“Well here we are. You know I wanted to join Redemption back when I heard rumblings about a new company that was going to be started. Unfortunately due to contract issues I was unable to come into the company sooner. So instead I sat back and watched. I studied. I knew I wanted to be here, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. And one huge reason for that as the months grew...was Matthew Shields…”
Alex smiles slowly with a chuckle under his breathe.
“Now, I’m not going to rip Shields apart or start some crap here that I can’t back up. See for the last few months Shields and I have occasionally jabbed back and forth. We have yapped and poked and laughed at one another and while I have talked a lot about Matt hiding the truth is that this guy took the whole company on his back and carried it into being one of the top places in this business today.”
“I mean Redemption was always going to be special. It had it’s lineage with three of the best companies around And now I finally get to step in the ring. And you know I’d like to offer a word of warning here. See Matt I understand that you have been the top dog in this company, and I also understand that you have been able to “chase off” certain people…”
“And trust me I’m not about to defend people like Gray Malone who seemed to want to fight you, then disappeared to become obsessed with a random 18 year old daughter that appeared out of thin air just as fast as his wife and unborn child kind of went missing….”
“Kind of feel like that should be investigated….”
“But there’s another name on that list of people. See I know Gavin Grimes was a huge name in NGW. He was a guy who held their title and walked around like he was the best thing since sliced bread and he talks a big game along with his wife. But when push came to shove they both packed their shit and walked away. And you take great pride in this Matt and so you should. These are two men, grown as men who walked up to you, slapped you in the face and said “Fight me” and when you replied with “Sure” they ran away….”
Alex applauds slowly with his eyebrows raised and a smile on his face.
“But you know who didn’t run in the opposite direction Matt?. You know who took one step forward towards you whenever you said you wanted a fight?....”
Alex slowly turns his thumbs inward pointing to himself.
“Me?. I fought tooth and nail to get into Redemption because I wanted to face some of the best in the world and while Malone and Grimes tucked tail and ran I look around to see yourself. Yujiro, Adrien Cochrane all here. Along with my old friend’s Blair Kivisto and Trixie. And of course Kayla. Now I don’t want to seem like an asshole here and bring up my past with your girl so I won’t. I will however say that you should listen to her if she has anything to say about me behind closed doors. I know out in public she’ll talk you up, say you’re so much better than me and you might believe it but I’d like to believe you’re not that stupid….”
“I’d like to think that deep down you’d know the past I have and the things I’ve done. I battled Avery Miles for the VWS world title, I beat some of the top talents in this business for the Honor Championship back when it actually meant something. I have walked into every single company I could and straight away put my finger in the chest of the “best” there. And I don’t do it out of arrogance, I’ve done it because I live by the mantra of go big or go home.”
“I did it in FSW facing Gregory and Cochrane, I did it in WWH going after Kat Jones and now here I am in Redemption going after you. Sure I talk a lot of shit but I do respect you. I hated that whole king thing but even I can’t discredit the title reign you had and the defenses you put forth. You took a title that was unfounded and unheralded and made it one of the top prizes in the game and no one can take that away from you.”
“The only downside is that you made yourself a target. You talked about being one of the best in the world and the heavyweight champion and in proving yourself to be one of those top guys you made yourself pursuable. And I’m not talking about the no names I am talking about people like myself. I’m talking about people who actually matter and again I really hope you don’t underestimate me Shields cause I’m not one of these loud mouths who will either run or get their asses kicked. I’ll be bringing a fight. I will get in that ring and get face to face with you and bring hell with me and I already know you’ll be able to take it. I already know that this match won’t be “easy”...”
“But I didn’t come here for easy. If I wanted that I would have gone after Kayla again…..”
“I came here because I wanted competition. I wanted to prove I still have it and I’m still a top guy in this industry and Redemption is the best place to do it.”
Alex shrugs and folds his arms over his chest lightly chewing his gum as he offers a small smile.
“And that’s why Devlin brought me in, cause he knows deep down that you need the competition. That Yujiro needs the competition, that Cochrane needs the competition. But I’m not here just to collect a paycheck and be a name on the roster. I’m here to get that Redemption Heavyweight title, I’m here to help this company grow and to lead it further than even you have. And the best way I can do it is by getting in the ring and beating you….”
“And that’s what I plan on doing at Glory…..”
