As your cursor scans the YouTube website like a lost lamb avoiding the slaughter, you search for a few of the latest videos that would surely catch your interest. Scanning down the usual suspects like a badge is firmly on your chest, you discover the newest Redemption Wrestling promotional video has finally been uploaded. After a deep breath, you click the thumbnail and watch as Coda sits calmly outside a restaurant. The warm July air touches her skin, and the sun beats down on her through the Michigan clouds, but once she begins to speak, her mouth shuts immediately again.
Looking to her right, she spots a rather burly man walking out of the restaurant in search of his car in the parking lot. Shyly looking down into her menu, she gently looked up through her jungle of hair towards presumably her sister Mara holding the camcorder. As if looking at you for guidance, she resorted to silence as she eyed the man entering his blue miniature SUV to return from wench he came.
Respectfully wrapped over the back of the chair like a coat, the Young Lions Championship gleams against the sunlight as the gold shines in the direction of the window behind her. Inside, several foodies eat with their families, and some even catch a glimpse of the championship out the window as Coda proudly faces in the opposite direction. A little child looks at the leather strap decorated with gold with wonder, eyes comedically wide as she reaches out towards the window from her high chair. Her parents ignore this, and you can hear the soft rumblings of the parents telling her to keep eating her food.
With a deep breath of her own, Coda began to speak as softly as she usually did.
"Others proudly walk to the ring every single night an audience in present to speak the same rhetoric over and over. Empty words swell within each arena across the globe and I am left to wonder why. Why waste words on these people when you can make your actions speak for themselves? Why constantly tell them remotely the same thing when these people know your motivations or worse, do not care?"
While her words were quiet and precise in their delivery, she still managed to make the things she had to say sound immensely powerful in the way she spoke. Her punctuation was flawless, almost obsessively focused on making sure each word could be easily understood.
"I let my actions speak for itself, and I highly doubt you can say the same in 140 characters or less. I announced I would become the Young Lions Champion and I made the former champion — 'Living Greatness' Jeremy Starling — tap out in front of you all shortly thereafter. He was a strong competitor; this is without a doubt the truth. I slept well."
With the faintest smile, Coda looked like she remembered the match itself.
"I have a newfound respect for Starling since he has humbly conceded defeat on social media. All the posturing about the fact that he would be the Young Lions Champion for a long time and all the rhetoric Jeremy threw around like a child starved for attention all disappeared once he tapped out to my blood choke. He knew he had little choice and so it was done. I am sure Icarus will return shortly, eyeing the sun as he stands grounded back to Earth but it is good to see in even one instance of time... Jeremy Starling admitted he was not good enough to defeat me."
Wistfully tilting her head, Coda looked down at the menu.
"I am looking forward to the eventual rematch. He has grown significantly stronger than ever now that he let us see the flaws. This is admirable, yes?"
Looking back up with confidence imbued in her dark eyes, she looked into your own.
"Needless to say... This new age within Redemption Wrestling has begun."
Crossing her arms, she nodded with that stoic look on her face.
"The championship in my possession is now an object that acts as a target. Others openly refuse to defend championships such as this in an attempt to further length their championship reign, but I do not understand this. What good is a championship reign without competition? What good is holding a piece of Redemption Wrestling history without openly accepting every worthy challenger who could make you stronger in the end?"
The question was simple and to the point. Despite the black and white tonality that the questions posed, you could hear the intelligence in Coda's voice while she said the words.
"I encourage people to see me — The Young Lions Champion — as a target. I encourage people to see my dominance as motivation. I want competition. I want to fight my opponents at their peak. I want to grow stronger whether I win or I lose. Do you understand? Or is this concept too complicated for you?"
Looking back at the menu, she turns the page and keeps scanning the page with her finger as she speaks.
"This philosophy includes the upcoming tag team scramble match."
Spotting the food she wants, Coda politely pokes the item three times for the camera operator to see.
"While Alicia Hixx & John Blade remain the laughingstock of Redemption Wrestling, does anyone believe those two are worthy opponents? Does anyone believe those two could ever make Kayla and I stronger by any stretch of the imagination? No. Those two cannot even make RC Tucker & The Jew Blazer stronger. Fodder. Should Kayla and I find ourselves in the same ring as those two worthless individuals who have found themselves in the wrong profession, we will send them into intensive care and end their careers in the process without breaking a sweat."
Callously, Coda insults John Blade and Alicia Hixx without a shred of remorse.
"No. We cannot end their careers. Surely no matter how badly we hurt them, no matter how much the doctor pleads they cannot compete any longer, the two will dumbly continue wrestling and risk paralyzing themselves for all to see. It is in their nature. Evolution skipped them completely, it seems."
Looking up from the menu, she glares at you.
"Cockroaches. This is their identity."
"No matter how many others destroy them mercilessly and look to end their pathetic careers, they will always return. Slumming around doing absolutely nothing of interest, John Blade & Alicia Hixx will always continue to be even more deluded than Mason Moore and Jeremy Starling combined going into our respective matches. It is not their fault that those two consistently lose, no. It is an unseen 'they,' always plotting against them like the 'demons' and the 'lizard people' which Maverick is constantly mentioning. This is the excuse John Blade continues to claim, and every single time it is said, I want to slaughter his career in an instant that much more."
"Do not worry, however. It is what 'they' would want to happen."
"In addition to them, The Jew Blazer and RC Tucker stand as two men I considered underestimating. I considered treating them like as much of a joke as John Blade and Alicia Hixx but to be frank... Those two have talent. With tag team championships under their belt separately, it could be argued by some that Blazer and RC are the favorites to win the entire scramble."
"Let it be known, however... Jew Blazer's and RC Tucker's original partners abandoned them in favor of slipping away after their mediocrity got them injured. Now grafted together with paperclips and glue, RC Tucker and Jew Blazer seek to collect the pieces of their separate legacies and gain a match against Rebel Inc. for the Tag Team Championships. It is a noble goal, believe me."
"Can you two co-exist in a match like this together or will lightning strike twice, sending the two of you to the bench so you can happily meet the partners you left behind? I do not know. Regardless, I hope you do not let these fans down. Most of them will choose to cheer for Honey and Adrien Cochrane, however, I am sure a few might support you two. Let us hope this along with the pressure surrounding this match can catapult the two of you to the zenith of your abilities. I would grow significantly stronger if I was able to defeat the two of you in combat, should this be the case."
"And to The Karloffs—"
Her speech was cut short as a waitress dressed in a smile arrived at the table and kindly asked Coda what she wanted to eat. Responding to the waitress' sweet voice, Coda's head slumped down as she avoided eye contact. Eyeing the menu and pointing to the pasta, Coda didn't speak a word. As she reverted to her anti-social setting, the YouTube video came to an abrupt end.
