***** ON CAMERA *****
Matt Shields stands in front of a bright red heavy bag, driving a few hard kicks in to it. He's dressed simple, black shorts, and a Destroyers t-shirt with the sleeves cut off. he grabs a bottle of water, takes a few sips, and then looks at the camera. A few drops of sweat drip from his forehead, but he ignores it as he looks straight ahead.
"You know what the biggest mistake you can make is, when it comes to a fight? Underestimating your opponent. We've seen it happen throughout history. Goliath looked down at David, thought nothing of him, caught a rock between the eyes and wound up dead. Those damn Russians came over to the US back in the eighties, thought nothing of Team USA, then four goals later, we were all asked if we believed in miracles. Tyson looked at Buster Douglas as an easy fight, and then got his ass knocked the hell out. The Patriots go in to the Superbowl with an eighteen and zero record, and then they get beat by a guy who's the third best quarterback in his own damn family. Time and time and time again we see the mistakes of the past repeated. So it's finally nice to see someone that isn't being that stupid."
Matt turns the punching bag around so the camera can see that he has the face of Alex Jones tacked up on it.
"Of course just because old Alex here isn't being stupid in that regard, doesn't mean he's not stupid. He's stupid because he thought he could waltz in to my company, in to the house that I built, get himself a win, and then go right in to title contention. There's a lot of other guys who thought they could do that, and it didn't work for any of them. Jenson Idol thought he could do that, he ended up with a broken ankle courtesy of yours truly. Grey Malone and Gavin Grimes both thought that, and like you said Alex, they talked a lot of crap, challenged me, and then as soon as I accepted, they backed off and left. Adrien Cochrane, he thought he could do the same thing, then when I said let's go, he wormed his way in to a tag team title contenders match, and through sheer luck, him and his little blonde partner stole what should have been Kayla's and Coda's. No doubt he's gonna say he's focused on that, as he avoids the showdown he seemed so eager to have."
Matt shakes his head, then drives a hard right hand in to the punching bag. He smirks as the paper cut out crumples slightly under his hand.
"But you Alex, you don't get to run away or find some partner to escape to a different division. No, in your very first match, you get to attempt to back up everything you have said. I listened to what you said very intently, but more than that, I watched you as you said it. I looked in to your eyes, and I noticed that tell tale sign. The little glimmer that so many other people miss. I've seen it in so the eyes of so many others before you. It's fear Alex. It's concern, it's trepidation, it's that worry that you won't be able to back up your words. It's not there because you lack talent or skills. No, I would never claim that at all. You've been a champion, you've made a name for yourself, and you would have never been signed to the roster if you didn't have ability. Thing is, it takes something more to beat me, and you know it Alex."
Matt drives a few elbows in to the punching bag as the paper starts to rip and tear.
"Everything you said has merit, and I am sure that you believe it. I'm sure the people watching believe it as well. You did what you're supposed to do to be the 'good guy' in this match. You gave me a little praise, but you also put the blame on me for making myself a target. You talked down two complete douche bags, talked up Yujiro and Cochrane who everyone just loves, and then said you were gonna work hard and beat me. Here's the problem, just because you believe something, doesn't mean it's going to happen. Look at all the disappointed people after the last election. Go try and find someone who actually put money on Douglas beating Tyson. Both instances, the end result was a lock, it was a guarantee, it was believed by everyone. Except for the people who were being bet against."
Matt delivers a few hard punches, and the picture now just falls to the ground.
"In my entire time with this company, one man and one man alone has been able to defeat me in one on one competition, and the last time he had the help of a conniving, dirty, sneaky little bastard who has shown that he is completely envious of myself and my success. Sure, he plays it up as trying to do the right thing, but I see through the bullshit. That's my super power Alex. I can see through all the crap, all the talk, all the bravado, and I can see that deep down, you, like so many before you, are just hoping that you can catch lightning in a bottle. You're just hoping that you an capture whatever magic Yujiro had. Well bad news for you Alex. it's not going to happen. Unless you've got a horseshoe, a rabbits foot, a four leaf clover, a dreamcatcher, and a god damned albatross shoved up your ass, it's not gonna be your lucky night."
Matt steps forward, stepping on the effigy of Alex Jones as he does.
"I'm going to go straight through you, then I'll go through Coachrane, and then I am getting MY title back. Yujiro is nothing more than a placeholder for me, and I am not about to let you or anyone else stand between me and my property. You may go out there and put up a good fight, but you will fail, and just as I have done so many times before inside the Redemption ring, I will stand with my hand raised high. Now when I say this Alex, don't think that i am underestimating you one damn bit. As I said, that is the biggest mistake one can make in sports. No, I say this, and I will do this, because I am the best wrestler on the fucking planet. That is a pure and simple fact, Alex Jones."
Matt stares straight ahead at the camera, then looks down for a second. He looks buck up with a smirk and grinds his heel down on the floor as the paper effigy of Alex Jones is ripped apart.
