? I am sure if you kick in enough doors, you will earn that time. And that shot.
This company has long held onto the history of something great while trying to be something new and different. Scabs like Levi Daughterty, Gray Malone, and Corey Bull among others have come and gone. And me? I am going the same. I am getting the fuck out of this place. It is NOT the company that I knew. It is not the company that I helped to build from the ground up. This is not the company in which I held two titles at once. And it is a far scream from the company that was actually respected. There are so many areas in which this company can be improved, and instead we see a meddling owner stick his nose into the business of real talent like Jack Tillman and strip a man of his title. Tillman did what he did because a competitor did not deserve it. And yet he is suspended. Who knows what Devlin’s plans are for his future? I guess one can only wait and see. But what a shit plan that is. Wait and see.
This match is not about Miles vs Maverick. It is not about former champions battling on even ground. It is about bucking the system. Maverick has his issues with Scott, and fought Devlin like a fucking man. I don’t have the same need, so when I decided to give notice, all that I got was some signed documents. There were no attempts to keep me or plead me to stay. That is what loyalty gets you. And yet guys like Gavin Grimes that wants to shit all over people? He gets everything he wants. Yeah, yeah. He was the NGW Unified Champion. But the same man that faced a young man that I trained, Alechs Aurelio, last week. Alechs was excited for the opportunity and could not wait for him. You know what Gavin said?
“But the fact of the matter is, you are going to get fucked.”
The man that defends the honor of NGW. The same man that is supposed to be this mighty talent in wrestling. And he is telling a young up and comer that has NO threat to him, he is going to get fucked? It is assholes like Gavin Grimes that have caused me to realize being nice is going to get me nowhere. Guys like Gavin Grimes has shown that being a nice guy does make you finish last. You need to grab your career by the balls and just do what needs to be done.
Johnny Maverick did just that. And he beat the shit out of the boss.
Maybe I need to fight the boss. And beat the living shit out of him.
*Avery gives an wide grin.*
Gavin claims to have been my friend. And yet, we saw what happened with him, Ashleigh, Dead Eye, and Karin. Why should I have expected any different for myself? It was a wake up call. A kick right to the teeth. But I guess as with many things, the saying is true.
‘Cuz don’t you know, true friends stab you in the front.
*WIth that Avery motions for the sparring partner to get back into the ring. Avery loosens up and stretches, ready to continue his training. Just a week away from his second to last Glory. And under two months until WrestleForce. This was Avery’s time to shine. And it was Avery’s time to show just why he should be taken seriously.*
