“My, oh my! My, oh my!”
It was late in the evening. The sun had set already on this Friday evening. The lights surrounding Adrien Cochrane’s backyard still keep the area illuminated enough that Adrien himself is clearly visible, sitting on a chair, facing the camera and the direction of his home off-camera. Behind him off to the right side of the screen is the secondary building of his property that houses his music room and training facility. Also visible in the background is his swimming pool, freshly cut grass for yards until you see nothing but trees.
“I actually kinda like it when things happen exactly as I expect them. Aurora Graves is a class act, Matthew Shields’s ego apparently prevents him from quite understanding what’s going on...it’s like I wrote this story myself.”
The Dropkick King gives a faint smile as he leans a bit more forward in his seat. With the time of day, the three-time World Heavyweight Champion isn’t wearing sunglasses, but he is wearing the brand new light blue #Believe t-shirt that was now being carried by the Redemption Wrestling Merchandise Store. His light blue jeans match the shirt almost perfectly.
“Let’s get Shieldsy out of the way first. Believe he mentioned something about how if he sees the same referee when he steps into the ring...well, it was an elaborate threat that included members of the poor man’s family. Then he spoke about me. Asked if I was expecting him to gush about every single one of his opponents like a schoolgirl. Not his exact words, I’ll admit that I’m paraphrasing. He then did EXACTLY WHAT I SAID HE WAS GOING TO DO!! I love it when that happens. It usually happens when people are so predictable that their next move is something that can be seen from so far away. And they usually aren’t just that way with the way they talk, it’s usually something you see from these individuals in the ring. It’s why they usually fall to me after talking a big game.
“Right, context! You guys probably want that! Roll back that clip of that sentence I said right after WrestleForce.”
A clip from the video that aired on June 5th.
“At least, the way you galavant on Twitter about how former World Champions mean nothing to you because all of them lost their titles leads me to believe you’re going to have the same attitude about mine.”
The cameras cut back to the live feed after the clip is done playing.
“And how does Matty Shields reply? No paraphrasing this time, this is exact words. ‘Some big wins, some great matches, some nice title reigns. Mark Storm had those as well. Jenson Idol, same thing. Grey Malone, you guessed it, same thing. You know what happened to all three of them? They ended up gone, while I remained. Challengers came and went.’”
Adrien scratches his chin, mostly to convey is point more than actually trying to gather thoughts. He knew what he was going to say already.
“Matt, something you need to learn is one thing: I’m not Mark Storm. I’m not Jenson Idol. I’m DEFINITELY not Gray Malone. If you don’t want me to treat you like you’re Draven Logan Kennedy, Yoshiro Long, or Sickboy who gave me all the speeches you’re giving me about how my past stuff means absolutely nothing in their ring until I pinned every single one of them, you might not want to compare me to any of these other guys because every single individual is not the same. They may say the same things. They may have similar attitudes. But just because Wrestler X won a title in Company X doesn’t mean you can do the exact same thing in Wrestler Y who won a title in Company Y.
“Instead, of comparing each other to other wrestlers, because that’s boring, silly, and moronic, why don’t we look at one another. Let’s treat Adrien Cochrane like Adrien Cochrane and Matthew Shields like Matthew Shields for a moment. I know, seems foreign to you, who sees every single one of us as blurs of the same people, but try to follow my point as best you can, Shieldsy.
“Let’s look at our last twenty matches. Twenty matches is a pretty good sample size, right? It’s the exact number of matches you’ve had in Redemption Wrestling actually. Perfect number for this exercise! So of your last twenty matches, how many have you lost? Seven. Of my last twenty matches, how many have I lost? Three. Still complaining about that submission loss they are giving you since you didn’t actually tap? Okay, we can call yours six, but I had a match end the exact same way so if we do that for you, we’re going to do that for me as well. That brings me down to two. In the grand scheme of things, you might wanna come back down from that little cloud you think you’re on, Zeus because you are no god in the ring.
“By the way, you don’t have to worry about MacIntosh being the referee in your big rematch. I understand it’s quite hard to get messages all the way up Mount Pious but your second chance at your little championship will be officiated by me. Want to make that same threat towards me as you did MacIntosh? It would be difficult since I have no kids, but also any attempt to attack me will not end well for you because I will fight back and disqualify you. Remember that Fujiwara is your opponent and not me. Keep following that script and I’ll call a fair match. Got a problem with that? Well, there isn’t really anything you can do about it.
“So think I’m still some worthless cretin that’s just trying to make a name for myself by going after you? Believe me, if I just wanted to choose some random FORMER champion, there are a lot more options on this roster for me to go after. No, I chose you because I believe you are someone who deserves to be dropkicked off your high horse. Excellent choice of words for me to borrow, by the way, Aurora.”
Adrien’s smile goes from ironic to a bit more genuine as he shifts the subject from Matthew Shields to Aurora Graves.
“Aurora, good to hear from you. It’s funny, you released your video literally seconds before we started rolling cameras here, I had to stop the video, watch yours, then start ours again. Ever feel really awkward when you show up to the same party wearing the same clothes as someone else? I kinda feel that way when we were already shooting in front of my pool and then you released yours with you swimming in yours. I’m actually kinda embarrassed from this, but we’ll work through it.
“Let’s talk about your earlier video first. The first thing you did was welcome me. Thank you. You assumed I would go where Stacy was. Thought about it then it closed before #FSociety actually did. Brought up the fact that it is a huge coincidence that you were my opponent in my first show...yeah, I covered that bit in a previous video. Personally, I think it was fate, or Devlin Scott probably saw the match the way I saw it which would make my debut match interesting, which would bring more attention to his product. I know he’s not the most popular guy around here but you’d have to think he saw that as a smart business move.
“Next thing you said was to not mention your former last name anymore. I respect you enough to do that. I actually was not aware that your old last name was touchy so I will not use it from this moment forward. You then said that you can’t afford to lose this match. That’s to be expected.
“Let’s go ahead and flip the cassette to side two. Am I aging myself with that reference? Probably. You asked me if I’m going to stick with my original plan to pursue Shields or go after gold. This is actually a question I really want to address here for a minute.
“I’ve proven multiple times that sometimes there are tasks more important than championships in my career. I’ve waited to pursue titles until after I settled other affairs multiple times, most notably during the Seikigun versus LEGION all out war in the EXODUS Pro. Once I got all of that taken care of and dealt with, I went on to get my championship there. This is the similar story. Don’t get me wrong, if Devlin Scott puts me in a title match, I’m going to try to win it. But my first priority right now is making sure there is never again a crown atop the noggin of Matthew Shields unless said crown is one of the paper ones they give you at Burger King. This is more important than any title for me, at the present moment anyway.
“In all honesty, usually when I do these things, title shots usually follow. My goal in the grand scheme of things is taking down Shields, but every show, I’m going to be placed in the ring with an opponent or opponents. I’m going to make sure I keep my little undefeated so far in 2017 streak going as long as possible and try to win every single match I’m in.
“You said you didn’t want to make sure that you weren’t going to let the fans down. You don’t want our friendship to be an obstacle that you have to overcome to do what is necessary to win. I agree. Kick me as hard as you can, Aurora. Give me EVERYTHING…”
Repeated for emphasis.
“...EVERYTHING you’ve got. You don’t want a win by you to be cheapened by me not giving it my all and I feel the same in the vice versa. I want literally the absolute best Aurora Graves you can throw at me because otherwise, it won’t feel like I really won anything. And that’s not what I want. You are the mark on my record. This opportunity to remedy that is something I cannot afford to pass up. And for it to matter, I need you to be the best damn wrestler you’ve ever been.”
Adrien rises from his seat for the first time the entire shoot. He stands beside the chair and looks straight into the camera.
“And I believe you can.”
As soon as Adrien finishes his sentence, a blonde blur dashes on screen and shoves Adrien backward into his swimming pool. The laughing voice of Stacy Sterling quickly replies after she dashes off camera.
“AND I BELIEVE YOU CAN SWIM!”
The camera gets a bit closer to Cochrane, now drenched as he floats on the edge of the pool.
“Count your blessings that Damon didn’t do this to you in your video.”
Adrien climbs out of the swimming pool, whipping his blonde hair back to get a little bit of the water out of it. He looks down at his soaked clothing then back at the camera.
“I also believe this will conclude our little video. If you excuse me, I have a blonde haired superhero that needs to be thrown in this pool now.”
Adrien nods his head as he walks off camera, presumably to pursue his girlfriend for a little bit of revenge. One last sentence is audible from the Dropkick King before the camera fades to black.
“You can run but you can’t hide, Stace!”
There is no blame only shame
When you beg you just complain
The more I come, more I try
All police are paranoid
So am I, so's the future
So are you, be a creature
What do you say do you do when it all comes down
When you beg you just complain
The more I come, more I try
All police are paranoid
So am I, so's the future
So are you, be a creature
What do you say do you do when it all comes down

'Cause I don't wanna come back
Down from this cloud
It's taken me all this time to find out what I need, yeah
I don't wanna come back
Down from this cloud
It's taken me all this, all this time
Down from this cloud
It's taken me all this time to find out what I need, yeah
I don't wanna come back
Down from this cloud
It's taken me all this, all this time
