Mercedes: Welcome everyone to the next Mercedes Cares. My guest this month has been described as odd, but ambitious. He is the talented Wasabi. Thank you Wasabi for taking time out of your schedule. I want to start things off by asking why the name Wasabi? It is a very unusual name.
Wasabi: Well, I grew up as a military brat. My family moved around quite a bit overseas and we finally landed in Japan where I lived for almost ten years, from the age of 11 to 21. That’s where I found my passion for wrestling and where I also found a passion for spicy foods. I became a regular at a restaurant there called Wasabi and I was there so often that all my friends nicknamed me Wasabi. It stuck. What can I say, it’s unusual, it’s strange, but it’s also definitely unique.
Mercedes: That it is. I don’t know if I want to be called that, but it fits you. You are known for unusual things, what is the most unusual thing you have done?
Wasabi: I have been known as an unorthodox guy, so I’d say the time I had a match in ERW, where I fought against The Big Bad Brawler in a Burger King Brawl. We were locked inside a Burger King and we brawled all through the place. It was a disaster, but a lot of fun now that I look back on it. Sadly, ERW didn’t last but maybe a month after that. I’m sure the TV networks didn’t want to air anything like that again.
Mercedes: Have you ever thought of asking to do that match in another company? It does sound like a fun one.
Wasabi: Absolutely. I would love to do all kinds of stuff like that in WCG, I’m just not sure if there is an audience for that kind of thing there. I love WCG and I’d hate to ruin the good reputation I’ve slowly been building by doing something that everyone else would think diminishes the product. However, if they really want to see me do some of the crazy matches I’m known for, I have an entire list of stuff that I can start working through. Hell, I’d love it.
Mercedes: What kind of crazy matches? Never know, one might get used.
Wasabi: ERW was one of those places that no one expected to last even a month. So they let me do whatever I wanted. I had a Supermarket wide brawl, me and another old frenemy Venom got into a best of 7 series over the ERW Extreme Hardcore Title and we had the following matches: Anarchy at Applebees, Carnage at Chuck E. Cheese, Wendy's Warfare, Terror at Taco Bell, Bank Vault Match, Escape from Outback Steakhouse, and it all ended with the Denny's Grand SLAM. They were a lot of fun and really made ERW something unique. Sadly, it didn’t last.
Mercedes: Sounds like a place doomed from the start, but at least you got to be part of it. You have seen the other members of the roster in matches, are there any you would really love to face?
Wasabi: Hell yeah. I would especially like to face off against the following: Anton, Miles, Blake, Trixie, Latimer, my favorite NGWer the Jew Blazer, Graves, Jones, Coda, Blackwell, Basch, Hunter, Young and Dimaria. There are a lot of people that I’d like to face off against, and I’m sure I’ll have plenty of time to do so.
Mercedes: Which Basch since Danni, and Donovan got married? Also if you could team with someone, who would you choose?
Wasabi: Danni. Although Donovan would also be fun to face off against. Now if I could team up with anyone, without a doubt it would be the Jew Blazer. That dude is the greatest of all time in my opinion. He gets the job done and doesn’t give a damn what people think. He’s out there showing everyone that it doesn’t matter what you look like, it’s what’s in your heart that matters. I would not only like to team with him, I’d want it to be a permanent thing. But I understand that he’s doing the singles thing, so while that’s disappointing, I know that he’ll do well there. So if I had to pick anyone else, it would be Avery Miles. He has had a great career, he is a huge star not only in NGW, but also in GOL, which is another place that I watch on TV all the time. Those two guys would be my top 2 picks without a doubt.
Mercedes: You mention a lot with NGW, is there a reason you didn’t go to NGW, instead of WCG?
Wasabi: Intimidation was the primary factor. I’m a new guy, a relative rookie around these parts. I don’t know anyone, I’m not friends with anyone in the business, so it’s tough to just make a big splash without looking like an arrogant little prick. The last thing I want to do is burn my bridge before I’ve even crossed over. That’s the primary reason. Also, I saw the career of Avery Miles and want to emulate it. He really made his name in IPW and NGW both, and I figured my best bet is to start in WCG, win those three titles and then move my way to the main show. Unless someone wants to form a tag team with me, then I’ll gladly work both shows.
Mercedes: That is actually a good way to look at things, work your way up. Going by that, means you want to face Shawn Young for his title first. Do you think he will retain it against Adam Sanders?
Wasabi: I do want to face off against Shawn Young, he’s one hell of a competitor and someone that I think I could have a great match with. That championship is the one that I am focusing on and want. We will see what happens. Now I am confident that he will be able to retain his title against Adam Sanders, but in this business, you just never know what will happen.
Mercedes: You’re right, anything can happen. Last month I asked both Josh, and Shawn if they could book a card, what would they book, the same thing to you. If you could book a card, any matches you wanted, what would you book?
Wasabi: Easy. NGW VS WCG. I’d pick the best of the best and face them off to see how things would fare. For that one show, I would set a prize of cash, a title opportunity, and bragging rights across both federations. It would be one hell of a show and something that I think both sides would enjoy a lot. As far as individual matches, well, I’ll keep that to myself, because you never know when I might get to book!
Mercedes: Smart move. Is there anything else you would like to say before I end this?
Wasabi: Just that I appreciate everyone giving me tips, pointers, and kicks to the head when I need them. Also, I know this is your show, but everyone be sure to check out this week’s sponsor, MAFIA PIZZA! They have delicious pizza that you’ll love, or you’ll be sleepin’ with the fishes!
Thanks Merc, I appreciate it!
Mercedes: It was interesting having you on here. Thank you for taking the time. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.
