“So, it’s been about eight days since I last spoke. I thought I would give my eight opponents a chance to say a few words before speaking again. What I wasn’t expecting was only one to really do so. Maybe after this one, a couple of them will jump in with one with two days remaining til showtime, but hey...they’re cutting it close, huh?”
The cameras open up to Adrien Cochrane standing in front of a large oak tree in a sunny Friday morning. The RW wrestler is in his standard promo attire: jeans, plaid, a pair of sunglasses covering his eyes, and even a bowler hat covering some of his blonde hair.
“Sure, John Blade put out a video but he barely spoke about to match and when he did, the interviewer mentioned the actual opponents, Blade never did. At this point, I’m not a hundred percent sure Blade knows what’s all going on around him. So yeah, I’m not really counting that one.
“But don’t worry. Kayla Richards has come to save the day! I mean, her intentions are the exact opposite of saving the day, but that’s beside the point. So let’s talk about Kayla and her video directed at me and Honey for a second, since she decided to mention mine.
“I think my favorite part was close to the end of her video when she said that she got into my head so easily. Let’s think about that for a moment. The first time Kayla Richards mentions me, she talks about how annoyed she is that allegedly, people are calling me the next big star of Redemption Wrestling. I don’t read a whole lot of reddit boards or whatever fans post who they think are the best wrestlers or even that I’m apparently someone everyone projects to win the Redemption Wrestling Heavyweight title so this is the first of this press I’m hearing, but it is nice for you to break the news for me.
“I’ve just been hearing the negative things about how Gavin Grimes is annoyed that my victory against Ally Morrow came a couple of months after he had an intense match with her. Then again, that’s just Gavin being Gavin, and he rants about things on his mind at random moments and moves on to something else pretty quickly. You got people on Twitter trying to make little parodies of my trademark all because of me having to say goodbye to my friendships with them but when you’ve been in this business as long as I have, you get used to letting all of that roll right off your back or even use as motivation to go out there and silence them with actions. But I’m SO GLAD you have delivered such good news to me that it’s not all dark thunderstorm clouds when people speak about me. Thank you, Kayla. Thank you.
“So you made a negative tweet and you think that because I acknowledged its existence, you’re in my head. Right. That’s how that works.”
The Dropkick King was clearly being a bit sarcastic.
“If you’re really paying attention to what fans think about me, doing searches for my name on forums and the like, who is really in who’s head, Kayla? Fact is this: you were already on my radar before I even debuted. You remember my debut, right? Yujiro Fujiwara defeated your self-proclaimed king, you two decided to react by throwing some kicks Yujiro’s direction like a coward until I stormed the ring and made both of you run like hell. Such sweet memories. I actually don’t blame either one of you for retreating because you both had really intense matches and I spent an entire month waiting to deliver some dropkicks. Retreating was the smart thing to do, but don’t act like there isn’t some part of you in the back of your head that was a little intimidated because if I was some sort of nobody that was an absolute zero on the intimidation scale, you would have kicked me like you did Yujiro and spoiled my big debut. But you didn’t.
“I do think about a lot of what if scenarios at times, just to see what life would be like if one little thing changed, not really in a bout of regret but just out of curiosity. I’ll share one with you. If I wasn’t targeting the whole Shields-Richards Monarchy, would you and Matthew have even cared I debuted? Let’s say I just came in and started being part of the New Gen division and work towards the big title down the line, like I did in Premium Championship Wrestling where I won the Platinum Title then after a while, I got into the World Title picture before winning that championship as well. Let’s say I did that instead of challenging the Matthew Shields crown. Let’s say I’m a thorn in the side of Caroline O’Hara Burchill for a few months, then maybe I go after Yujiro or whoever else is in the Heavyweight title picture, perhaps Gavin, Aurora, Maverick...whoever. If I had chosen that path in Redemption, I am willing to bet I wouldn’t even be a blip on the radar of you or Shields. So much less negativity on Twitter, granted Miss Burchill isn’t exactly the friendliest face on Twitter.
“But I didn’t. I knew the consequences of starting this fight. But I wasn’t scared or intimidated. Hell, I VOLUNTEERED to be in THIS match where there is literally no benefit for me, knowing it would pit me against you and Coda. I had a lot more to be afraid of than you. So when you want to talk about how brave you are, why don’t you think about how you literally are the establishment that I’m fighting against. The establishment doesn’t have to be afraid of the rebellion. The rebellion is the one taking the risks. I’ve got a lot more to lose and I’ve shown a more unwillingness to back down than you. Say what you want, but facts are facts.
“You mentioned your sister. I actually liked Amber. I never shared the ring with her, but she seemed pretty talented in the matches I saw of her while I was backstage. You mentioned my victory against Tyson Gregory, dismissing it as something that you apparently think is an easy thing to do. You know...despite the fact that I was the only one in #FSociety who actually did it. And it’s funny you mention Tyson because the first thing Tyson Gregory mentioned after that big match we had, he said he underestimated me. He regretted taking me lightly.
“So this is my warning to you, to Shields, and to anyone else on this roster. Tyson learned from that mistake. It would be wise of you to do the same. Because I am someone that will not quit in between those ropes. I am someone fights until my last breath once the bell sounds and I only stop when the ending bell sounds. No one has been able to beat me for an entire calendar year. Not even a single loss since the New Year started. You think you’re going to be the one to end that? You think it is your destiny to be the one to end that little streak of mine, your fate to be the first to beat me this year, something Hutch Lanahan, Kenzie Rydell, Ally Gregory, Seth Lawless, Aurora Graves all failed to do?
“No. It isn’t. It isn’t your destiny. It is your destiny to be the message I send to Matthew Shields. When you crumble on the ground from my finishing move and that match ends with you on your back, wondering what the hell just happened, Matthew Shields will know that Adrien Cochrane is someone he should start taking seriously. Perhaps, if you don’t take me seriously, you’ll make my job that much easier for me. So unless you have a bit of an awakening in the next fifty-eight hours, you’re going to be doing just that.
“So for that, thank you, Kayla. See you in the ring.”
