Days before his match, Austen Blackwell has taken up space inside of a local facility in Oceanside, California. He rented it out for his own use. He decided against using the WCG facility in Long Beach. Austen is inside of a ring that is set up in the middle of the ring. Blackwell hits the ropes as he comes off of them flying, connecting to an unnamed man in the middle of the ring. Austen heads up to the corner and leaps off looking for a moonsault, but crashes and burns just as his wife Mercedes Blackwell walks into the gym. She wanted to surprise him with lunch. Austen reaches out and tries to get up to his feet, as she feels how badly he is sweating already. Pushing himself to his own limits, Austen knows that he has to do everything in his power for his match with Jimmy Pagan.
Mercedes: Babe you need to take a break. You are pushing yourself too hard.
Mercedes looks at him, as she sighs softly. The man backs off.
Austen: No, we aren’t finished.
Austen pushes up to his feet. He runs and hits a running dropkick to the other man, sending him back first into the corner. The man takes the hit hard, and holds his back.
Austen: Get up. Come on!
Austen yells at him.
Mercedes: AUSTEN THAT IS ENOUGH.
Mercedes yells out at him. She could tell that the guy was hurting. She moves to the ring, trying to get into it.
Mercedes: You are going to injure him, or yourself. Relax, now.
Mercedes gets into Austen’s face, as he cannot seem to catch his breath.
Austen: WHAT? I NEED TO PREPARE FOR JIMMY! YOU THINK HE IS GOING TO TAKE IT EASY ON ME? YOU KNOW WHAT HE IS CAPABLE OF!
Austen starts to hyperventilate some.Mercedes places a hand on his shoulder.
Mercedes: Austen, breath babe. Calm down. Don’t think about this other stuff, just listen to my voice.
Mercedes tries to calm him down some. He starts to breathe deeply. It was obvious he was focused and this was stressing him out.
Austen: I just….. Pagan….. Match….. Saturday….
Mercedes nods her head yes.
Mercedes: Yes but Austen you don’t need to keep doing this. What happens if you get hurt? What happens if you push yourself so hard, you are too exhausted for the match?
Austen: I can’t….
He exhales.
Austen: I cannot give up. I need to push myself. I cannot lose. If I do… I will be a laughing stock. I cannot allow him to get the best of me. That me out there in the ring? He is fearless. This me? I… what did I get myself into?
Mercedes: You will not be a laughing stock. Hurting yourself will make you one. Austen stop worrying about the match, and pushing yourself. For me please.
Mercedes was trying to get through to him. He looks off to the side as Mercedes grabs his face with her hand to plead to him.
Mercedes: Austen look at me. I am saying this as your wife. If you love me, you will stop pushing yourself so hard and risk injuring yourself or someone else.
Austen nods at her, as he leans into her shoulder obviously overwhelmed with so much. She wraps her arms around his shoulders.
Mercedes: We should get you into the showers, cool off some, get dressed, and home to relax.
Austen: I.. I am sorry Mercedes…
It was clear that he was over exhausted, overworked, and pushing himself too hard.
Mercedes: It’s okay Austen. Come on, let’s get going.
She starts walking with him to the ropes. Austen follows her as the two of them head out of the ring and down to the floor. Mercedes helps him towards the showers as the man Austen was wrestling grabs his stuff to clean himself up as well.
