Days before WrestleForce, Avery Miles III was enjoying some time in between shows. Guerreros of Lucha had gone on hiatus, with Miles holding the Rey de Reyes Championship for the second time. The 4th of July was coming up. And the twins were settling as much as newborns could. Sleep was a luxury that neither Avery or Serenity were getting much of, but that was part of the job of being a parent.
Avery: Jacoby is down. How is Journey coming?
Serenity: Shhh. She is out.
Serenity lays Journey down. The two of them are able to grab a little break in-between feedings and crying. Avery plops down on the couch, obviously exhausted. The doors and windows were closed as the hot summer air was too much for the twins. Serenity slides onto the couch next to him as they both hear a car pulling up the long driveway.
Serenity: Who is it?
Avery stands up, and it was her. That sports car. She said that she would visit.
Avery: Serenity…
Serenity: Ave?
Avery: I thought I was seeing things.
Serenity: What- what are you talking about? You’ve been taking your meds, right?
Avery: Yeah. I promise I have. But I thought I kept seeing her.
Serenity: Her?
Avery: Zoe. I thought I kept seeing Zoe.
Serenity: Avery… she-
Avery: I know, angel. But… who is this?
Serenity looks as a raven haired woman walks up the stairs and onto the porch. She was wearing large sunglasses and carrying a large purse. She seems quite out of place for rural Georgia. She knocked on the door. Serenity stood up and looks out the window in the door. And at the wedding picture of Avery and Zoe. And then back at the woman. There was no way this way… it couldn’t be. Could it? Avery stands up and answers the door.
Avery: Hey.
Her: May I come in, Ave?
Only those that knew him, called him Ave.
Avery: Sure. Sure. Yes. Come in.
She steps in and smiles.
Her: And you must be Serenity.
Serenity: Hello.
She was unsure what to say.
Her: I know, I have a lot to explain.
She looks over the photos that are framed on the shelf just inside of the door.
Her: Zoe was lovely. Wasn’t she?
There is an awkward pause.
Avery: So… you aren’t….
She shakes her head no.
Her: No. I am not Zoe. My name is Quinn.
Avery: Quinn? I am not sure that we ever met.
Quinn: We didn’t. Well… you never met me. But Zoe talked all about you to me. She and I are cousins. The resemblance. People always thought we were twins.
Avery: I was thinking I was seeing things.
Quinn: I know. I know. I am sorry for that. It just… Zoe and I were close as kids. We drifted apart some just before you and became close and started dating.
Avery: But I knew her from the time that we were little…
Quinn: It’s a long story. I lived up North. I didn’t have the best parents. And was not allowed to speak to much of the family for a long time. I heard about the death of Zoe, and it hit me hard. I never got to see her get married. I never got to officially meet you. Other than the passing story on the off chance that her and I were able to talk in high school. She was head over heels for you.
Serenity: And why didn’t you ever reach out? All of this time has passed….
Serenity was doing her best to hold back.
Avery: Serenity…
Quinn: No, it’s fine. She is right. I just… it took me time to get through everything I was dealing with. And then I was ready. I heard about your charity function. But then I heard that you and Serenity were holding it together and I did not want to get in the way of that. I’ve been staying in Macon for some time, trying to reconnect with family as much as I can.
Avery: And you were visiting Zoe’s grave.
She nods. Avery steps forward and puts his arms around this woman that he saw as a stranger only minutes ago.
Avery: You are family, Quinn. Zoe would have wanted it that way.
Serenity was still unsure about the whole situation.
Quinn: Did you have the babies?
Serenity: We did. How did you-
Quinn: Word travels fast in a small town. Plus… you two are pretty active on social media.
She giggles a bit.
Avery: Please. Stay for dinner. I want us to catch up.
Quinn: Oh, no. I couldn’t.
She looked over at Serenity, but Avery could not read the room.
Avery: I insist. Family should be taken care of.
He smiles. Quinn offers a smile back. Serenity tries her best to smile.
