"This... isn't quite how I remembered things."
Redemption Wrestling was the topic at hand now.
Redemption. If there was one word that could sum up the thought process of Mark Storm, it was redemption. He needed to redeem himself. He needed this because for a long time, the world was against him but he knew that was at his own fault. He left, no explanation whatsoever, just evaporating from the world - into thin air, like a ghost. The fans were happy to see him back. But colleagues, though's among the locker room would bitch and gossip, talking among themselves about the hypocrisy of this so called "hero", who'd abandoned the industry, coming back with this new persona.
He wasn't a hero, but a phony. They'd place bets on how long he was going to last before abandoning once again. This, was something that Mark could hear but remained quiet, allowed people to preach their views because at the end of the day, that's all they were.
"But some things, haven't changed at all."
Speaking from a microphone, Mark is situated in the middle of the four sided ring with his audience being up and coming wrestlers, all gathered for a seminar focusing on the man known as "Your Hero, and Mine".
Looking around the room he paused, and saw the faces on these young competitors who all looked up at him with hope and adulation. He reminisced about the times he was looking up to others but now, he'd become that figured. He smiled, thinking about how far he'd come since the days where he was just a murmur, a footnote but now, he was something.
But that all came with hard work. It all came with grueling training, it all came with the idea of bettering himself to become one of the best wrestlers in the world. Had he reached the height? Some would say he had, but the argument was always debatable. In his mind, he had a long way to go before he could reach the best of the best status. But he was etching is way, creating a path through numerous avenues. That was his best bet for now, traveling the world and creating a brand for himself.
"I came to Redemption Wrestling with the idea of becoming the best on the roster. Now, a lot of people may say that when I originally came to the promotion, I was on the verge of breaking through - with the idea of myself working with the current champion Matthew Shields being proposed.
But as you know, that never materialized and I had to flee. Matthew has done a great job as an ambassador of this promotion. Look at what he's done. He's carried this promotion up into the upper echelon of professional wrestling and we can only applaud him for that. But an end, it's inevitable and he will be dethroned. Whether it's Yujiro, we'll see on Sunday night, but the end of his days are coming.
I'm not going to mark myself as a contender. Despite my best intentions are to eventually go for the title, I know that I have to work from the ground up and preaching that I deserve this and that, it isn't going to take me anywhere. Proving my worth, proving that I belong here in Redemption, that's what I need to do."
This wasn't just about proving the doubters wrong.Or even proving to himself. This was also about proving to the people who always had faith in him, that they were right. Devlin Scott, who took him back with open arms, knowing full well that Mark Storm had the potential of lifting Redemption Wrestling to another level. Jack Tillman & Chris Constantine. Fellow band mates who'd become friends to Mark Storm, always believing him.
"Do I think that I'm the best wrestler?" he posed rhetorically, "I think I'm on my way. I'm not going to ask you to look through my list of accolades for further support. I just want you all to watch what happens on Sunday night at WrestleForce. The biggest event of the year for Redemption Wrestling.
I enter a match that I'm familiar with but last time round, I wasn't able to succeed in it. In NGW I competed in my first ever Rags to Riches match. A match I have fond memories of but also, disastrous. It set me up to become a superstar in the promotion and I'm sure that with time, it would've culminated with me holding that prestigious heavyweight title that I always wanted. But time is our enemy, and I wasn't able to get the title in my possession.
But this is redemption. Redemption of those hopes and dreams that were taken away from me, diminished and destroyed. This, is something new. Redemption. And those involved in the match up, they won't have as much experience as me when it comes to the logistics of it - I've competed in it before, I know what is expected. But I also know that just because my opponents haven't competed in it, doesn't mean they won't give it everything they have in them. I know full well that I should expect a war. I do expect a war, nothing less."
As the seminar reached it's end, Mark grew with confidence. His social anxiety disappearing every time he talked about wrestling. Wrestling was his cure to near enough every single problem in his life.
He had become, particularly in recent years - mister Wrestling.
"But this match is also about luck. You can't choose to pick up the best case, it's just something that happens. You can pick up the rags or the riches, it's not in our fate but the universes. Has the universe been on my side? Hell no."
Laughs ensue as Mark paused, chuckling to himself.
"But there's been in a change in the tide. As of late, a lot of things are beginning to go my way. And I believe, that with a little luck - I could be walking out of that match with the most valuable prize up for grabs."
