CAROLINE
the new classic.
"IT'S TIME TO DISH OUT ALL THE DIRT!"
The scene opens up to a flashy logo appearing on the screen - a hot-pink circle with the words "Diva Dish" written in bold script. The logo is accompanied by some upbeat pop music, but the logo and the music eventually fade off as we are greeted by a smiling, bubbly blonde sitting down in a plush white chair. The perky-like drawl of her voice resonates as she speaks and greets the viewers watching.
"Welcome ladies and gentlemen, my name is Sarah Dawson and I am here with none other than the current New Gen Champion representing Redemption Wrestling: Caroline O'Hara Burchill."
On cue, the camera zooms out to where the infamous Burchill is seen sitting opposite of the host. Donned in a sky-blue, form-fitting dress and simple black stilettos, the Aussie has a smirk of her own as the New Gen Championship is proudly displayed on her shoulder.
"Thank you for having me. Been quite some time since I've done one of these, so this should be interesting."
"Well, we can only hope so," Sarah jokingly quips as she laughs and organizes the note cards that were right in front of her.
"Anyways, you've always been a... well, unique point of interest for a lot of people," Sarah began. "From the way you carry yourself to how you behave towards your fellow wrestlers, it seems like you always brush people the wrong way."
"Oh sweetheart, my entire career has been built on brushing people the wrong way."
Burchill scoffs and chuckles as she settles a bit into the chair.
"Haha. Okay, well, I just want to better understand your whole mentality and possibly get an explanation of why you believe that so many fans and wrestlers alike have such a strong disdain for you over the years."
"Well, Sarah, I think it's quite obvious. I say a lot of things that people don't agree with. I'm not one to hold back a single thought and I just simply tell it like it is. If I think a wrestler is beneath me because they've been inconsistent or they haven't been in their prime for a while, then I'll say it. It's just the simple truth."
Sarah looks on with an astute look on her face as Burchill continues on with her answer.
"People don't like to hear the truth though," Burchill says whilst rolling her eyes. "They want to will themselves on and remain oblivious to the reality that is right in front of them. That is why so many of them create these fantasies in their heads and fear that someone like me will prevent them from living their precious dreams."
"Okay... that's very blunt of you," Sarah admits with a bit of a laugh. "Still, in regards to your comment on people willing themselves on, I think it's just that so many wrestlers have confidence in themselves and their skills. It's kind of necessary in this kind of profession anyways. However, some say that you go beyond just being confident and take your own ego too far. What do you have to say about that?"
"Ohoho! That question always comes up. I can never seem to escape it."
Caroline laughs a bit, which garners a raised brow from Dawson.
"Alright then," Burchill says, finally ceasing the laughter for a moment. "I guess I can humor you for a bit. You see, I've proven time and time again that I am one of the very best wrestlers in the entire world today. I've busted my ass to be in the position that I am after so many failures and having to deal with so many issues."
Burchill glances over at the New Gen Championship for a moment, looking at the belt that culminates all of the past struggles that the Aussie had to face. She then looks back at Sarah and speaks more brazenly, constantly pointing to herself and the title.
"I know my worth. I've excelled on the biggest stages and as of late, I have been building my name up. Besides Redemption, I've been honing my craft in other places. I've been traveling all over the world in tournaments and for other promotions just to show everyone that I can beat whoever it is that is right in front of me because I've done that before many times."
"So, if I come off as being arrogant, then it's alright! Because I have every damn right to be," Burchill snarls, leaning back in the chair and crossing her leg over the other. "After all, this title and my body of work have been all the validation that I need. If people want to hate me for it, then that's too bad. However, I simply don't care."
Sarah's eyes widen a bit, but Burchill simply gives her a nonchalant shrug, simply having no care in the world.
"Tch. I shouldn't have to lower my standards just to pander to these idiots. Professional wrestling isn't the kind of profession for people to hold hands and be nice. Only fools would concern themselves with being well-liked. Popularity is irrelevant."
"Okay then," Sarah exhales, looking to switch the topic of the discussion. "Let's get onto something more relevant then and discuss Redemption Wrestling."
"Sure. Go ahead."
"This Sunday, you will be pitted in a triple-threat match against Johnny Maverick and Trixie, two individuals that have known what it's like to be champions."
"Mhm."
"And, um, obviously, those two would love nothing more than to rise the ranks and capture gold again. Surely, a win over you could mean a prospective title match for your belt. So, is it safe to say that you're taking this match seriously, even in spite of the issues that Maverick and Trixie may be having with their careers?"
"You know, I always take my matches very seriously," Burchill declares without any hesitation. "I can talk a lot of crap about people effortlessly, but just because I say the things that I say doesn't mean that I completely disregard my opponents and the matches we have."
"At the end of the day, I have a status to preserve. I've been telling everyone since I won this belt that I will do whatever it takes to elevate this belt and make it matter. After all, I am currently the longest-reigning active champion in Redemption Wrestling. I am the leader of the pack, the one that is above the rest of the competition.. and I would like for things to stay that way. So, I do take every match that I have seriously. I'm not some idiot that will play down the importance of winning."
A bit of arrogance lingers in her voice as Caroline smirks towards Sarah.
"Now, moving on to Maverick and Trixie... I mean, what is there to say? Both have been part of Redemption Wrestling for quite a while now and have achieved success. I can't necessarily deny that they've contributed to the promotion in one way or another..."
"But other than that, I'm afraid that any praises I may have for them will have to cease. Those two are hardly consistent in the ring and I can't help but wonder if they'll step up and present themselves as worthy challengers. My opponents as of late have actually tried to give me a run for my money. Sterling and Kennedy were worth my time. Now, it's time that Trixie and Maverick show me that they haven't completely lost their touch."
"I mean, I would love to absolutely humiliate them inside that ring and continue on making a name for myself, but the very least that they could do is not completely be useless, you know?"
Caroline lets out a haughty laugh.
"Undoubtedly, you're right. The competition that you've been going up against have been improving. However, there are fans and critics alike that you don 't live up to the whole Killer Queen moniker that you've proclaimed yourself to be."
Suddenly, the sly and arrogant manner of Caroline disappears as those words left Dawson's mouth. She becomes a little more serious, tapping her nails along the armrest of her chair as Sarah continued on with her explanation.
"You've used underhanded tactics in the past to beat your opponents. In your match against The Jew Blazer, you used brass knuckles to garner the win while the referee was distracted. In your recent bout with Josh Kennedy, you used the New Gen belt itself to get the win."
"Yeah, but-"
Before she could get the chance to explain herself, Sarah cuts Caroline off.
"To be honest here, Caroline, you've been cheating to get some of these wins lately, yet you still claim to everyone that you have the necessary skills and, more specifically, actual wrestling ability to defeat the competition. Seems contradictory, don't you think?"
"Um..."
Caroline finds herself to be in the hot seat as that question comes up. For a moment, Caroline didn't say anything as she simply bit her bottom lip and fidgeted with her fingers.
"Okay," Burchill finally admits. "Maybe I do do things that give me an edge of some of these wrestlers, but hey. I'm not the only one that does it!"
Caroline then chuckles and dismissively shakes her hand, as if playing everything off. Sarah, however, doesn't seem all that satisfied.
"Well, some people feel as though it's hard to see you as a legitimate competitor when you're doing all of these antics to get the win. I don't mean to insult you or anything like that, but those kinds of tactics can undermine any and all impressive skills that you may have."
"What exactly are you trying to say, Sarah," Caroline asks, now frowning.
"I'm just saying that people think you can't get the job done without any unfair advantages," Sarah explains with a slight shrug of her own. "People just view your actions as cowardly."
"Cowardly!?"
The sudden exclamation from Caroline frightens Sarah a bit as she sees that the Aussie was cracking up with laughter.
"Cowardly... alright. That's a new one."
Caroline nods her head a bit, but eventually, the joking attitude of the young lady dissipates as she sat there to think for a moment.
"I can assure you and the rest of these lowly pundits that I am no coward. I'm not here to take the easy way out and I never needed to take the easy way out to win this championship."
"I mean... do people just like to undermine everything that I do? I'm having one of the best careers out of any wrestler this year. I've built myself up and I continue to get better and better each week that I step inside that ring. However, nothing that I do seems to please you fucks."
Burchill becomes more agitated, but she remains in her position as her nails began to dig into the armrest.
"It's always the same crap anyways," she spits out venomously as she shakes her head in disgust.
"Just to be clear here, Caroline, in no way am I trying to say that you aren't talented in your own right. It's just that..."
"It's just what?"
Burchill tilts her head ever so slightly to the side as she glares at Sarah, who was just trying her best not to further upset the already irate woman in front of her.
"You can do things to dispel of the negativity surrounding you by showing everyone that you don't need to do any of that cheap stuff to get a win."
"Okay then. I'll do just that," Burchill says threateningly. "I'll do exactly that this Sunday when I make Trixie and Maverick look like my pair of bitches. I've proven that I can get the job done all with skill and talent, but if you and everyone else are still in doubt, then I'll make sure that you all will come to terms with how dangerous I can be by myself."
Tension was clearly in the air as Caroline sits there with her arms folded, frowning from ear to ear. Sarah seems to be a bit uncomfortable, but since the interview has reached its conclusion, she decides that it was better to wrap everything up.
"Alright then. Well, good luck this week and thank you for joining me for this interview."
"No problem," Caroline says, though she wasn't enthusiastic. Despite the apparent frustration, the scene fades out as the logo for the show appears once more.
