Yujiro Fujiwara was oddly at peace.
His tour with Divine Pro would be ending soon, meaning he’d had a short rest period. He wasn’t scheduled for Redemption Wrestling this upcoming week. His wife didn’t have to coach instruct her soccer team that day, so they got a chance to bound and relax. And lastly, he’d been enjoying a delicious triple-layer burger, courtesy of 25 Degrees.
He was living the life, so to speak.
While he admitted to admit it, Yujiro was very high strung (especially when it came to wrestling). His grandfather and father were the exact same—it ran in the blood. The Fujiwaras would become entrapped in the battles, so enamored in the fight that they sometimes forget who they were. When that occurred, Yujiro always found it best to take a step back and experience a day of relaxation.
“It’s kind of nice having my husband around for once, you know,” Tammy said as she took a seat next to Yujiro on the couch. An ornately decorated burger rested on the coffee table in front of her as well. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that you get to go out there and wrestle again. I know that will always be your heart. But, I’ve missed our copious amounts of personal bonding time,” she said with a giggle.
“Really? I assumed that you rejoiced to the heavens when I decided to wrestle again,” he teased as he reached out a grabbed couple of sweet potato fries.
“Perhaps I did...but not for the reason you think.” She snuggled up next to him a bit. “Yujiro, you and I have know each other since undergrad. I know you, and you know me. I know that you enjoyed teaching at Flex’s dojo; it provided an awesome salary, and you continued to be close to wrestling. However, deep down, I also know that you weren’t truly content.
“I’m not a wrestler; I’m not really built for that sort of life,” she said accompanied by a small laugh. “But, I’ve been an athlete ever since you meet me…”
“A highly competitive one, I might add.”
“Yeah, yeah,” she responded. “Now hush, you’re killing my flow.
“What I was saying is, I know that feeling that you were going through. You’re right, I love competition, just as you do. And as a competitor, I know it sucks balls when you are posted up and stuck watching from the sidelines. However, it sucks balls even more when you don’t have to.”
“I suppose you are correct.” Yujiro nodded his head. “Yes, indeed.”
“Teaching those students brought you joy. But, I can tell that it was also bringing you a bit of pain as well. Not because you were bitter and wanted to see them fail; no, you wanted them to all thrive. However, you also wanted to be out there yourself.”
“You are not incorrect,” Yujiro replied.
He grabbed a couple of more fries as his brain churned. After he’d finished, he let out a small sigh.
“What I’m about to tell you won’t come as a surprise. You always know what I’m thinking anyway.” He nodded. “I, well, I suppose I felt I didn’t deserve to be out there wrestling a the time.”
He paused for a moment. “It’s difficult to explain, and probably even harder to grasp. Nonetheless, well, I did not end my first run in the sport with a high note. I won two world titles, but of course. However, after that—
“Well, I did a lot of stupid things.” He paused once more. “In a weird way, I almost viewed teaching and training as a way of penance.” He leaned back a bit. “Yes, that’s a fucked up way to look at it. However, that’s how I felt at the time.”
“Hmmm, that’s certainly an interesting way to look at things,” his wife responded. “But, I’m not going to say it was wrong. You felt as if you fucked up; and, you wanted to to do your best to make up for it. And instead of doing something passive, like donating money, you decided to donate your body and mind.” She reached out and placed her hand on top of his. “Still sounds like a noble cause, to me anyway.”
“I, I guess…”
“Hey—it doesn’t matter now. What’s done is done. Now, you get to enjoy the best of both world’s. You get to go out there and live your dream night in and night out. And when you have spare time, you get into instill into the students. It’s a win-win, yeah?”
He nodded. “Yeah, I suppose you’re right.”
Tammy patted him on the shoulder. “Now, enough talking for now. Let’s get into this food. I’m famish.”
Good evening everyone out there. I’m attempting to be a bit more consistent with this whole introduction speel. So, allow me to get to it really quickly. For those of you all who do not know the sound of my voice by now, my name is Yujiro Fujiwara…
And, in truth, you all are probably wondering why I’m going to you with an audio log this week. You see, in a rare chance of events, I am not booked for Redemption wrestling upcoming event. You may check the website if you’d like, but you will come up with nothing.
Now, many people in my situation would be highly upset. I for one, am not. In my heart of hearts, I’m nothing more than a true competitor—that fact has been proven time and time again in Redemption. However, even the fiercest of competitors needs a bit of rest, here and again.
However, as I rest and recover, I’d like to speak a few words. Do not worry, they will be in passing, and I shall not take long.
Ladies and gentlemen, I know how the sport of professional wrestling moves and operates. It is a constant sea of ebbs and flows. Sometimes, a person shall be on top. Sometimes a person will ride on Cloud Nine for what seems to be an indefinite amount of time—and then this grand sport sends them tumbling on their heads. Conversely, person might find themselves wallowing through the mire for a bit of time. And then suddenly, they find themselves thrusted upward…
I’ve suffered humiliation and defeat of the past few matches. Nevertheless, I shall not let the efforts of the insecure and petty kill my drive. Regardless of what anyone think or feels about me, I’ll continue to press on because that the nature of my character.
At the end of the day, I know who I am—a fighter.
Ask yourself that very question? See if you can stack up next me. And as terrible as it might sound, many of you in the promotion cannot.
