Modesty was one of his best qualities. Lavishness was one of hers.
At WrestleForce, Yujiro Fujiwara did what many thought was impossible—he defeated Matthew Shields twice in one night. He became the first person to shatter the man’s impressive reign. He became the second person to hold the Redemption Wrestling Heavyweight Championship.
Yujiro felt a great sense of pride every time he glanced at the belt. Truth be told, he went through a great deal of bullshit to obtain the belt. The belt reminded him of every mistreatment—but it also reminded him of his triumph over those events.
Upon arriving home, Yujiro planned on resting for a day or two, and then getting back into the gym. He wasn’t a rookie; he knew the dangers of hovering to close to Cloud 9. Winning the belt was always the easiest part of the journey—defending it was the taxing part. He needed to ready. He needed to be prepared.
However, Yujiro’s plans were thwarted when he got home. Cammy, his wife, had other plans.
Two the days later, a massive black tie party was thrown on Yujiro’s honor. The turnout was amazing, probably even greater than Cammy had expected. Friends and family from all over the country made the trip. In truth, Yujiro knew that he probably should have been training or studying tape, but, he put it out of his mind, at least for that night. The party was important to his wife. And, a day of rest and fun was well deserved anyway.
“Aye! Everyone listen up, I’d like to say a word or two.” Cammy’s voice was loud and booming to counteract the music. The DJ lowered the volume a bit as Cammy stood to her feet.
“I’ve never wrestled a day in my life. However, having been married to one, I can tell you all that the struggle is real.” She nodded her head. “Professional sports as a whole are pretty taxing; they all come with their own set of barrage. But, wrestling is another beast entirely.
“It’s a dog eat dog world out there. It’s a world in which cheating, deception, and trickery are often applauded instead of chastised. It’s a world in which people use and abuse each other to get ahead.” She paused her speech for a moment. “During the course of Yujiro’s run in Redemption, he endured many, many hardships. I watched as he came up short on a few occasions. I watched as he was fucked with. I watched as he was cheated out of championships and opportunities—
“I also watched as he stood steadfast. As any many would, he wavered a bit. Sometimes he questioned himself and his choices. And that’s perfectly fine; a warrior’s greatest asset his or her mind—his or her ability to think and reflect. And after his moments of reflection, Yujiro always decided to stand tall and fight!”
The party goers began clapping. Cammy turned towards her husband.
“Through the midst of everything, Yujiro, you never lost yourself. You never fully forgot who you were...who you are. And to be clear, you aren’t merely a man of valor. You aren’t merely an amazing husband—you are one of the best wrestlers to ever step foot inside a ring. You were highly distinguished before you ever set foot inside of Redemption—and now, you are even more distinguished!”
Cammy put her arm around her husband’s shoulder.
“I know the hardest has yet to come. Matthews is going to try and clap back at you. Richards is going to shot her shot. And every person on the roster is going to be watching, waiting for that one moment of weakness.
“Well, I say fuck all of em’. This your moment. This is your time. And that is your championship.” She gave him a small kiss on the cheek. “You go out there and show all those fuckers just who the hell you are!”
All of the people in attendance went wild. It slightly reminded Yujiro of the night he won the belt. All the cheers, all the applause…
However, as is lovely wife had said people, the hardest was yet to come. His first test as champion would be the the former man to hold the belt. But, Yujiro was ready for it. Indeed he was.
“Did you fall, on your way? It’s a long way down.”
Have you ever heard that lyric before, Mr. Shields? The song is called “Finally.” It’s a beautiful tune by an Irish band called The Frames.
Ha, perhaps it’s utterly foolish of me to even ask that question. You seem like more of the hard rock and metal type.
But, I digress. The chorus seems to address a person who had gotten to high and mighty, and then experienced a sort of fall from grace…
How fitting, yeah?
Therefore, I figured it would be the perfect lead into this little audio log…
Now, allow me a moment to handle some housekeeping, and then we shall get down to business. For those who might be unfamiliar with the sound of my voice, my name is Yujiro Fujiwara. I am a man of many traits, a man of many roles. At times, I am a trainer. At home, I am a husband...
However, in the context of Redemption Wrestling, you may refer to me as your Heavyweight Champion. That goes doubly for you, Mr. Shields.
I know the following statement might sound like I’m rubbing salt in the wound. And while it might sting all the same, I truly curious as to something. Would you humor me with an answer, or lack thereof?
Mr. Shields—how does it feel?
Not to be screwed with; we all know that feeling. Not to be fucked with or cheated; you had always been in the position of power, should those feelings would have been foreign to you.
No—how does it feel to know that you couldn’t break me at your very worst? How does it feel to know that everything I related to you was one hundred and thirty percent correct? How does it feel to know that you couldn’t defeat me at your very best?
I imagine it’s a very humbling experience, no?
But sometimes, humbling is a good thing. It keeps you honest. It reminds you of your position in life. And if used correctly, it can be used to help you get to where you want to be.
However, I know all this wisdom shall be lost upon you. You are open to receive it. I’m willing to bet that the only thing on your mind is vengeance (we’ll disregard the fact that you were never wronged). The only thing on your mind is picking of the remnants of your past glory and trying to glue the pieces back together…
But that shall happen over my dead body.
Here’s the brutally honest truth—your name is shrouded in disgrace and shame. You’ve brought shame upon this company. You’ve brought shame upon this championship belt. And you’ve brought shame upon yourself.
Therefore, at Glory, I’ll shattered the remnants of past into a million miniscule pieces. You hopes of reclaiming this championship, of going on to defend it against Ms. Richards...ha, you can kill those right now.
You’ve earned the right to have this rematch; there’s no doubt about it. However, you’ve never earned the right to send this company spiraling into ruin…
If you’d personally like to reside in Hell after you ass has been kicked this week, then that’s your own prerogative.
