It happened so fast. Boom, Tasmin Richards was in the ring. Boom, Remi Fontaine attacked her. Boom, Adam Sanders came running down to check on her. Then...it was almost like an out of body experience. It was almost like he was watching someone else do what his subconscious secretly wanted to do.
He kissed her…
And what’s more, she kissed him back. Oh, did I mention this happened in front of everyone who showed up at the Long Beach Convention Center and tuned in at home to West Coast Genesis Unscripted? Not exactly a situation Adam Sanders thought he would find himself in. But he has to figure out what’s going to happen next.
“So, at some point, I guess we better address the elephant in the room, right?”
Adam Sanders speaks almost in a whisper, to make sure that this conversation stays between the two of them. Immediately after the show was over, Adam and Tasmin decided it was a good idea for them to talk about what happened over some sandwiches. So they went to the nearest Firehouse Subs, grabbed a couple of sandwiches, and found a seat on the beach. The moon and a few street lights illuminated their conversation and they had the beach almost to themselves. The occasional dog walker and jogger passed by, but that was it for the most part.
Adam looks back up at Tasmin before elaborating a little bit more on his question.
Adam: “I...didn't expect me to kiss you like that in front of so many people. But...I did want to kiss you…”
Adam was nervous as he admits to wanting to kiss Tasmin but finally gets the words out. Tasmin remains looking down, the confidence she had at the show kissing him back seemed all but gone as she swallows hard and giggles under her breath.
Tasmin: “It wasn’t planned. But you kissed me and I felt...I mean I wanted...Adam, I’ve wanted to kiss you for a while, to tell you I actually felt something…I just wasn’t sure you felt the same way…”
Adam takes a deep breath.
Adam: “This started off as both of us trying to be there for one another through our respective breakups. Mine with Izzy and yours with Jason.”
The former Long Beach Champion runs his hands through his hair to try to quell his anxiety discussing this topic.
Adam: “Did we really develop crushes like this?”
It was almost a rhetorical question but Tasmin answered it anyway.
Tasmin: “We were both in bad places but we were there for each other. I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done but...we’re more than friends, Adam.”
She blushes red as her hands seem to clasp together and her body language opens up a little bringing herself to look at him.
Tasmin: “You’re amazing.”
Adam: “You’re amazing. And...clearly, we’re not just friends. I don’t think you would have flown all the way across the country with your sister’s stolen...I mean, borrowed credit card to track me down if we were. And you wouldn’t have stepped into that ring and started saying those things at Remi if we were either. But...if we’re not friends...what are we?”
The question catches Tasmin off guard, not expecting it to come from Adam. She stutters for a moment and gives it some thought.
Tasmin: “Well, I don’t know. I know what I’d like to be. But I’m scared. I’m scared that if I say it you won’t be ready or won’t want it. I want to be with you. A real relationship…”
This time, it’s Adam who gets feeling a bit surprised by Tasmin’s assertion.
Adam: “Why would you be scared though?”
In a way, Adam feels a bit relieved because the words she said was on his mind. But what he doesn’t comprehend is why she would be the one scared over all of this.
Adam: “The night you found me. Do you remember how you fell asleep on the sofa?”
Tasmin: “I do…but us being friends and supporting each other is different than being in a relationship. The last thing I’d ever want is to hurt you.”
Her voice lowered to almost a whisper.
Adam: “I got a reason to ask this, just follow me. Do you remember where you were when you woke up after you fell asleep on the couch?”
Tasmin: “Yes…in…your bed…”
Adam: “I carried you to the bed. But before that, while you were asleep, I felt...brave enough to say what was really on my mind. Something I was too scared to tell you when you were in a state to be able to hear me…”
Tasmin: “What did you say…?”
Adam: “I mentioned how you changed my life when we started spending time with one another. All the stuff we’ve done together since this started has been some of the best moments I could remember.”
He pauses again like he paused when he said this to her before, remembering she’s now actually able to hear him.
Adam: “I said I hoped I could find a way to make you feel appreciated and realize how important you have become to me. Then I said I hope you’re in my life a long time. Then I kissed your forehead, tucked you in, got in the bed next to you, and you curled up next to me and said my name as you were dreaming…”
There it was. The whole story. And now Adam can feel his heart racing as he looks back up to Tasmin to see if there are nonverbal cues for him to try to read. Not exactly a skill he’s mastered…
Tasmin: “I thought I dreamed that.”
She nervously chuckles and swallows hard again trying to keep her emotions in check. Her heart beating faster and faster before realising leaving Adam on that note must have been terrifying.
Tasmin: “I want to be with you. I want to call you my boyfriend and hold your hand and giggle when you look at me and do all that stuff we already do but with more meaning. I want to make you happy.”
Adam: “I would be extremely lucky if I had a girlfriend like you. You think we’re ready after our breakups?”
Adam takes a deep breath, knowing that wasn’t what she was wanting to hear.
Adam: “You as my girlfriend. I...I would love that, honestly…”
Tasmin’s face turned red again, her hands moved up under her chin as she just smiled and awkwardly laughed.
Tasmin: “Just the word turns me into a loon. I think honestly. If we’re having this conversation then we’re ready. Besides, we just had our first two real kisses in front of the entire wrestling world.”
Adam’s now the one turning red as he thinks about kissing Tasmin in front of all those people.
Adam: “We...umm...did do that, didn’t we? Was that...too bold of me? Like…”
He begins stumbling on his own words a little bit, obviously nervous about this conversation.
Adam: “Should I have maybe done that when we were backstage or at the apartment or…”
Tasmin, thankfully, spares him from continuing on this tangent of his. She grabs him pulling him into another kiss, this one even deeper than any public one in a ring.
Tasmin: “You overthink things. I’m yours, Adam. You hear me? Yours.”
Adam has a hard time forming any kind of sentence after being grabbed with yet another kiss. He was shocked...but clearly liked it.
Adam: “I...I...I…”
He finally gets the courage to talk again after telling himself to be brave.
Adam: “I do hear you. And...you’re mine…”
Tasmin just giggles again like a lunatic before turning her head and placing it on his chest staying silent and listening to his heartbeat.
Adam: “So...we’re dating now…”
Adam feels his heart stabilizing a little bit.
Adam: “Do you think we should keep sharing a bed like that since this is so new to us or…”
Tasmin: “You’re so getting laid tonight….”
Adam: “Wait, what did you say?”
Adam wasn’t sure what he just heard.
Tasmin: “What? Nothing. I didn’t say anything.”
Sanders blinks for a moment before just moving past it. He places an arm around his new girlfriend as they enjoy the sound of the ocean waves hitting the beach in the moonlight.

In the basement of an empty house
I slept on the floor like a vagrant
I braved a Minnesota winter night
And drove to a movie feeling lonely
And as I thawed my heart out by the light
Of the silver screen
I was unaware that you were there
In the dark, a silhouette
Was climbing up the stairs
And what I thought in the parking lot
Was like, I just wanna know your name
I drove away with not much to say
But in my hand, I held a paper bird
And written on it were the words
Be brave

Wildflower knew I wasn’t well
But on the kitchen floor, I got better again
I grabbed my keys and drove toward a star
And there, I was understood for the first time in my life
Cause that’s when I was introduced to true serendipity
I knew it when you showed up again
In the snow, I was always told
Your heart is where you’re home
And what I thought
In the coffee shop
Was like, the last eight hours was a dream
I drove away
With not much to say
But in my hand, I held a paper bird
And written on it were the words
Ok, I'll be brave
Ok, I'll be brave
