“And just like that, you’re one step closer to Riches!”
“Don’t you mean Rags to Riches, Rosalyn?”
“I meant what I said, Xar.”
This time, the positioning of the phone on the tripod was focused on both Xaria Karloff and Rosalyn Fernandes. They were both dressed casually, but Xaria’s sunflower summer dress with matching sunflower shoes was traditional for her sense of fashion. There was a lovely view of Montreal in the evening behind them and the sun was just beginning to set.
“I’m confident in your ability to win, Xaria. That’s why I said it the way I did -- Riches. John Blade and Alicia Hixx can talk shit all they want, but they lost fair and square. You and Martin are a force to be reckoned with. I hope everyone participating in Rags to Riches III is well aware of this.”
Rosalyn has always been a young woman of great confidence. After all, she was the daughter of Jack Darling and Chelsea Pryce. With her hands in her denim jacket pockets, she grinned. A gentle smile crossed Xaria’s face as she crossed her legs and folded her hands on her lap.
“I appreciate your confidence in me, Rosalyn, but you’re well aware that I’m not the kind of person to jump to conclusions. When the time comes to perform on WrestleForce, I’ll be ready. Until then, let’s focus on tonight, oui?”
Rosalyn smirked a little and nodded.
“Alright, let’s do that. On tonight’s Glory, you’re set to face off against the challenger for Matthew Shields’ Heavyweight Championship at WrestleForce, Yujiro Fujiwara. Unlike John and Alicia, Yujiro’s no pushover. He’s a former two-time UWA World Champion and he’s fought his way to become the challenger he is now.”
Xaria nodded in agreement and straightened herself on the couch.
“Of course. I commend Monsieur Yujiro for being a true and honest challenger for a title, especially the most prestigious one Redemption Wrestling has to offer. He and I are among the few who represent honor and respect in this industry. Truthfully, I wish there were more of us in this beloved sport. There are too many rude, arrogant, and inconsiderate wrestlers in the current and future generations.”
“Tell me about it. Some of these punks are newbies who don’t know the difference between a flip-over DDT and a float-over DDT!”
“Monsieur Murdock taught you the difference.”
“Damn right he did.”
Xaria giggled softly before she cleared her throat.
“I can tell Monsieur Yujiro is a hard worker. He’s a third-generation professional wrestler after his grandfather and father before him. His love and passion for wrestling are highly admirable. If people saw the performance between Shields and The Great Manabu, they know how clever he is. Remember, he once wrestled under the name Manabu Fujiwara. I’m surprised Shields didn’t realize the comparison.”
Rosalyn couldn’t help but laugh. She’s done a little research and Xaria was right. Now that she thought about it, it was very clever. Xaria nodded and continued.
“The way his last match ended was unfortunate. In retrospect, when you’re teaming up with a person like Matthew Shields, it’s to be expected. I’ve been that position before.”
“Yeah, you teamed up with my father once… It was a really bad night.”
“Oui. Regardless, it taught me a valuable lesson. I’m certain it’s done the same for Yujiro. This match is very important to the both of us. Victory and defeat are especially crucial before a super show. For me, victory means defeating the challenger for the Heavyweight Championship. It would strengthen my momentum going into Rags and Riches. For Yujiro, victory means defeating an LWA Hall of Famer. It would reinforce his purpose to dethrone Matthew Shields, take his championship, and end his golden days.”
Rosalyn pulled her hands out of her pockets and folded her arms.
“Let’s be honest, Xaria. If Fujiwara defeats you, he can easily defeat Shields again.”
Xaria shook her head a little and offered a knowing little smile.
“When a champion is defending their title, their entire demeanor changes. They sharpen their skills and prepare a better strategy. If Matthew is smart, he’s going to wisen up and fight with everything he’s got. Any less than one hundred percent and he may lose it all.”
She lightly tapped just above her right temple with a finger and uncrossed her legs.
“With all due respect, I want to defeat Monsieur Yujiro. I’ve only wrestled two matches in Redemption Wrestling so far. I don’t want to leave Montreal with a second loss on my record. As I stated earlier, this is a very important match for the both of us, but I think my motivation edges out his just a little bit. I’ve been granted a big opportunity to compete in the third-ever Rags to Riches match and I refuse to waste it. I don’t want to lose the momentum when WrestleForce is literally two weeks away. However, should I defeat Yujiro, I don’t want him to lose his fighting spirit. I want him to face Matthew with the strength and confidence to win. Whether he is victorious against me or not, I want him to understand that if he can wrestle me in what will be an amazing match, then he has what it takes to become the next Redemption Wrestling Heavyweight Champion. The sky is no longer the limit in the wrestling industry. The fact of the matter is there are no limits. The only one who can stop you is you.”
A sweet smile crossed Xaria’s face. Rosalyn was a little lost for words. She shouldn’t be surprised by the amount of respect, knowledge, and wisdom Xaria has. She watched as the Rainbow Angel turned to face the phone’s camera and nod.
“Yujiro, I hope you understand that I’m honored to face you tonight and I expect the absolute best from you. Good luck, monsieur. I'll see you soon.”
She politely bowed her head before she looked back to Rosalyn. The Artistic Genius chuckled softly and shook her head.
“Xaria, you never cease to amaze me. I don’t know how you do it.”
As she stood up from the couch and walked around behind the sight of the camera, Xaria leaned back against the couch and lulled her eyes shut.
“Humility is a wonderful virtue, Rosalyn. I only wish that everyone will comprehend that one day…”
They continued the new conversation without the audio and visual of the phone.
