I don’t remember much from life before living with my Gram. I was only three when the accident happened. It’s a miracle that I even survived the accident myself. I guess it’s true what they say about those car seats for kids.
I remember bits and pieces about my mom. That she had really lovely blonde hair and bright green eyes. I remember that she was always smiling and hugging me. Kissing my head and telling me how loved I was. I guess that’s why I am not as messed up as some people might be having lost their parents so young.
My Dad... well I don’t remember as much. He was always travelling for business but the memories I do have, I know how much he loved me too. He would have me ride on his shoulders. I remember we went to a carnival the day before the accident and he stood beside me while I rode a big white horse on the carousel.
My Gram, well she wasn’t a soft as they were. She was harder on me, more restrictive but I know it was because she loved me in her own way. She always tried to protect me from things and after the accident, after it took her son away, It affected her so badly. I have never done anything to make her worry.. Until now.

:::OFF CAMERA:::
A single bare bulb illuminates a bare bones basement. In one corner is a beat up punching bag, duct tape keeping it together. The floor is covered in soft rubber mats and there is a work bench with a bunch of mismatched weights on a wooden rack. On the mats to the side is the prone form of Lilly Parker. She is staring up at the ceiling, the wood joists exposed. She sighs deeply before closing her eyes, placing her hands on her chest and letting the air slowly expel from her lungs.
“Lilly?” The older voice of the infamous Gram comes from the top of the stairs. Lilly’s eyes pop open and she sits up.
“Yes Gram?”
The sound of feet on the stairs and then the older woman is at the semi landing that breaks up and changes the direction the stairs go. She’s wearing a checkered apron and fuzzy slippers. Her dark hair is mostly grey now but her face doesn’t look like it belongs to someone old enough to be the grandmother of a twenty-one year old girl.
“Supper is almost ready, you better get cleaned up.”
Lilly nods and stands. The senior Lillian stares at her granddaughter. The healing line on her forehead, the bruises on her arms and legs. The welts.
“I still don’t like this Lilly. I remember when you wanted to teach kindergarten.”
Lilly smiles, softly shaking her head.
“Maybe when I am done wrestling, I will go and get certification to do that but for now, I have to do what is in my heart.”
Gram doesn’t seem too happy with that but she lightly shrugs her shoulders.
“Wash your hands and put on some decent clothes, I don’t want you coming to my dinner table half naked. I cringe seeing you jump around that ring wearing what you do... it’s disgraceful.”
“Grams... We talked about this...”
She waves her granddaughter off. “Yes, Yes. I know. It could be worse. But you know me. I’m just an old woman with old fashioned views.”
Lilly walks to the foot of the stairs. “Grams, you know that I love your views. It has morals and values and not many people still have those. I have you to thank for how good I turned out. I wouldn’t change anything.”
Gram’s eyes get glassy but she keeps a stiff upper lip.
“Yeah well... be quick about it. Roast is getting cold.”
She turns, going up the stairs and leaving Lilly standing at the bottom. Lilly smiles, shaking her head lightly before walking to the section of the basement she used as a bedroom. There was a small bathroom with a stand up shower. It needed updating but it was better than the small bedroom she had grown up in upstairs. She breathes deeply again before looking up into the mirror above the sink.
“I am going to prove I am worthy and I WILL not let anyone break me. Not even Zach.”

:::ON CAMERA:::
The camera focuses in on the face of a full sized Dalmatian. He turns to look at the camera with full soft brown eyes and his mouth opens in a dog ‘smile’.
“Mr. Dante. Are you a happy puppy?”
The dogs panting increases and he nudges the camera with his head. It is the voice of Lilly Parker behind the camera.
“That’s right you are Mr. Dante. And I know that Mrs. Pitakiss is really happy that I get to take her baby for walks every day I am home. It’s too bad that she’s under the weather and can’t take you for a walk because you are such a joy.”
The Dog Barks and Lilly giggles.
“Well Mr. Dante... what do you think of your bestie-best friend Lilly’s opponents this week?”
The dog growls, curling his upper lip.
“There there Mr. Dante. It’s okay. Best Friend Lilly is going to make sure that they do not do anything they aren’t supposed to in the ring. Plus she’s got Alechs and Honey there to back her up.”
The dog gives another happy bark.
“I’ve learned something big Mr.Dante. I learned that it’s okay to be scared of things but in the end, conquering those fears is what matters. I really did have a phobia of blood but after talking to that nice doctor, he gave me some really helpful tips on how to get over that. So as much as Rebel things that all he has to do to win this match is throw a blood stained towel at me, well he’s got another thing coming.”
The dog barks again in agreement.
“That’s right Mr.Dante. Both Alechs and Honey are already a good match for partners and I compliment them both. We are fast and young but best of all we are friends. We are on the save wavelength whereas Rebel, Red Dragon and Nightshade are just three meanie faces thrown together. Cohesion as a team means so much. Red Dragon talks about what it means to be a survivor... these last few weeks I have had to really face what it means to be a survivor myself. I survived a near fatal crash when my parents didn’t. I survived a match that went after my greatest fear and I survived losing a title opportunity that I worked hard to earn. I learned that I need to be stronger, tougher and face everything head on. I will do just that and with people like Honey and Alechs... we totally got this. Right Mr.Dante?”
The dog jumps up and starts running around in circles and prancing. Lilly giggles again.
“I know Mr.Dante. It is totally time to show everyone why Lilly Parker is not the same girl anymore... well... Not the same when it comes to the things that had me at anyone’s mercy. The Young Cubs Totesily got this.”
