“Mistakes….”
Alex chuckled to himself. His long hair tied back away from his face, a few blonde streaks from the right side flowed down as his arms crossed over his chest. He scoffed and let out a small laugh under his breath before speaking, his deep voice booming with an accent that didn’t lend itself to anywhere in particular bar a small Texan one at the end.
“This is what I get for showing you some respect Matt. See I get it, you’re insecure. See after all you’ve done in the last year from being one of the marquee names in Redemption and being the first Redemption Heavyweight Champion, to holding that belot for so long and making it mean something you’re still viewed in some circles as a joke, a failure. Believe me man I’ve seen it and I commented on it. I think it’s incredibly short sighted and stupid for people to talk as if your accomplishments and career have meant nothing.”
“But there comes a time when you need to put your big boy pants on and man up.”
“You have to stop caring what they think and just be you. Hell man it’s got to the point where you can’t take a compliment and look at the man you’re facing with the same respect that he’s shown you. You say you’re not underestimating me but you stood there with a straight face and said that you see fear in my eyes. Fear. In what world do I fear you?.l Matt I don’t fear anyone….”
Alex drops his arms with a sneer shaking his head.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m the type of guy who will tug on supermans cape, I’d punch Mike Tyson in the face in his prime, I’m the guy who when someone says it can’t be done says ”yo hold my beer”. That is what you’re dealing with Matt. You can say you’re the best wrestler in the world, talk about your title reign and remind us all that you did in fact best most of the roster time and time again but for you to have the audacity to look in my eyes and use a word like “fear”?....well...that shows that your underestimation rule is total bullshit…”
“Or wait, do I need luck on my side?. See that’s another thing Matthew. Luck is a word that arrogant assholes use to discount when someone beats them, or a word that those with no talent fall back on to justify a loss. I don’t believe in luck, I don’t believe in good or bad nights, I don’t believe in gods, deities, fates or anything else supernatural. I believe in two guys going out to the ring and beating the living hell out of one another till only one can stand back up again. I believe in wins, losses and evolving. I believe in the pure physical sport of wrestling….”
“Which is why it amused me so much when those fake bullshit artists came into Redemption, ran their mouths then ran off. I meant what I said Matt. About them running away. But I also meant what I said about me taking steps towards you, not away. I didn’t join Redemption just to think I can beat you and then jump the que.”
Alex shrugs and slides his hands into his pockets.
“I joined to face you, Cochrane, Fujiwara and hell even Blair and Mason Moore. I want to face the best of the best and show I still have it and I’m one of the best and sure I hope that path leads me to the Redemption title, who doesn’t?. I mean if you’re not in this business and a company to get the top championship and prove you’re the best then get the hell out and don’t come back cause pro wrestling ain’t for you….”
“And you’re the type of guy who knows that Shields. See one of the reasons I wanted to face you was also because honestly...we’re like minded when it comes to this business. The strive to be the best, the need to prove it. But where I am at that point in my career where I can honestly do what I want you’re still in that little pocket where you have a chip on your shoulder. I get it man and you can use that for motivation. Hell I’m not stupid as you put it. I know you’re going to come at me with everything you have, I’m going to step between those ropes and face a champion,”
“But you?. You’re going to step in that ring and face a legend. I’m not overstating that or talking myself up it’s a fact. I’m world renowned. A hall of famer, a guy who has won titles and tournaments around the world and who has done everything in his power to be more than just an average name floating around the business. I’ve gone face to face with some of the toughest, baddest men to lace up a pair of boots and Glory will be no different….”
“I don’t need a lesson in how much of a bad ass you are Shields. Even with the whole king thing when there was something wrong with you mentally you were one of the best. But you and I are going to get in that ring and dance, we’re going to go face to face and in the end we will have the answer to that question. Just what happens when a King faces a Dragon?. Who is better out of The King of the Heavyweights Matthew Shields and The Black Dragon Alex Jones?”
“One match will never answer it, but we can still start it off right?. Let’s see who can fire the first shot, who can win the first battle in the war. Cause unlike those other douchebags I’m not going anywhere. I’m not going to run, I’m not going to go join Empire or The Grounds to get away from you. I’m staying here in redemption, cause brick by brick I’m going to tear down the house that Matt Shields built...and make it better, bigger...more successful….”
