July 26th
Dave and Buster's, Torrance, CA
The current vanguards of the Kamekona family, Kimo, Kate, Nick, Jenny, and Aaron, along with the family matriach, Barbara are celebrating the 3rd birthday of Nick's oldest daughter, Leah, along with several of Jenny's relatives, who emigrated to the US from China 20 years ago.
Kate: So how's the restaurant coming along, Jenny.
Jenny: Pretty good. We're about to open soon. Dad finally found a sous chef that could keep up with him.
Nick: Yeah, it only took two years.
Jenny: Hey he's really serious when it comes to his cooking. Have you ever worked in a professional kitcen?
The birthday girl walks up to her new aunt, Kate with a teddy bear she got as one of her presents.
Kate: Hi, Leah. Happy Birthday babygirl.(Leah shows her her new teddy bear) Whatcha got there *gasps* did you just get that? That is a very nice bear. You gonna take care of it? (Leah nods) Atta girl, now c'mere you.
She picks her new niece up.
Leah: Where you from?
Kate: Where am I from? Well, like your mum's family, I'm from a place far away, too.
Leah: What it called?
Kate: It's a place called Ireland. It's right next to another island called England.
Leah: Is next to China?
Kate: No, little col. It's in a different part of the world.
Jenny: Col?
Kate: It's Irish for "Dove."
Jenny: Aww...
Kimo: C'mon dude, theres an open pool table. Ready to lose like last time.
Nick: You won only because I scratched on the 8 ball.
Kimo: Well, try and keep that from happening this time.
Nick: Oh, you are so on. Babe I'll be right back.
Jenny: I got the next game, butthole.
June 28th
Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, Yuba City, CA.
After a gruelling 7 hour drive. The two finally make it to the venue.
The two are standing in the doorway of the main hall, watching the road crew finish setting up the ring.
Kimo: There it is. Just a few hours from now you'll be on the other side of those ropes.
Kate: I still can't believe it
Kimo: What?
Kate: That I'm finally doing it. Wrestling in America is something I've always wanted to do since I left Ireland. Now, I have my chance. My first match in America, and its against Danielle Basch, a textbook "trial by fire."
Kimo: You know, there is an old Indian proverb that I think would help. "Aag ki jwaalao se hee rait baney loha."
Kate: That's great, but what does that mean?
Kimo: "Only through enduring the test of fire, can iron be forged." You learn how to wrestle here by facing the best. Think of yourself as a lump of ore, and the ring is the smelter. In the end, you either come out as iron or slag. Which one it will be depends on you. I gotta go get ready. I'll see you backstage.
Kate: Alright babe.
Kate turns to the camera.
Kate: Is it nerves, or excitement. Well, Danielle, to tell the truth, I cant really tell myself at this point. I mean, here I am, about to live my dream against the very person who is the specific reason I came to this America. I wanted to see if I had what it takes to keep up with someone like you, and now I finally have that chance.
I left the Irish circuit because there was nothing left for me to do there, I already beaten all the people I could possibly beat. And then I saw one of your matches for the first time and I was awestruck. I had a new goal to meet, a new challenge to face. I wanted to stand in the same ring as you, on the same level as you. I wanted to be your equal.
Man, this must be how Jason Miller felt before he fought against Sakuraba. Thats one of Pete's favorite fights, that and when Rampage Jackson powerbombed Ricardo Arona, but that's beside the point I'm trying to make.
Now I may look up to you, but that is not going to stop me from coming at you with nothing but 110%. I'm not even going to ask you to do the same because that's what you do on a regular basis.
And I agree with you 100% on this match. It doesn't matter whether you're best friends or the worst of enemies, your oponent is that one obstacle standing between you and Victory. And until our match is over, that is all you are to me.
So without further ado, its time for the One Winged Angel to take flight once again.
GAME ON!
